The new slogan - Stay Alert....

Alert to what? Is the virus going to break into our homes?
Listen out for someone coughing then run a mile from them.

What on earth does Stay alert actually mean?

At least Stay home made sense stay alert means nothing at all or AIBU?

It's all open to interpretation, but to me, Stay Vigilant suggests staying spying on your neighbours when they're actually not doing anything wrong, complaining on Facebook about people without knowing what they were actually doing, rather than taking responsibility for yourself. Btw I don't disagree with people being reported if they are actually doing something dangerous, but the self appointment neighbourhood watches don't need any encouragement.

1forAll74 · 10/05/2020 13:08

Well.you are not staying alert right now,as whilst you are busy tapping on phones, the unseen virus,is at this moment, coming in, through your open windows and doors. You must stand guard at all times.

MorganKitten · 10/05/2020 13:14

No protect the NHS anymore then...

BeetrootRocks · 10/05/2020 13:14

I like 'we will fight it on the beaches!' (but we're not stopping international flights)

Or how about 'keep calm and carry on' and we could each be given a naff mug to keep our spirits up

Maybe 'your country needs you!' to hate on your neighbours walking the dog twice a day

Etc etc

VerticalHorizon · 10/05/2020 13:16

I'd prefer to see 'It's still here... don't relax for a moment'

'Stay alert' is an invisible enemy is awful.

JustStayHome · 10/05/2020 13:17

This "apparently"

What does STAY ALERT mean to you?
What does STAY ALERT mean to you?
Leflic · 10/05/2020 13:17

It also sows the seeds of blame: when you get Covid19 it will be because you weren't alert enough

Well it will be won’t it? You know there isn’t a cure.

The more times you go out the greater the risk.
You get too close to someone that coughs or sneezes the greater the risk.
Touching surfaces and touching your face the greater the risk.

Do what you want but “Stay Alert” to the dangers and don’t blame anyone else when you get it because you know the risks - unless you rely on others for your care obviously

VerticalHorizon · 10/05/2020 13:18

'Don't dice with death' is pretty blunt and to the point.

NotaFreeloader · 10/05/2020 13:18

Not sure what it means but in a few weeks the rise in covid illness and fatalities will point to it having been the wrong advice whereas stay home was spot on

YetAnotherSpartacus · 10/05/2020 13:20

Someone will produce a poster. The government will shelve the campaign because it does not quite work. In 70 years it will turn up in a bookshop in the North and the next thing you know everyone will be wearing it on a T-shirt.

BeetrootRocks · 10/05/2020 13:20

Oh that screenshot makes it even worse!

Stay alert by staying at home is nonsensical.

JacobReesMogadishu · 10/05/2020 13:20

Start screaming hysterically if anyone coughs? 🤷‍♀️🙈

YetAnotherSpartacus · 10/05/2020 13:20

Not sure what it means but in a few weeks the rise in covid illness and fatalities will point to it having been the wrong advice whereas stay home was spot on

Agree.

VerticalHorizon · 10/05/2020 13:21

How about 'do you feel lucky punk - well do you?'

Cos that's how this is starting to feel.

GrimmsFairytales · 10/05/2020 13:21

Do what you want but “Stay Alert” to the dangers and don’t blame anyone else when you get it because you know the risks

Would you say the same to a key worker who caught the virus whilst doing their job?

cushioncovers · 10/05/2020 13:21

To me it means be mindful of the social distancing rules and the self isolation rules if you are symptomatic . As we gradually start to venture out of our homes be vigilant about abiding by the guidelines.

VerticalHorizon · 10/05/2020 13:22

They used to say you should cough to disguise a fart...
but now we all have to fart to disguise a cough!

shinynewapple2020 · 10/05/2020 13:22

Surely it means that if your company is now reopening and you have to return to work (as will be applying to more and more people over coming weeks), you can no longer 'stay home' but you still need to be 'alert' as the virus hasn't gone away, so, stay safe, keep your two metre distance when out of the house and wear a face mask when this isn't possible.

Mcvitoes · 10/05/2020 13:23

Stay apart.

shinynewapple2020 · 10/05/2020 13:23

Oh and be aware of touching, wash hands or use hand sanitizer and don't touch your face

VerticalHorizon · 10/05/2020 13:23

'be mindful' just sounds weak (imo), when we really need to still be stressing the huge importance.
Sadly, we've already started the 'things are getting better' ball rolling

Louise91417 · 10/05/2020 13:24

Its obvious what the slogan means, yet again its another "thread heading" being used as a band wagon for the ppl of mn to jump on and point out how they, single handed, could run this country better and that they could have sorted this whole covid19 business in little under a minute out of there hectic livesHmm

Louise91417 · 10/05/2020 13:24

"Their"

CrunchyCarrot · 10/05/2020 13:25

There are some brilliant replies in this thread. Grin

If we don't have to be alert till after 7.00 p.m. tonight then I'm going to make the most of being un-alert and take a nap before I need to prop my eyelids open for the foreseeable! Virus particle at 11.00 o'clock! Scramble! Wink

outofthemoon · 10/05/2020 13:26

Have just had a phone call saying lock down is over. From someone 80 miles away who is desperate for me to visit. And i want to visit them too. But it's not yet, is it?
