to think selfish people just don't realise they're selfish

Because otherwise why would people act in a selfish way?

And yes - I am talking about loud music in the garden. Are people just oblivious to their actions and how they affect others?

Maybe they just don't give a shit?

I wonder how people become selfish.

‘If your neighbours all sides played their music at the same volume you played yours, would you be able to hear yours well? Would your garden be as nice and relaxing if four different songs were be played in competition? Of course not. So why are you the one that deserves to inflict your choice on everyone else?
Same to nameofchanges btw’

Sometimes my immediate neighbours have music on. I don’t put music on then because it would be a bit strange to have two lots of music playing at the same time.

I would be annoyed if, as others have said, they could hear it 50 metres away or it had a thudding base beat.

But I quite enjoy my neighbours playing music and the sound of children playing. I’m not really bothered about dogs either.

Fireworks on the other hand...

I think that selfish people also don't see that other people are less selfish and make compromises. They think everyone is going through life doing exactly what they want.

I think this is very true actually.

@newyearnoeu

Actually... i didn't say my dog is barking constantly. I said he's barking at stupid things at the moment. As soon as dog barks, I put him in the house and bring him back out when he's less stimulated. What I did say, is that he's getting less exercise which is making his energy levels through the roof thus getting frustrated & vocal. I actually have two other large dogs - an Irish woldhound and great dane and they aren't vocal in the slightest, so please don't tell me my GSD barking is down to lack of training. Unfortunately GSD are naturally more vocal dogs.

Also in answer to your question, if my neighbours on both sides played music to the same level as mine, yes I would hear mine fine. The reason for no headphones is because other members of my family quite enjoy listening to the radio too. To also clarify I don't have music in my garden all day, everyday, sometimes I like to sit in silence and read.

However I have seen quite a lot of threads like this and it has made me more mindful of garden activities, just incase - and worried incase I am at all disturbing anyone.

Although going by my neighbours enthusiastic invites to the VE Street party, I'm pretty sure that I am a good and well liked neighbour, not to mention our direct neighbour bringing us homemade food yesterday, so I'm sure any complaints would have surfaced by now!
