Has anyone else received notice that their child’s nursery is opening?

Received an email from DS’ nursery last week. Exact wording:

“The nursery will be reopening on the 11th of May for children who's parents are Key Workers/ Critical Workers and for those parents who are still working and have not been furloughed”

I haven’t responded and am resigned to wait and see what is announced tomorrow. Both DH and I are WFH but just about managing.
Has anyone else received similar?

We had pretty much the same thing on Friday. Nursery had been closed - even to key workers. Email on Thursday to say:

If we are able to open the nursery imminently please could you email us specifying what care you would require and when you would need the care from.

I haven't replied as I'm waiting for Sundays announcement. If older child's school is shut till September, I'm withdrawing younger child who was due to start school in Sept anyway

ChandlerIsTheBestFriend · 09/05/2020 16:47

Why would you even point out the nursery’s spelling mistake in the first place? Confused

gingergran · 09/05/2020 16:59

I am the manager of two settings and we have had no communication with regard to reopening. We would not be happy to open until we had guidance from the government about how to safely open for our children especially considering our littlest ones are only 5 months old and do not have a clue about social distancing!

I don’t think there is any chance of reopening before June and from what our parents have said, they are reluctant to send children back unless there is no alternative. I don’t think things will be anything like normal until schools go back for the new year in September.

Why would you even point out the nursery’s spelling mistake in the first place?
Presumably to prevent a load of comments about the incorrect grammar. Unfortunately the OP then invited those comments, but forgot that she had done so.
However, the OP has apologised for this in very good grace and it has added to the amusement of the thread. You have missed the boat if snarkiness.

Dahlietta · 09/05/2020 17:05

*of 😂😂

Rhayader · 09/05/2020 17:09

I’m a school governor of a primary and the head emailed on Thursday afternoon to say they have had no comms from the govt and are waiting to hear what is said on Sunday.

drspouse · 09/05/2020 17:19

My DS is in a specialist school and we were told there MAY be more children in but that this is NOT full opening of school. I think they have worked out their rota better and some children are becoming more obviously vulnerable and/or new information has come to light.

JeanfromAccounts · 09/05/2020 17:22

Just made a bit of a tit of myself there didn’t I

But you have redeemed yourself with aplomb 🙂

ChandlerIsTheBestFriend · 09/05/2020 17:34

You have missed the boat if snarkiness

I see you didn’t though Wink

To clarify- I assumed OP was captaining the boat of snarkiness herself by unnecessarily pointing out the spelling mistake. There really was no need.

Dahlietta · 09/05/2020 17:48

Oh no, I always make sure I am on time for that boat. It’s my favourite 😉.

For anyone who has a child in pre school pre lockdown, would you be sending your child back to pre school if they were term time only/only going for their benefit? I'm concerned DD will miss out if she doesn't go but I don't want to send her for no good reason. She starts school in September but had been away from the pre school since a couope weeks before lockdown as I went on mat leave and she was a bit unsettled.

mindutopia · 09/05/2020 18:04

To the pp if you’re home anyway, I’d enjoy your time home with your dc. I think nursery is great but if you don’t have to send them, why would you? I would send mine back in June, but I have a full time job and I need to get caught up on work.

Freddiefox · 09/05/2020 18:06

We received an email from our local council that said ignore any media as they had heard nothing and were waiting for an announcement from the GOV on Sunday

Ethelfleda · 09/05/2020 18:07

Thanks for allowing me to feel slightly less mortified Wink

Both DH and I are working from home and it’s tough to juggle, however - when the time eventually comes I think we will probably look at our respective deadlines at the time and make a judgement call. We will keep him home as long as we can but it’s obviously not ideal.

And I did point out the mistake in the earlier post because I thought I would get a load of corrections otherwise. Oh the irony!

I’m not normally one for policing SPAG to be honest.

Good point, that was my thinking when I I initially took her out but worried she would miss out, will just keep her at home with her younger brothers until primary starts :)

Wired4sound · 09/05/2020 18:16

My uncle works in local government and they are prepping for start of June. Also my DH has been copied in loads of governor shit emails between the LEA and the schools around how things could happen in the last couple of days.

Obviously the government decide based on scientific advice but these two bits of news really helped me. At least something is happening behind the scenes.

modgepodge · 09/05/2020 18:18

Were nurseries and private schools actually required to close though, or was it advisory? My sister said her nursery announced they were remaining open to all children’s the start - no idea if they did or not, as she withdrew her son anyway. I have heard (on here) of a couple of private schools who have stayed open to anyone who wants to go.

CaryStoppins · 09/05/2020 18:18

Schools, nurseries and childcare providers haven't been told anything by the Government yet.

At this point it's speculation.

Maybe the nursery manager has got confused - they can open to keyworkers but as yet they haven't been given a date to open for other workers.

CaryStoppins · 09/05/2020 18:19

@modgepodge yes, all settings were legally obliged to close.

NoProblem123 · 09/05/2020 18:21

This thread delivered way more than what it promised Grin

Yes some of my local schools remained open as hubs when all the nurseries closed but then ended up getting asked to stay open longer/weekends/bank hols etc, so some nurseries have reopened as hub nurseries.
Not many though and again just for key workers’ childcare.

Bubbletrouble43 · 09/05/2020 18:33

Have received an email asking for days and times to be booked for September for staffing levels. Mine doesn't seem to expect to be open before then. They are a preschool on a primary school site, don't know if that differs from private nurseries.

Cremebrule · 09/05/2020 18:48

I’d be interested to see if they staggered the ages for nursery as has been suggested for schools. I’d send my 3 year old back in a heartbeat but would be more comfortable waiting longer for my baby.

juglover2008 · 09/05/2020 20:00

It funny how many people seem to know that school will be opening in June even before any government announcements. Normally backed up with I heard it from my friends next door neighbours cousin who's a head teacher/local counciller or works for the government

Ethelfleda · 09/05/2020 20:35

I honestly don’t know what to believe any more. One minute, there seems to be really disappointing news about no return to schools or nurseries before Autumn. No returns to offices before autumn etc
And then I seem to read something more positive suggesting June.

I keep going back and forth and I think that’s what is making this so difficult. Roll on this time tomorrow when we will hopefully have more of an idea - and adjust to it accordingly. This not knowing is driving me mad.
