VE get togethers...will we see blip in CV?

ScrewBalls99 · 09/05/2020 12:08

Just wondering whether with all the street parties yesterday anyone else wondering whether we will see a blip in number of CV cases in a couple of weeks? Or do you think it has died out following lockdown so far?

OP posts:
amijustparanoidorjuststoned · 09/05/2020 16:53

Yes. There will be a small spike in cases. And then Boris will blame those that DID have street parties for the spike when he didn't specifically stop them either. In fact, I believe he almost encouraged people to celebrate VE day in this manner as part of his "herd immunity" scheme. As long as the NHS aren't overwhelmed all at once, you know...

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 09/05/2020 17:13

I expect a spike top. The street party had no social distancing whatsoever and went on for hours. None have been self isolating and there were a few main key workers but it didn’t seem to bother people. Obviously either the rules don’t apply to them or germs know it’s a bank holiday and stay away Hmm

Dotty1970 · 09/05/2020 17:19

Yep, 2 weeks time they'll be a corona increase and a bit after that deaths.

In the area I live there were hundreds out mixing closely, I kid you not.
Pricks outside partying last night, no distancing at all.
These fucking people will all be clapping the NHS on Thursday to make themselves look good or feel better? ... Ready for when THEY CAUSE THE FUCKING PRESSURE

Twats, makes me so mad.

BirdieFriendReturns · 09/05/2020 17:22

How do we explain the lack of a spike after Easter when posts here were predicting huge spikes?

MorrisZapp · 09/05/2020 17:37

Is there any evidence of a spike anywhere in the world caused by a specific event?

mencken · 09/05/2020 17:38

new infections are steady, not dropping. That's the effect of the lockdown we have and the amount of people following it. The infection is very far from 'dying out'.

BirdieFriendReturns · 09/05/2020 17:53

New infections are thought to be in part, due to increased testing.

The virus is far from over but I’m a bit sick of reading on other posts that 100,000 are in hospital with Covid19 and 1000 people a day are dying in the U.K. from Covid19.

Or that millions will DIE due to COVIDIOTS.

SaigonSaigon · 09/05/2020 17:54

Easter wasn't anything like yesterday? The country was given a hall pass for a street party yesterday and so inevitably a large proportion of people take it too far. No one on my terraced Street was staying in their front porch areas. Social distancing was non existent as the alcohol set in. Kids up and down crashing into each other on scooters. And that's my little corner of the world. Sounds exactly the same in many other places. I do expect a spike in a few weeks. I bloody hope I'm wrong. I don't want any of this. I don't want this virus around. I'm not a doom monger. I just for the life of me can't figure out why Boris didn't do his Govt statement on Thursday afternoon instead of t'row to encourage a low key VE Day.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 09/05/2020 17:57

After Easter people said oh bad public we are going to get a spike.....only we didn’t!

I’m not expecting a spike in 2 weeks

Bertucci · 09/05/2020 17:59

I hope not. I was quite surprised to see several photos on our village page of a street party in one of the lanes. Several households were all sitting together, sharing tables and having a jolly old time.

BirdieFriendReturns · 09/05/2020 18:00

Easter spike as predicted by Mumsnet:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/3871943-Will-we-be-further-locked-down-before-Easter-Yes-Or-No?pg=7

“ Easter is going to cause a spike in infections two weeks after Easter (incubation period) if not more restrictions are put in place.”

ineedaholidaynow · 09/05/2020 18:12

Why do people think others want a spike in numbers? I can’t believe how stupid some people were yesterday and for some to end up in A&E, words fail me. Why are some people so selfish? Social distanced street parties I don’t have a problem with.

I don’t want a spike. It would be great if lockdown can be eased. But even if there isn’t a spike the Government may decide that as the English public are so stupid they may have to curtail the relaxation of rules they were going to introduce, because as usual there will be people breaking the rules as they are so special and think that the rules don’t apply to them.

greenlynx · 09/05/2020 18:18

I think we will have some increase after this weekend but not a big though as there’re more parties in the countryside where people have more space in general.

BirdieFriendReturns · 09/05/2020 18:33

On other threads, people are posting that they hope people who don’t social distance getsL CV or if they get it, it will serve them right.

Including telling people their children will be in body bags soon.

I think some people want to proved right. Some people want to stay in lockdown for years.

Spied · 09/05/2020 18:45

I saw 2 groups of pensioner aged women
walking together obviously on the way to a party, waving flags and wearing their Sunday best.
There was a karaoke party going on in a neighbours garden involving at least two families in our street.
One family at the end of the street had hired a bouncy castle and all the kids and their adults were sitting in a small gazebo type set-up drinking.

If this is typical then there will be a spike. Definitely.

Meadowland · 09/05/2020 18:47

@ineedaholidaynow. Spot on.

NoraEphronsneck · 09/05/2020 19:21

Ohffs66 in RCT by any chance?

Ohffs66 · 09/05/2020 20:37

Nora yup. Seen a similar post from a friend who nurses at the POWH as well.

Shouldhavedoneitsooner · 09/05/2020 23:17

Those of you saying it’s not virulent I think I beg to differ. I work in a hospital setting but not doing medical procedures. We disinfect all computers and tables etc multiple times a day. We all wash our hands repeatedly and always as soon as we enter our area. We had at least 8 cases passed between us. It is easy to catch.

ViciousJackdaw · 09/05/2020 23:21

I certainly don't want to stay locked down for years. The sooner it is over, the better as far as I'm concerned. Which is why we need to stick to the instructions else it'll just drag on and on.

Mummyshark2019 · 09/05/2020 23:52

Elderly neighbours from different households were mixing in their front gardens yesterday. Absolutely mental.

myself2020 · 10/05/2020 05:55

There was an article a week or so ago that the weekly clap for carers does cause a spike in A&E admissions. So basically hurts the nhs.
there is also another article on social media that shows pictures from different angles. depending on angle, it looks as if social distancing is in place or not.
people have a tendency to behave like idiots, but also don’t believe pictures

DrManhattan · 10/05/2020 07:52

The virus hasn't gone away if the rules get relaxed it means there is room for you in hospital and or the economy is more important than individual lives.

HotPinkLilies · 11/05/2020 22:08

If there is a spike, then perhaps the schools won’t open on June 1st...
