At what time would you start getting pissed off?

Family down the road have been blasting dance music on their garden since about 2pm. No sign of it stopping yet, they have a fire/bbq blazing and they are getting hammered (fair enough, it's a bank holiday) but they're screeching and screaming on their back garden for us all to hear.

Their party shows no sign of stopping. AIBU to get increasingly annoyed? Or am I being a massive priss? I would have thought it's a bit late to be blasting music on your garden past 10 at night...

I wouldn't but then I'm never in bed before 3am even on work days, so....

Midsommar · 08/05/2020 22:34

I'm probably being massively over sensitive but I can hear the bass of their music in my living room. Already having trouble sleeping at the moment so this isn't helping me to relax!

I would definitely be pissed off.
Sorry. Hope it ends soon .

Theukisgreatt · 08/05/2020 22:37

Of course it's fine to be pissed off. I think 9pm is the cut off for anything loudish, but pumping music is never ok!

MarshmallowsOnToast · 08/05/2020 22:37

I'd start being really pissed off after 9pm

Midsommar · 08/05/2020 22:38

Thanks @grafittiartist but I can still hear their music and screaming. Kill me now!

CyberNan · 08/05/2020 22:38

call the police. we are not supposed to be having parties... social distancing is still in force..

Nonnymum · 08/05/2020 22:38

I would be annoyed. It's impossible to relax when there is loud music blaring out. Some people don't think about how their actions impact on others.

DOINGOURBIT · 08/05/2020 22:39

I wonder if you live in my street. I'm getting stressed and pissed off with it. Neighbours dancing together - massive party, total disrespect for people with young chidren and it's 10.40pm - this started at 2pm

ChesterDraw · 08/05/2020 22:40

I hate hearing our neighbours kids screaming past 9, but maybe I'm just an old stick in the mud. It's irritating as they're the same age as ours (under 5) but just don't seem to have a bedtime, so I'll be trying to calm ours down ready for sleep and they can't get to sleep because of the screaming and music. It annoys me because no adult seems to check them, yet they're there, they're still going now shrieking full volume and I'm knackered. But realistically what are you going to do? Knock on and complain? I wind myself up but in the end know I'll never do anything about it because I hate confrontation! I stick earplugs in and turn my bedroom tv up and try not to let it bother me after much seething.

Futureplanning · 08/05/2020 22:40

I get slightly annoyed after 9pm, then the annoyance increases the later it gets.

Midsommar · 08/05/2020 22:40

@cybernan I would call the police but without sounding like a massive judgemental arsehole the family look the type to knock ten bells out of me if they found out it was me! So I don't really want to 😔

Midsommar · 08/05/2020 22:41

@Futureplanning you sound like one of my people! I'm exactly the same.

ShakespearesSisters · 08/05/2020 22:42

I'd be pissed off too. A couple of weeks ago me and the kids camped in the garden. We picked the wrong night as a group in a house that backs on to our next door but one neighbour were having a very noisy party. Thankfully they finished at 11. I will cross my fingers it's the same for you.

Midsommar · 08/05/2020 22:42

@DOINGOURBIT sounds like we are in similar situations! Can we go and punch our neighbours please

OP posts:
AnotherEmma · 08/05/2020 22:43

I believe the general rules about antisocial noise are none between 11pm and 7am. IIRC I think it can vary by council so check your local council website. There will be a phone number for noise complaints, it'll probably be part of the environmental health team.

Toomanycats99 · 08/05/2020 22:43

It's still going in my road - I was out there earlier but I do think it's getting a bit late.......we are onto ABBA.

DOINGOURBIT · 08/05/2020 22:45

I'm getting stressed. I ought to confront them, but I'll have the entire street ganging up on me and they've been drinking.

If i call police, much the same scenario. Looks like I'll have to take headphones to bed.

Midsommar · 08/05/2020 22:46

@ChesterDraw yep, what are we gonna do? I'll dig out my earplugs tonight I think! Urgggh it's so annoying though, why can't people be more considerate

OP posts:
namechangenumber2 · 08/05/2020 22:48

Considering they started so early I'd say 9pm, unless they came to ask if it was ok to be later

AnotherEmma · 08/05/2020 22:49

Yep, it's 11pm-7am.

Theukisgreatt · 08/05/2020 22:49

If it goes past 11 I'd call the police. How will they know it was you?

AnotherEmma · 08/05/2020 22:51

FGS, classic mumsnet, "call the police" in answer to everything 🙄 Councils have specific phone numbers for OOH noise complaints, but no, let's waste police time instead.

NameChange7383 · 08/05/2020 22:52

I posted a thread earlier about street party noise and was pretty flamed.

I’m with you though OP... the mid afternoon merriment quickly turned into music blaring and various excitable screeching and I was in a bit of a state of despair!

Midsommar · 08/05/2020 22:52

@Theukisgreatt they probably wouldn't be I'm paranoid 😂
