To think I’m going to get food poisoning now?

I had southern fried chicken fillets for dinner, cooked from frozen. I have food poisoning phobia so I checked that the chicken was piping hot before serving and I am sure that it was in the oven for the right amount of time at the right temperature. The crumb coating on my chicken was soggy rather than crisp on both sides. Everyone else’s was fine. I had a few bites before realising and now am hyperventilating over the thought of getting the dreaded chicken food poisoning.

It sounds like you did everything right, you will be fine Flowers

The coating is not going to give you food poisoning, the chicken was hot, it was cooked for the appropriate length of time at the correct temperature, you will be fine.

LockdownLoppy · 08/05/2020 20:04

Relax!! The soggy coating doesn't mean it wasn't cooked just that the juices have made the coating lose it'd crispness.

TheOwlandThe · 08/05/2020 20:10

Soggy coating just means steam or juices have made it soggy

You cooked it long enougg, checked it was piping hot. You wont get food poisoning

I’m worrying that somehow that bit of chicken got defrosted and frozen again and that’s why the coating was soggy and now I’m going to get ill. I know it’s too late to worry now regardless.

Oh you poor thing. Please try not to panic. You'll be fine. It was cooked through & piping hot.

OoohTheStatsDontLie · 08/05/2020 20:18

OP it was on the outside. If it was soggy it was from steam or juices not because it wasnt hot enough to kill bacteria. The outside is always going to be hot enough to be safe.
I find sogginess is to do with the type of filling eg fish a lot of water comes out and cheap meat that they inject with water a lot of water comes out

Nottherealslimshady · 08/05/2020 20:21

Could it have been sat in a dip in the tray? Mine bends and one half is lower than the other.

So long as it was hot in the middle then you'll be fine.

Veterinari · 08/05/2020 20:32

Frozen chicken fillets are pre-cooked anyway, not raw.

You're basically just repeating them when you 'cook' them so you'll be fine

clumsyduck · 08/05/2020 20:35

You’ll be fine the putter bits sometimes go like that particularly if it has a sauce . If the middle was piping you be fine . Having also had good poisoning I’m also a nightmare with chicken haha so I get you !

clumsyduck · 08/05/2020 20:35

Putter ?! Outer!

iklboo · 08/05/2020 20:42
