Fed up with daily garden noise.

We've been on lockdown since the last week of March and every single day - with the exception of the few days when it's absolutely pelted down with rain - a neighbour has been in his garden from 8am until 7pm Monday to Sunday constantly drilling, sawing, sanding, hammering.

It is so intense that the most time I can spend in my garden is one hour before I just have to come indoors and shut the door.

He hasn't been living there long and I can understand he is taking this opportunity to get the garden sorted but the garden itself is small.

Am I being unreasonable to want to (by now) be able to sit in my garden with a book and relax without incessant noise and the smell of burnt wood and bits of wood dust floating in the air.

Meant to say, he is using electrical power tools for all this work so the air is filled with the loud eeeeeeeeeeeeeee sound all day long.

We have the same, i’m pretty sure the neighbour few doors up (I don’t know them) is working from home with woodwork as circular saw going for hours each day with hammering in between. Also dogs barking. It drives me cracker, 6 houses around us have little yappy dogs that bark nearly all day. On sunny days all the radios start, all playing different music trying to outdo each other.

You have my sympathy, I know how you feel. I go out early for an hour before the loud teenagers next door get up and start yelling at each other and making a lot of noise. I have to close my windows to block some of the racket out. I actually pray for rain some days...

People lack self awareness.

We had new neighbours last October, who promptly through a party in their garden until 2am. They also have two large dogs living in Kennels in their garden, who bark every time I open my back door. They play loud music all the time.

Threw 🙄

This is actually not allowed and you can ring the council and complain about the noise of power tools if they go over a certain decibel and go on all day, I watched a nightmare neighbour programme and this situation was on there. I feel for you, I’m sat in the garden and all I can hear you so the birds singing in the trees

Your neighbour may be using the garden space to work on projects for inside the house. That aside I'd find it irritating too if it was every day all day.

lastburritos · 08/05/2020 15:51

I'm currently surrounded by one neighbour's crap music, another with his power tools, and the others with their screaming kids (under 6 and swearing like troopers) Argh!!!

picklemewalnuts · 08/05/2020 15:53

Same here.
Even more irritating, he has a dog and so do I. Our dogs hate each other. He leaves his back door open so effectively my dog can't go out without much ado!

drspouse · 08/05/2020 15:56

If it's daytime I think it's allowed. Builders are working on the empty house behind us, the old man in it before had let it get almost derelict so they have been at it a while! We just tune it out now.

My neighbour revs up his petrol lawman mower at every god given opportunity. There isn't even much of a lawn to warrant such a machine being used. It's ridiculously loud and he spends hours on end using it. Just when I think it's all over, he revs it back up for further action. I e yet to hear it today...... yet. 😆😆😆

8 to 7 every day is excessive to say the least - I feel for you.

As someone who is massively noise sensitive (I get stressed by far, far less than this) I swear by headphones and some music or white noise. It's not ideal (and you will probably need the white noise option for drilling, etc), but I can get outside and read.

Whitenoise app is wonderful - it's worth going for the paid option as you can use other apps and listen to it at the same time.
