To be annoyed by this PayPal return issue?

Mintychoc1 · 08/05/2020 09:58

I bought something online via PayPal for $38. It came from China, and was totally not as described , so I asked for a refund. They refused so I opened a dispute with PayPal, and I have finally had a reply - I will get a full refund but I have to pay for return postage costs. I think this will be around £6.
Surely this is wrong? If they acknowledge that what they sold me was not as described (it was half the size), surely the seller should be liable for my costs?

Due to coronavirus PayPal don’t have any staff who can take phone calls, so there is nothing I can do to question this.
Does anyone else have experience of this? I’ve got till May 18th to post the parcel back, so I’m wondering about hanging on a bit in the hope PayPal get some staff back working who I can speak to.
I know it’s trivial in the grand scheme of things, but this kind of stuff really annoys me.

I would argue the point as it's not your error or you changing your mind. Can you email or live chat PayPal?

Amfeelingfline · 08/05/2020 10:03

If you’ve paid with PayPal, check the return on us option, PayPal refunds postage up to £15, you’d have to pay it first and then send them the receipt, PayPal would then refund you. See if you can activate this option against that PayPal purchase first though...I agree you shouldn’t bu if you want to return the item it might be an option

Nearlyoldenoughtowearpurple · 28/06/2020 22:53

Did you get anywhere with this ?
I have a similar issue and bought through PayPal thinking I would have some security, it seems not.
I read somewhere you could do a chargeback on your credit card if that’s what links to your PayPal

They have advisers available on chat albeit not too helpful.

champagneplanet · 28/06/2020 22:58

It wouldn't be a hair curler and you received a straightener was it? Currently in the same situation...

Euclid · 28/06/2020 22:59

I would avoid PayPal like the plague. I have never had the misfortune to use them but friends have told me that they are terrible and extremely inefficient and unhelpful to deal with.

Boreda · 28/06/2020 23:01

Try twitter, it took a few days of nagging PayPal on there with me, but it worked in the end.

I had this one!. I fought it and received a full refund and still have the crappy straighteners, refused to send them back.
Lissy50 · 28/06/2020 23:06

I had the same issue, goods sent from China, put in a complaint to PayPal, they told me to return the goods, the seller has received my parcel, PayPal have closed my dispute and I am still waiting for my refund 😬

TinyTornado · 28/06/2020 23:13

Go back to PayPal and quote the consumer rights act 2015 to them. You have a right to reject the goods. If you have to pay for return, choose the cheapest form and ask PayPal to add that to your refund.

@silkpashmina I'm glad to hear i'm not the only one to be honest. The tone of the emails from the seller are making out i'm a bit daft!

Seller suggested I sell on the straighteners to make back the money i've lost due to my 'mistake'. Hilarious....

On a serious note the promotion is deliberately misleading, i'd go as far as to say it's a con actually.

@champagneplanet
It is def a scam. I have another dispute at the moment and just escalated it, bought a gas bbq and received a black mat!. The sellers replies are hysterical. Paypal really need to look at these companies , people think they are legit when they see they can pay by Paypal.

champagneplanet · 28/06/2020 23:31

@silkpashmina You're totally right there, people definitely feel like they can trust paypal.

I'm going to be much more wary in the future, I just can't be bothered with the hassle.

Can I ask though, how did you manage to get your refund without sending? I am at the stage where the seller said I could send back at my own cost (or sell on!) so I escalated to Paypal, and now they are saying send it back, but no mention of me being reimbursed. I'm not particularly impressed with them at the moment.

silkpashmina · 29/06/2020 00:26

@champagneplanet I have sent you a PM with copy of message I sent.

flumposie · 29/06/2020 00:47

@champagneplanet @silkpashmina I have also received a hair straightener instead of a hair curler. Also asked for a refund via seller and now escalated via PayPal Angry scammers.

flumposie · 29/06/2020 07:59

@silkpashmina I've been told by paypal I have to return the item for a refund. Please could you tell me how you managed to not send the straightener back also. Thank you.

WhoWouldHaveThoughtThat · 29/06/2020 08:16

I have had a similar experience in not receiving the correct item as ordered from China. I think it may be deliberate as they know the cost of return can exceed the value of the item. (I have no idea how they manage to ship stuff from China for these low cost items Hmm) Anyway I no longer buy items that would be posted from China.

champagneplanet · 01/07/2020 10:10

@silkpashmina Thank you so much for that

@flumposie There is a growing number of bad reviews on Trustpilot regarding the company we have been dealing with (not sure if i'm allowed to name them). I think i'll send the link to paypal

Im going to be so wary in future, I will not be seduced by social media advertising videos!!

flumposie · 01/07/2020 10:31

@champagneplanet same here. Bad mistake. Clearly scammers who deal with the orders.

Chiwi · 01/07/2020 10:34

Use the online chat, but prepared to be frustrated. I eventually got my full refund but it came at the price of my sanity
