The school sent out letters last week saying that they were starting up after school clubs such as cooking, art, computer etc. DS was excited and wanted to do the cookery, I gave back the slip the following morning. Anyway, this afternoon I waited outside his classroom and DS never appeared, I asked his teacher and he said that he had gone to cookery club, and I said that I didnt realise that it had started, and he asked if I had had a letter. I said no, he said oh well that may mean he didnt get in. He went off to get the list and came back saying that the club was oversubscrived and the kids had to have names out of a hat and that DS wasnt picked. I then asked why was he in the group then and the teacher said that there must have been a mistake and would I go and get him. I had to go into the kitchen and there was DS with his 2 mates in a pinny cooking and I had to extract him. He was crying so much I had to carry him. I said to the teacher that I thoght it was very cruel to make him leave.
Thinking about going in and saying something as he was still upset this evening about it.

That was really cruel of them to do that to him. Even if just for the one off they should hvae left him where he was tonight.

DD wanted to do cookery club too. Also oversubscribed and sadly she didn't get a place this term. She has fingers crossed for after Christmas now.

Yeah well thats what I think, they shouldnt have let him join the group if he wasnt on the list. If numbers were so tight, why hadnt anyone noticed that there was one too many in the group...grrrrrr!!

The school is really unkind to treat your son that way. The same thing happened to my DS last week. The school sent us a letter offering him a place doing art. when he got there they sent him away and told him he wasnt on the list. Fortunately the school office saw sense and put him on the list and sent him back to club. He spent the whole session being sent backwards and forwards and was very upset. when I picked him up and asked how his day was he started to cry. I wnet to the school office and kicked up a stink

No YANBU but mistakes do happen and clubs do have a fixed number in them.

fireflyfairy2 · 17/09/2007 22:43

Obviously not that fixed though, when they were able to find him an apron etc... ach your poor wee fella

I hope you baked with him when you got home

I didnt, instead we ate half a packet of maryland cookies!! We do cooking quite often, we made pizza from scratch the other day.
Spoke to his teacher and he said that the children who had paid, got first place!! When I had gone to hand in the slip, the lady said that it wasnt worth paying until he had been allocated a place. That made me really angry so I went to the office and asked for him to be put on the list for the next session after christmas. I also asked if there was space in the Art group and they are going to look into it.
grrrrrr!!
