I'm definitely being unreasonable because I'm blatantly on this topic for traffic. But we could all do with some holiday vibes, so I'll let myself off!

Please please share with me your best ever holidays!

Browsing exotic places online is the only thing keeping me sane (that and sewing awful clothes) at the moment so I'd love further inspiration

Holiday village manar in Tunisia. Is a first choice holiday and we had an amazing time. Was supposed to be going back next week! But obviously that’s now cancelled. We have rearranged for next year.

fedup2017 · 07/05/2020 16:10

Haha I'm sewing unsuccessful clothes too!

Best holiday was probably India and the golden triangle last October. Took our children ( aged 5-15) and did our own tour with a driver. Saw the Taj Mahal. Jaipur was great. The food fabulous. LOVED IT. So glad we got a chance to do it before all this shit kicked off.

A very close second was driving to Bavaria and camping near neuschwanstein castle- beautiful. Camped by a lake, got caught in a storm our tent tried to blow away and we ended up lying on it to save our belongings whilst the storm passed with some lovely German middle aged men in Speedos. The children watched laughed and videoed it from the car. We then had to peg it over the Alps to warmer weather overnight. Had to book hotels as we travelled over the Alps on booking.com. ended up in Verona and Venice with a partially collapsed tent for a week- luckily it didn't rain again.
Sounds horrendous but was very Funny and proper spontaneous adventure.

Ooh, we liked Holiday village Manar as well - the food was gorgeous!

Best holiday pre kids: Hotel Aventura Spa Palace in Riviera Maya, Mexico. Bloody amazing, great room with personal hot tub, 6 al la carte restaurants, private beach, huge swimming pools, spa, entertainment - the whole 9 yards. Sister hotel to one in Cancun and an eco hotel, both of which you could go to for 48 hours without charge. It’s a Hard Rock Hotel now but I’d still love to go back.

Post kids: Jungle Aqua Park in Hurghada, Egypt. Huge rooms, pools outside the door, water park, 7 restaurants, 5 bars, lovely grounds and superb staff. A little worn out now, but was brilliant when DD was 8/9/10

Special mention: Jaz Saraya Splash in Makadi Bay, Hurghada. Lovely rooms, good food, lots to do, brill animation team. Perfect location for beach, water park or lazing by the pool, plus it’s a village type area so walking out and about is safe and interesting. Excellent for us with a teen.

Most recently a trip to Africa, part of it was spent climbing Kilimanjaro which was both exhausting and exhilarating. It was such a n achievement and something my DP and I have always wanted to do.

I tend to enjoy active holidays. Another was a cycling trip in Northern Italy. I’ve never laughed so much on a trip and whilst there were times it was a slog I loved every second.

Fantasmic143 · 07/05/2020 16:18

Tour of LA (including Disneyland!) and San Francisco last Christmas and NY with DH, DD (21) and DS (18). The kids were SUCH great company and the drive up the Pacific Coast Highway and back was amazing. We particularly loved SF and are planning a return trip without the kids to go to the National Parks close by as soon as we can!

TeenPlusTwenties · 07/05/2020 16:20

Family holiday Safari in South Africa.
In and out of Jo'burg, malaria free zone. 8 days safari with 2 days in Sun City at the start and the end.
Very out of our usual holidays. Loved it.

thismeansnothing · 07/05/2020 16:20

Pre kids - Cuba. Stopped in the nacional in Havana then varadero for the rest of the trip. Varadero hotel was average, we did get a nice bungalow away from the main building but it was just a place to rest our head. Amazing beeches and rum and rum and rum.

Post kids - viva menorca in cala n bosch was amazing. Best all inclusive I've ever stopped at.

Mauhea · 07/05/2020 16:21

I'm fairly new to travelling and have only been to Amsterdam and Japan (natural progression). Everything about Japan was really truly stunning however my favourite holiday was during Glastonbury's last fallow year. Myself and 10 friends plus 2 babies rented a big cottage in Devon for a long weekend and had a grand time. It had a big garden, BBQ, pool table and indoor swimming pool on site with beaches a short drive away. The weather was stunning it was just jolly nice! Definitely looking forward to another weekend like that sometime.

RoryGilmoree · 07/05/2020 16:21

California was our best holiday as teenagers. Vegas, LA, Sam fran, Yosemite, Pacific highway, San Diego - there's SO much to do and see.

Seychelles was the most beautiful - the Caribbean is also lovely though.

Japan for the hustle and bustle of the cities contrasting with peaceful mt fiji

Lake Como, Switzerland and the south of France my favourite in Europe.

MummaGiles · 07/05/2020 16:23

Family holiday: Holiday Village Cyprus. We were due to go to another holiday village in a few weeks, but it’s been cancelled.

Pre-kids: Pacific coast of Mexico, Puerto Vallarta. And Lagkawi in Malaysia. Oh! And two weeks in Vancouver/British Columbia!

Toilenstripes · 07/05/2020 16:25

A Nile cruise on our honeymoon. It was incredible to visit the pyramids, Valley of the Kings, Abu Simbal.....we could hardly believe we were there.

SerenDippitty · 07/05/2020 16:28

South America including Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Rio and Iguazu Falls.

Lightsabre · 07/05/2020 16:29

We've been lucky enough to travel all over the world but my personal favourite place is also the South of France. Wonderful food and wines, beautiful beaches, thousands of mediaeval villages, churches and castles and some gorgeous hotels/hotels.

A bit off the beaten track but we also had a great holiday to Jordan with ds when he was about 7 - visited Petra which he loved, bathed in the Dead Sea covered in mud and had a lovely beach side bit in a cheap 5 star in Aqaba (Kempinski). Amazing food and culture.

OllyBJolly · 07/05/2020 16:31

Thailand. I wasn't that excited about going. Best holiday ever.

So much to see, beautiful countryside. Food was exceptional- never had a meal that was ever less than superb. Amazing hospitality. People so respectful of each other.

Spent a week in the most fabulous hotel on a private island with an eternity pool outside the door overlooking the Bay of Thailand.

Wonderful holiday.

emmetgirl · 07/05/2020 16:32

Canada and Alaska last year.
Went to Banff and Lake Louise then 2 days gold leaf on the Rocky Mountaineer train followed by a couple of nights in Vancouver. Then we did a 7 night cruise up to Alaska. We saw bears in Canada and in Alaska we saw Orca, humpback whales. It's was the most incredible 3 weeks and i loved every minute of it.

winterinmadeira · 07/05/2020 16:33

Australia last year with my sister and the visit to the Twelve Apostles and the Great Ocean Road....followed by Jersey the year before. I had never been and loved it.

Pre kids - Africa - my parents took me and exh (then fiancé) and we had so many amazing experiences - microlight over the falls in Zambia, blue train overnight, safari in private lodges on the way river at lion sands resort, Cape Town- was all amazing.

Post kids - always Disneyworld for me - just such an easy holiday with children and my happy place

AgeLikeWine · 07/05/2020 16:41

South Africa. We did Cape Town & toured the wine lands, then drove down to Hermanus for whale watching. We then flew to Jo’burg and drove over the Highveldt up to Mpumalanga and spent several days watching big scary animals in the Kruger park. The final part of the holiday was a wonderful couple of days in Swaziland.

@emmetgirl That sounds fantastic, and right up my street. I might have to look into doing something very similar...

chickensaresafehere · 07/05/2020 16:41

One of the best was me,dh & dd2 (she has a disability) in Key West,Florida about 6 years ago (she was 7).
We rented a little cottage down a quiet lane,it had a gorgeous secluded pool. We hired bikes & dd rode behind dh in a trailer.
It was really chilled,we rode everywhere, ate delicious peel & eat shrimp & drank margaritas & spent long afternoons relaxing in the pool.
Dd was just happy being with us & going along for the ride.
Her disability has become harder as she's got older. So I look back at that holiday with great affection.

ellanwood · 07/05/2020 16:41

Japan in cherry blossom time. Everything from bullet trains and robot hotel staff to medieval golden shrines and temples, hot springs, baby monkeys, amazing food, clean, safe, polite cities, stunning parks and gardens, gorgeous fashion and art, cool cafes, walks among the rice paddies and bamboo groves. It's the best of the old world and the new. I'd love to go back.

JessicaDay · 07/05/2020 16:43

We flew to Madrid, stayed there for a week, then drove to Bilbao, stayed there for a week, visited the Peace Park at Guernika, then drove back to Madrid for another week. So many art galleries!

Nottherealslimshady · 07/05/2020 16:44

Tanzania. Everyone is lovely, it's a stunning country. Felt more at home there than I ever have in my home country. Coming back was painful. We saw incredible landscapes and animals, stayed in the most wonderful places.

Tfoot75 · 07/05/2020 16:45

We love Florida, would go every year if we could.

EnidAlexandraRollins · 07/05/2020 16:48

Safari in South Africa followed by Cape Town. Out of this world.

Vietnam - particularly the 5 days we spent in the Six Senses Con Dao but it was ALL astonishingly good. Fabulous country.

My most unexpected trip that I have ever enjoyed was visiting Graceland. We really went just to tick a box on a Deep South road trip and it was absolutely epic. There was just something about it I totally loved.
