I'm definitely being unreasonable because I'm blatantly on this topic for traffic. But we could all do with some holiday vibes, so I'll let myself off!

Please please share with me your best ever holidays!

Browsing exotic places online is the only thing keeping me sane (that and sewing awful clothes) at the moment so I'd love further inspiration

California road trip the other year. We also really loved the Deep South.

Was meant to be going from NYC to Chicago this year.

Nosuchluck · 07/05/2020 17:00

Disney cruise around the med (very un mumsnetty) and a family holiday to Cape Town.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 07/05/2020 17:12

Pre DD: driving round Germany drinking obscure wines and climbing obscure routes on the Rheinpfalz sandstone pillars.
With DD: A cottage in Sennen with mil and pil. Swimming, climbing, the Minack, the joy of chasing a toddler across brilliant white sand.
Without DD: Iceland, and spending £000s on memories.

Apirateslifeforme · 07/05/2020 17:22

Disneyworld =) we have gone multiple times, halloween was my favourite time. We did Mickeys not so scary Halloween party, and it was amazing.

helpfulperson · 07/05/2020 17:24

Bernese Oberland in Switzerland. I try and manage a trip at least every couple of years. The mountains are amazing and they have cable cars to the top of them!

Mirrorxx · 07/05/2020 17:25

Definitely safari. We first went to South Africa and have been addicted since. The best aaa probably Zambia.

Keewee27 · 07/05/2020 17:26

Not technically a holiday for me as it was to my home country but I've lived in the UK now for almost 18 years so visiting home having not been there for 10 years was a holiday.

DH and I took DS1 and DS2 to visit my parents in New Zealand. We had an amazing time and I enjoyed showing the boys and DH some wonderful places I used to go as a child. DH and I also got married while we were there so it made it even more special.

I biased but it is a lovely country and I'd love to live there again in the not too distant future. The boys have said so many times that they want to go back there again so it must have been good!
We also enjoyed Center Parcs a few years back.

Pre kids: best holidays in Europe were Austria (Salzburg especially) and the Cinque Terra in Italy.
I also loved Boston and the small towns around it as well as New York.

sunflowery · 07/05/2020 17:33

I’ve also been fawning over travel photos on Pinterest, wishing I was somewhere else.

Florida is definitely in my top 5. I know people love to hate the whole Disney scene but me and my DH went with some friends a few years ago (all in our twenties) and had such a laugh. Felt like we just forgot all our troubles and had two weeks of pure fun, I still smile about going on some of those rides. We rented a big villa with a pool and it would be theme parks during the day and beers in the hot tub in the evening. Would kill to be back!

Interrailing with my friends when I was a student around Europe. Went to Paris, Brussels, Prague, Croatia, Berlin, Amsterdam and more!

Other faves - Kalkan in Turkey, Riviera Maya and south of France.

Barbados I took my children 3yrs ago at easyer got an amazing deal they were 2yrs and 6yrs we went for a wk everyone told me I was nuts at their ages 8.5hr flight time difference and only a week. Well than were v wrong they were a dream on the flight (apart from a v random allergic reaction for 2yr old luckily I am children nurse!), yes first day time difference was hard but whacked them into local time next morning all up at 7am local time enjoyed best part of day, stayed in a small hotel had such fun just chilling altogether. 2yr old had an afternoon nap we rested and played with 5yr old. Just generally spent time together in a gorgeous country in a nice hotel (not massively luxurious stayed in better but amazing service).

We have since found RAK ( a UAE an hr or so from Dubai) and were working our way through the hotels there and would def recommend but that Barbados holiday always sticks in my mind as being amazing

The first holiday I took with my boyfriend (now DH) which was just a 4 day dirty weekend in the Peak District

Was perfect in every way

Skigal86 · 07/05/2020 18:02

Three years ago we went to India (golden triangle) and and a three day stopover in Muscat on the way home. India was incredible, we saw the Taj Mahal, the monkey temple in Jaipur, mum and baby tigers in Rathambore and so much more, it was the best two weeks ever. The stop over in Muscat on the way back was the perfect relaxation after the chaos and intensity of India! So much so that we are (fingers crossed) going back to Muscat for the third time at the end of the year!

altiara · 07/05/2020 18:05

South Africa - Cape Town, then travelling down the garden route (plus wine lands, caves) so much to do that the kids enjoyed eg swimming with seals, waking with elephants, tubing, zip lines, then onto safari.

Greenlorry · 07/05/2020 18:18

I flew Long haul for the first time alone when my DS was 4. We stayed at Grand Memories in Dominican Republic (Punta Cana) the people were lovely so warm and friendly. The Canadians are party people and also great people. It was paradise for the whole 14 nights we stayed. The beach was spotless, we did 2 trips and were looked after, we experienced seeing the poverty in DR and I went home feeling thankful for my life.

@fedup2017 (and anyone else who went to India) how did you find the poverty and the culture difference towards women?
I'd love to go to India but I've heard some horror stories about men with no boundaries towards white women and, of course, the huge, huge poverty issue.

Camping, Isle of Skye in the middle of summer. We visited Lewis and Harris too. It is like a different world up there. It was light until gone 11 at night and again by 3am or before. It was never cold at night because the sun didn’t really go down long enough for it to get chilly. Went with DH, the DDs and our two dogs. It was idyllic. I’ve had much fancier holidays abroad but they’ve never matched that in terms of how free and relaxed it felt and how happy we were. I wanted to move there!

Lemon27 · 07/05/2020 18:35

Northern Italy Smile we flew to Pisa and spent just over 2 weeks and visited Cinque Terre (did the treks between the 5 towns - amazing views), Florence, Bologna, Lake Garda and Milan. Just the 2 of us (pre babies!!) and had the most fantastic time walking and exploring, and most importantly eating alllll the food and drinking allll the wine! It was May so the weather was beautiful but not too hot.

We are gonna go back for a big wedding anniversary I think (fingers crossed) x

OpenWheelRace · 07/05/2020 18:37

@exLtEveDallas

The Adventura hotel in Mexico - you say you went before children... it looks very child orientated? Was it still enjoyable as an adult.
Just been looking at it with DP and it looks FAB but there were many many many children in those photos, a screamy kids holiday is not for us. (Until we have our own screamy kids I guess!)

Hmmm the Seychelles/New Zealand/West Coast US road trip are the top 3.
Mauritius, La Reunion, Hawaii also amazing

Bertie30 · 07/05/2020 18:48

Sydney. Loved it.

EmbarrassedUser · 07/05/2020 19:39

Iceland was so fabulous. Everything there was gorgeous! We rode snow buggies on a glacier, walked up smoky valley, saw geysers, went to the world famous willy museum, blue lagoon and plenty more. I’d go back in a heartbeat.

EmbarrassedUser · 07/05/2020 19:40

@CleverQuacks We Went there. Fab place with great food. Second only to Iceland but top for all inclusive.

Ipadipod · 07/05/2020 19:42

As a child a holiday on a working farm was amazing, we helped the farmer with the sheep dipping, milking the cows , we climbed haystacks , collected eggs and played with the kittens. We spent the week filthy dirty but blissfully happy.

ZaraW · 07/05/2020 19:52

Spent a summer during uni holidays in Israel and Egypt. Worked on a kibbutz and spent free time at the beach and weekends in Tel Aviv. After the kibbutz spent two weeks in Jerusalem and then travelled down to Sinai and spent a couple of weeks in a cheap beach hut. We had a shoe string budget but had an amazing time.
