Daughter ( early 20's) just had diagnosis of CFS/ fibromyalgia.
Any advice from people? . Duration of syndrome? Advice on future occupations? She is a clever girl ( and passes A levels) and was doing acting in amateur company and has worked part time in retail. She has suffered with symptoms for nearly 2 yrs.
Thank you

Hi OP

I agree some supplements as they wont hurt. Acupuncture helps me with my symptoms, you have to look around to find a decent practitioner though (anyone who pressurises you to make weekly appointments is to be avoided), it helps me get a much deeper sleep and feel a bit more refreshed when I wake up rather than the classic restless sleep of ME. I dont think it particularly helps the cause of it though.

I think with ME the key thing is to stop before you do too much, which is hard because you only know you've done too much when you feel awful the next day! Find a level of activity that she feels ok with (even if its nothing) and build it up gradually. Really gradually. Like 10 min extra a day, level for 3 days, then 10 min extra. And even when she is feeling well again she will need to build rest periods into her day to recharge. Which is hard to do when you feel fine but is the key to avoiding future relapses

Also for me when my symptoms are bad, getting out in the fresh air and nature really helps. Even if I'm driven somewhere and just sit somewhere outside with no cars around. I dont know if it's a mental thing or I'm over sensitive to pollution or something but it really helps

@Flightsoffancy Yes, it's 'The FibroManual: A Complete Fibromyalgia Treatment Guide for You-and Your Doctor' by Dr. Ginevra Liptan. Smile
