To think that unlike Adele, lots of us are getting bigger after lockdown?

Having been reading about Adele's amazing weight loss, I feel as though I've performed a similar feat in reverse! I'm normally slim and healthy, I haven't been overeating that much during lockdown, so assume that it's just that I'm less active. I weighed myself this morning and have put on over half a stone! Speaking to friends, quite a few seem to have the same issue. AIBU to think that lots of people are gaining weight during lockdown? Or am I in denial and others are getting healthier, like Adele?

None of know the reasons for Adele's weight loss. She may not have intended for this to happen.

You are worth more than the number you see on the scales,

TinRoofRusty wall trees with fairy lights? Sounds gorgeous!

I’ve been skipping meals so that I can pig out on junk food Blush. It’s really not a good health choice but I’ve always been fairly slim and this is what I do when I want to pig out Confused

Fullmoonagain · 07/05/2020 21:26

She looks great in the aesthetically acceptable californian way. I am not sure she is a happy soul. I don't think she diets in the traditional way Wink

sixthtimelucky · 07/05/2020 21:31

I am fat. I wasn't in early March. I have exercised a fair amount, but drank and eaten like it's Christmas day. But I am 50 and Adele is early 30s so I shall let her have this one.

JoeExoticsEyebrowRing · 07/05/2020 21:37

Can't believe that people think she looks 'skinny' and 'scrawny' what the fuck is wrong with you?! She looks curvy and healthy and beautiful.

CafetiereCoffee · 07/05/2020 22:31

Curvy? Hmm

Fullmoonagain · 07/05/2020 23:02

She is no longer curveyHmm she is most definitely slim by anyones standards

HollySideEyes · 08/05/2020 04:06

Yes she's curvy - in the original sense of the word : you can see in the photos she's very hourglassy shaped, that was hidden before under the extra weight.

She looks great.

Imstillskanking · 08/05/2020 04:19

Yes she's curvy - in the original sense of the word

Yes, you're absolutely right. The word curvy seems to evolved into a PC term for fat. It used to just mean that a woman had an hourglass figure. You can be VERY slim and still be curvy.

Josette77 · 08/05/2020 04:49

She looks amazing and is definitely curvy. I don't know how anyone thinks she's scrawny? She is thin but not emaciated.

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 08/05/2020 05:05

I don't own any scales but don't think I've changed weight. I'm eating the same and exercising the same as before (once a day).

transformandriseup · 08/05/2020 05:31

I've been running around my garden to maintain my pre-CV weight.

ChasingRainbows19 · 08/05/2020 06:14

Adele has been gradually losing weight for ages. People probably didn't notice early on. She's very slim now but she was before lockdown.

I'm still working and still eating my normal reasonably healthy food with odd treats. I think because I've had a normal routine with work I've not attacked the fridge. I exercise at home anyway and we always have regular walks anyway. If anything I feel I've lost a little from my clothes.

Shedtheload · 08/05/2020 06:23

I actually hope she has had a gastric bypass (and I suspect she has) because her chances of keeping the weight off are much higher than if it was achieved through diet and exercise.

Once you’re very overweight for a very long time (Adele was obese for all of her adult life and probably during her teens too), it’s very very rare to just suddenly lose masses of weight when you haven’t been able to do so before. And remember that she has lost weight before and then regained it, so it’s not like she never dieted before and has just suddenly decided to do so. When she lost weight in the past, it was nothing like this drastic. There’s nothing wrong with having obesity surgery so if she has had it she’s likely to be able to keep it off.

Shedtheload · 08/05/2020 06:26

Also, she hasn’t been gradually losing weight for ages. The photos last year came pretty much out of the blue and she had lost a drastic amount.

It’s nice to romanticise that an obese person can just wake up one day and find the willpower to become slim but the scientific research suggests that where you’re long term obese, there’s a less than 1% chance of that happening naturally, which is why the judgement levelled at those who have had surgery is really unwarranted.

PoloNeckKnickers · 08/05/2020 06:33

I lost 7 st 4lb just before lockdown and during lockdown I've lost a further stone to reach my target weight. I've just been following WW No Count and walking every day.

KatherineJaneway · 08/05/2020 06:35

Iv exercised and eaten less during lockdown 🤷🏼‍♀️

Bully for you Hmm

Futurenostalgia · 08/05/2020 06:44

She does look drastically different. I wouldn’t have recognised her. She was overweight as a teenager too so she has undergone a radical lifestyle change if she has lost it without a gastric band.

Shedtheload · 08/05/2020 07:28

Yes it’s the fact that Adele has been big since being a teenager that makes it less likely it isn’t assisted because she’s made attempts in the past that haven’t worked, so i don’t think she was ‘happy fat’ (very few are) and one day decided she wanted to be a size 8. She was clearly unhappy with her weight for a long time. It could be natural of course but if it is, it’s much less likely that she will keep it off. Celebrities who have lost large amounts including Josie Gibson, Scarlett Moffat and Pauline Quirke have almost alway regained it because it’s extremely difficult to go from a long time at a large size to being a small size permanently. Gastric bypasses aren’t a cop-out or the easy way out. For most obese people they are the only thing that really works long-term.

And while she looks good in the picture, it’s clearly not her natural size (to mean the size her body naturally returns to) and her body will be fighting her all the way not to be that size.

Doingitaloneandproud · 08/05/2020 07:38

Yes she's curvy - in the original sense of the word

Definitely! She's totally got the hourglass figure, that is curvy! I agree with the poster who said the term curvy has evolved into a PC term for fat; I know lots of curvy women who are size 8-10
Adele looks fantastic! However she lost the weight she should be proud as it can't have been easy

JoeExoticsEyebrowRing · 08/05/2020 10:06

Curvy?

Yes curvy - which as others is not supposed to be a more polite synonym for 'fat' which is what it has become.

People really have lost sight of what a healthy human body should look like haven't they? She isn't even that thin - she still has quite wide hips really, and looks curvy as in her body.... Curves! She looks awesome!

Xenia · 08/05/2020 10:11

Let us call a spade a spade. Before she was fat and now she is normal healthy weight (I am assuming from the photo although I would need her height and current weight to be sure)...Ah 5 foot 8 apparently. and now found the supposed weight 55 kg or 8 stone 6 _ probably needs to be be 8 stone 10 to be healthy weight but 4 pounds under is no big deal and probably the press have got it wrong anyway....

Drivingdownthe101 · 08/05/2020 10:16

She certainly doesn’t look ‘scrawny’. She looks healthy.
