to think I might be ok to take my son to b&q tomorrow?

My shower has broken and I need a new one. They're not cheap and I'm using my credit card to buy one but also have a £100 b&q voucher. It's a necessity as I am a single mum to an 18 month old and it's driving me a bit mad having to have baths. They take so long with our shit water pressure. I was just going to nip in, take a look at a couple and pick one. Problem is, they seem to have outright banned under 16s from their store. AIBU to think an 18 month old in a back carrier will be ok?

no you will be fine, they have relaxed the initial no under 16's with one parent rule

browzingss · 06/05/2020 21:17

Call the store ahead of time to clarify

ShambalaHambala · 06/05/2020 21:18

Thanks Dhalia, I didn't realise this as it just says no under 16s on their site

Thedogscollar · 06/05/2020 21:18

I'm sure that will be ok. It's not as if he can run around the shop. Hope you get something suitable.

ShambalaHambala · 06/05/2020 21:19

Thanks @thedogscollar - fingers crossed

Hi we’re still not allowing under 16’s into our store, though you can order online or for click and collect and we can bring it to the door for you.

WorraLiberty · 06/05/2020 21:28

Surely you need to ring the store?

Imagine queuing up for ages only to be turned away at the door.

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 06/05/2020 21:29

My local store isnt letting people in. They meet up at the door, you tell them what you need and they go and get it and you pay by card outside. I doubt they'll let you and your son in to browse showers.

Bluntness100 · 06/05/2020 21:31

Wait till next week op, it’s not long. Odds are it will be fine then.

DenimDrift · 06/05/2020 21:31

@Bbang then i'm afraid your store has got it wrong!
stores were told to let a parent with child in! initially it was to be no under 16's but that had to be changed due to bad press and a feeling it was discriminatory!

please dont be put off op....a duty manager can be called if needed and you can go in for your shower

species5618 · 06/05/2020 21:34

Be prepared for the queues though. Ours seem to have one-one policy and bearing in mind how long I can browse the gardening section ......

DenimDrift · 06/05/2020 21:34

can you name the store if not too outing?

and no store was taking orders outside and letting people pay by card in the car park @nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut I think you are confusing that with the contactless click and collect which was happening previously. most, if not all, stores will be open now

bridgetreilly · 06/05/2020 21:36

Yes most B&Q stores are now open normally, and yes you can have 2 people go in from a household. I think if you're carrying your son there won't be any problem at all.

ShambalaHambala · 06/05/2020 21:37

I'm not just browsing showers. My shower broke and I can't keep having baths every day. It's not cheap and takes forever to run. They're expensive and I would quite like to look at one before I unpack it and get family member to install.

OP posts:
ShambalaHambala · 06/05/2020 21:37

I'll give them a call tomorrow :)

OP posts:
DenimDrift · 06/05/2020 21:50

phone lines have only just reopened so you may not get your call answered

the store will let you in they have specifically been told to op.......tell them to check their email

Ithinkthis · 06/05/2020 21:50

I take it there’s no one at home that can watch the baby, you say family member will install it - so there coming from outside your house, not criticising as a shower is essential and I for sure would need someone to help me.
Could the pick the shower up on your guidance on the way or come over earlier and watch the baby whilst you go and choose the shower and bring it home for them to install

ShambalaHambala · 06/05/2020 21:52

It's my cousin who is a plumber. He is going to come in, install the shower, disinfect it and then leave. We are going to go for a walk whilst he does it

DH was in 2 B&Qs last week. Almost normal service other than the queuing & social distancing. People with small kids were in there too, 1 in a buggy other in a car seat.

looselegs · 06/05/2020 22:09

I went with hubby a week last Sunday and they let us both in,no problem

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 06/05/2020 22:16

@DenimDrift I can assure you, they were. I used to work there and now work a few doors down. I have the pleasure of watching them in and out with card machines and bringing out goods while I manage the never fucking ending queues.

And going in to look at a few is still browsing, I'm just suggesting the OP look online first rather than queue up and then get turned away. But hey, what do I know? I only spend 3 hours a day 5 days a week on door duty, watching them.

SavageBeauty73 · 06/05/2020 22:17

I went there today. Says no under 16's

LesleysChestnutBob · 06/05/2020 22:20

I went to b&q today and I had to queue outside but once inside there was no issue at all. Just go OP with your son in his carrier. I don't think I'd even bother ringing ahead.

Kazziek · 06/05/2020 22:22

There were kids in store in my local b&q, with 1 parent

Bluntness100 · 06/05/2020 22:22

I went with hubby a week last Sunday and they let us both in,no problem

Are either you or your husband under 16? Confused
