Not an AIBU sorry but posting for traffic .
Never been bitten before but I was in the garden and suddenly felt what felt like a sting actually, I was wearing leggings so not sure how something could have bitten me through them but equally does it look like a sting ? I didn’t check straight away, so I didn’t see anything immediately. It was an hour later that I just checked.
I’m pregnant so worrying over little things so I’m worried it’s infected but there’s no puss and I can’t see where the source of the redness begins ? I have drawn round it though to see if it spreads. No other symptoms , no fever etc . The little thing near my ankle that looks like a bite is actually just a spot that I got the other day.

Thank you

My husband reacts like that to horse flies.

JemimaShore · 06/05/2020 21:04

Looks painful. Is it the red dot that's just off-centre in the larger red area?

That is how my wasp sting looked. I was also stung through leggings. Red spot, and massive surrounding redness.

GaaaaarlicBread · 06/05/2020 21:04

@RonObvious I was thinking it could have been that but can they get you through leggings ?? It doesn’t look infected does it ?

A horse fly could bite through clothing but usually horse fly bites are much worse than this!! Do you live in an area that gets horse flies?

When I was pregnant I was bitten more than usual (or my body reacted worse than usual)...

GaaaaarlicBread · 06/05/2020 21:06

@JemimaShore also did think it was a wasp sting and I am mildly allergic to them (last time I got stung I was about 14 and on my face so it didn’t present different) but I did think a sting if not a horse fly bite . Yes it’s that tiny bit off centre . Very sore!

Horse flies can bite through leggings - tenacious buggers. I don't know about being infected - as I say, my husband reacts exactly the same way. He gets a very red and swollen calf (always seems to be the calf!).

JemimaShore · 06/05/2020 21:09

OP, yes, my wasp sting was exactly like that, the surrounding area went really red, and I wondered whether I was slightly allergic to them too. I've only been stung that one time. Hate wasps!

It just went away by itself though - I doubt it's infected. Have you got something you can dab on it? Sting relief or TCP.

GaaaaarlicBread · 06/05/2020 21:12

Thank you !
@jemima I’ve currently got a aloe ice pack on. Been rummaging for creams and can’t find anything ! I definitely need to sort out medicine draw out before baby gets here as we are useless ! Wasps are awful we get so many here!!

Keep a very close eye on the redness in case you develop cellulitis. I’m a magnet for mozzies and have had cellulitis twice from their bites —the little bastards—

Try not to scratch as that helps the bacteria get into the bite (which causes the cellulitis)

GaaaaarlicBread · 06/05/2020 21:20

Does this look better since using an ice pack ? Not sure if it’s my eyes lol

I would put antiseptic cream on it.

Notimeforaname · 06/05/2020 21:28

It's definitely calming down op. I think you're good.

GaaaaarlicBread · 06/05/2020 21:37

@Newjez only have sudocrem is that any good?
@notimeforsname thank you that’s a relief ! It’s good to know it’s not my eyes making me think it’s getting better. Always good to get a second opinion . My husband is a nurse but a bloody Chilled out one !!
