Ok 3 weeks ago my 1 cat had kittens and has been in alllllllll the time, last tuesday or so my other cat had kittens, we found them stone cold and barely alive, the other cat took on the kittens and fostered them. Yesterday morning i remember seeing her feeding all of the kittens and then she was gone......

We hadnt seen cat1 shall we say, since tuesday and basically presumed the worst had happened

Anyway a woman came knocking on the door today and said have you got 2 silver tabby cats, i said yes were they wearing collars? she said yes i said well they are mine!!!

She said well im quite happy to take them and the kittens off you as you seem like you have alot going on!

I said no i want my cats back as the kittens havent been fed! I explained that cat2 was only in yesterday and the conversation went something like this....

Me: did you lock the cats in?
Her Dp: well obviously
Me:well if you hadnt they would have come back
Her DP: oh.....

Now i MAY be being unreasonable but im pretty sure you dont lock a cat in and claim it as its run into your house? They both had collars on so obviously they belonged to someone!!!

Im so angry !!!!

Please say IANBU???

YANBU - i hae just literaly got my cat back after it was nicked by a family down the rd.

I out up signs and everything stating a £10 reward for his return. My nice nieghbour found him after he bolted from said familys house - i gave him the reward and he gave it back so now i feel a bit stupid but i got my cat back!

no one can sayeff all about how many kittens you have...i bought my mum a kitten last thursday from a woman, and both her females had litters, plus she had 4 dogs and 2 tom cats

Report
elfsmum · 17/09/2007 19:57

hang on, you have two well cared for cats who you look after, they've had litters and all the kittens are well.

you've been worried about your missing cat that's been catnapped by neighbour and you're ringing for advice on how to approach because

  1. you don't want your cat being locked in when not a house cat
  2. you don't want your cat being locked in a cat basket and potentially frightened
  3. you need your cat home to look after and feed said kittens

the RSPCA are interested in those that cause harm to animals, not those who are obviously worried about them

my friend has 5 grown cats and looks after them, number isnt usually a problem unless they are mis-treated

YANBU, what a fecking bitch of a neighbour. Report her to the RSPCA, don't worry about how many kittens you have, as long as you're going to find them loving homes they won't mind that at all. and for you and the poor kittens.

Report
time4me · 17/09/2007 20:10

This woman had no right to lock up your cat, which is your property. How dare she,she could have had a chat to you, rather than wading in like that.I hope the poor kittens are ok

She shouldnt have nicked your cat. Please get the mum done ASAP though, there are more than enough cats to go round in the shelters for unwanted animals.

Oh Charlie I know where you're coming from but I think the OP probably is aware of the enormity of the cat crisis atm, and is acting responsibly. I think saying that might be upsetting for her to read.

YANBU. Not at all.
Do we live on the same street? My neighbour used to keep my cat in her house - locked in - cos we had a cat flap so the cat could get out, and she thought I didn't care about it, because it was a cat that liked to be out all the time!
So she kept keeping it in her house, feeding it processed ham etc. The cat was really old at this time and one day she had a stroke in the night, we could tell when we got up. So DP bless him rang the vet and stayed home till the appointment. Half an hour before the appointment he thought better let cat out for a poo or whatever as we were sure she would be put down, he thought she might like one last look at the sunshine! Two hours later I get home, oh, no cat, has it been put down then?
No he said, I let her out and she hasn't come home yet. Twenty minutes later neighbour knocking on door 'oh flibberty, your cat isn't very well'. I was 7mths preg at the time and let sooooo rip at her. The cat had to suffer another night post stroke, I had to take the cat to vets the next day which is an emotional business anyway never mind when heavily pg.
The next night I told the neighbour the cat had died from kidney failure from being fed processed ham and that if she so much as looked in my baby's pram when it arrived I would call the police.
Now she's started doing it with my other cat..
Sorry to go on, but there are a lot of stupid people out there that think cats are like dogs and if its outside then it must be homeless.

Jennifer, I can appreciate what your saying also, but a very gentle reminder as they could pop out another what...25 kittens each every year? And if the owner of those cats let them get pregnant bla bla...theres your cat crisis.

glad you got your cat back
quite outrageous behaviour from your neighbor and i would collect myself and go and explain your side...this could have been horrible outcome..

on a different note of stealing cats though..i found our cat no collar at our bins on the doorstep and she followed me in and saucer of milk later let her out and found her again next day in the garden...she never left, that was that...
i sort of thought they lived where they wanted to
2 years later my neighbor a childminder tells me it was theirs, given to them by mindee family when 2nd kid came along..
my family laugh and say i stole her, i beg to differ..
btw we had her 14 years!! in the end

Oh people like that make my blood boil

We had a cat that was actually born in my lap, so was pretty special. She disappeared, and about 6 months later I saw her coming out of a house 4 doors down. They'd moved in and "adopted" our cat.

It's patently obvious that a cat is not a stray. These people conveniently don't pay insurance or vets bills- they have all the benefits of pet ownership with none of the responsibilities.

The people next door have encouraged one of our cats to go in their house. My DD is moving away in the next couple of weeks and taking him with her

My sister has two cats a short haired one and a very long haired silver tabby, both female, both have had kittens but and now neutered, both have insurance and are very very well looked after.

Long haired tabby went missing for two days and when she turned up someone had shaved her . Turns out it was my sisters nutty neighboure who said she thought it was neglected!!!! Cheeky cow,

hiya, no ive never seen her in mylife! she lives over the back of us which is an entirely different place as the roads are mapped out funny,

Well unfortunatly baby doesnt want to know the kittens but that is quite a good thing as the other one is quite attatched to them and the 3 weeks old kittens areenjoying playfully tapping them on the backside

but my main tihng is they are now HAPPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know all about the cat crisis and am going to have them spayed as soon as they stop nursing

stupid bint said they are both pregnant again, i said the ones kittens are only 5 days old ffs how woulddhe be pregnant

stupid fucking no it all bitch, im going to ring the rspca tomorrow as if i got anymore worked up i would have steam coming out of my ears!!!

Obviously not the case here but cats sometimes do decide that they want a change of home. My parents had a cat that adopted them and lived with them for 10 years - when it first started visiting we never fed it as it was obviously well-cared for, but it was determined to hang around our garage and garden. After some months it started losing weight and looking less cared for so my mum did start to feed it - we never found out who it had lived with previously and whether they'd moved away without it, dropped dead or whether it had simply refused to go back to its original home. it had a bed in our garage and was fed daily but otherwise came and went as it pleased, and eventually (as I say after about 10 years) my mother had to take it to the vet to have it put down as it got very ill.

Report
iliketosleep · 17/09/2007 21:18

aww, i understand they sometimes adopt people and homes but mine obviously hadnt. As she had her kittens in the garden and my other was probably just hungry! I really want to confront her but as my fellow ttc after m/c friends have said i shouldnt get all worked up i think she needs something doing to her though

one of my cats was stolen last year, he went missing 2 days into our holiday and my parents were feeding them. He was missing for a month and when he came back, he was very overweight and quite wary of the kids. We believe that the family up the road took him, even though they knew he was ours
