Customers in supermarket queues buying 2 items

justasking111 · 06/05/2020 14:13

After a week of emptying cupboards reluctantly went out this morning. Standing in Tesco queue, two over 70s ladies behind me. one had given the other a lift. What do you need the driver said, oh just some cheese and a newspaper. They were not switched on by social distancing either despite the clear marks on the pavement.

Now I do think if you are over 70 and determined to get out well on your head be it. But for two items, for christs sake.

AIBU I being unreasonable to think that if you go to a supermarket it is to seriously stock up not for 2 items?

Please don't assume every over 60 or 70 or whatever is a conservative voter. Some of us hate them

I’m over 60 and hate them too. Nevertheless, the Tory vote demographic is in our age group, sadly it’s a fact.

Jenny1951 · 07/05/2020 20:31

So what? They are ‘allowed’ out - there wasn’t a 8 items or more directive.

Tootletum · 07/05/2020 20:34

Hard to break the habit of a lifetime. In your case, judging, in their case, shopping for "a few bits" as my mum keeps saying.

TinRoofRusty · 07/05/2020 20:35

Point is that the Govt cares about over 70s getting sick

You're having a laugh, aren't you? Exactly HOW many in care homes have died? Oh, that's right, we don't actually fully know because the government doesn't and never has giving a flying fuck about them!

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 07/05/2020 20:35

working for a supermarket i can confirm 95 percent of the 60s and over are coming in every morning for a newspaper and other none essential items including a single lottery ticket etc

They are allowed to buy a newspaper for fucks sake!

I have no idea how you know these people are over 60s but you do realise that age group isn’t classed as vulnerable?

Mamawingingit1234 · 07/05/2020 20:38

I honestly don’t get mumsnet at times. It’s such a contrary place. If the post was “oh someone gave me a hard time because I’m clearly in the vulnerable group and I popped out with a friend who gave me a lift to get cheese and a newspaper” posters would be all over it giving the op a hard time!

cologne4711 · 07/05/2020 20:57

How do you know if someone is in the vulnerable group? They don't generally go round with stickers like "I have asthma" stuck across their forehead.

Rainbowsparkle · 07/05/2020 21:04

My husbands nan is 89. She is in relatively good health. She still goes shopping. Her justification is she survived the blitz 🤷🏻‍♀️

Neither you nor the OP know these people from Adam. How do you know they are vulnerable? How can you tell?

I've found a good site worth a look

How many posts are you going to make today advertising mums.chat?

LoveIslandVirgin · 07/05/2020 21:15

@user1490954378 sorry, didn’t realise it was online shop.

Fully empathetic with your situation. Thankfully I’m ok but have 2 kids with special needs who are ok with lockdown but DH is key worker with underlying health issues so we take every precaution going.

Greenmarmalade · 07/05/2020 21:17

What did the lockdown police used to be annoyed by before Coronavirus?

Pinkflipflop85 · 07/05/2020 21:18

The government caring about the over 70s has got to be the funniest load of bullshit I've heard on here!

victorioussponges · 07/05/2020 21:19

Bugger - I need to go out and get my mum a card tomorrow. Better write a full shopping list first Grin

People breastfeeding for longer than a random alloted amount of time.
People breastfeeding in public when the baby probably wasn’t even hungry.
Parents reading stories to their children in public, because it’s performance parenting.
People having children when they’re not totally loaded.

THEDEACON · 07/05/2020 21:37

All over 70s are NOT in the SHIELDED group! They are in the vulnerable group and can shop if they wish They shouldn't be in a car together if they don't live together and should social distance when out but what they buy or how much they buy IS NON OF YOUR BUSINESS and has nothing to do with regulations either

choc71 · 07/05/2020 21:48

We did our weekly shop today. I drove, OH went into the shop. I waited in the car. He failed to buy WINE. I am absolutely going up the Co-op in my mask tomorrow to get a bottle, not had a glass of wine for over 2 weeks now (he forgot last week as well).
Don't judge me, there is a limit to what I can bear.
