Driving 5+ hours each way to pick up a pony

AIBU to think this is bloody stupid, selfish and just so wrong??

Person is driving across quite a few counties to collect a pony tomorrow..after driving across our county multiple times last week looking at others. Surely a pony is not an essential purpose and should not be being driven so far to get at this time? 5 hours is in a car..with no horse box. So god knows how long it will take with one and just seems so irresponsible! (They are also taking 3 children with them.for the drive!)

I was stopped last week, driving across 3 local authority areas (1 hour journey), to take food and medication to a disabled relative. The police were fine, as we’re doing it only once a week, and it was a good reason, but people are being stopped and questioned.
These folks sound like massive fools.

Lockdownproblems · 05/05/2020 23:46

God I hope they get stopped. So tempted to report them. Im hoping driving with a horse box will instantly create suspicion with any police on the road.

Moving animals is classed as essential for welfare reasons.

I don’t disagree it’s a bloody stupid thing to do, but it’s not against guidelines and police will do nothing.

Pinkrose27 · 06/05/2020 02:13

Well it’s against the ‘rules” but As long as they aren’t putting themselves or anyone at risk I can’t see the issue.

LonginesPrime · 06/05/2020 02:35

Why do you care so much?

If they want to break the law, surely that's up to them and it's their responsibility to deal with any consequences.

Whatsmyname26 · 06/05/2020 02:37

Movement of animals is allowed

ChewChewIsMySpiritAnimal · 06/05/2020 02:38

Just mind your own business. What's it got to do with you?

Bobleywobley · 06/05/2020 02:38

UK is 2nd highest death rate in the world because noone thinks the rules apply to them.

LostDesire · 06/05/2020 02:40

Gosh, lockdown really is showing how malicious and spiteful some people are.

I mean really, wishing they get caught. Just because you disagree with their choice to travel to pick a pony up.

No one is stopping you OP, you can go and pick a pony up as well.

Freewill is still a thing. If they want to go and pick a pony up and they are fully aware of the risks, such as getting pulled over and bollocked, then so what?

Hmm

Did I miss something and cars are a transmission vector now? A person could easily engage in the transfer of a pony while obeying social distancing guidelines with all human beings, couldn't they? Driving itself doesn't transmit the virus.

countrygirl99 · 06/05/2020 06:52

Moving the pony to a new home is within guidelines. Going out looking for one or transporting it somewhere to ride isn't.

mencken · 06/05/2020 10:50

you can get a pony in a car???

horse traffic round here is practically zero, everyone has parked up to avoid the risk of an accident and unnecessary NHS/ambulance call out. unless the animal is at active risk where it is, your friends should not be doing this. Nor should they have been out pony-shopping.

I've looked very hard and I can't see this on the 'reasons to go out. Nothing has changed and the virus is still spreading. Our village now has its first confirmed case.

LonginesPrime · 06/05/2020 13:26

Grin I read it like that at first too, but I think OP meant the journey would take five hours without a horse box so obviously longer with it.

I did have images of a pony lying across the DC's laps at first though...

mencken · 07/05/2020 20:17

ah, right.... Grin

This is not the time or place to be buying a pony. Clearly they have more money than sense as they won’t be able to hack out or anything while CV is on the go.
