So since my baby was newborn every time I feed him (bottle fed) he always spits out the sides of his mouth and it’s to the extent that every single bib I use gets soaked and it goes right through into his clothes. So I’m literally changing him every time he feeds. I’ve read online about positioning whilst feeding, I’ve tried this and still not helping. This is my second child, I had my first a year ago so I’m not new to being a mother. I’ve changed from number 1 teats to variflow and the problems still happening. He is still eating enough but almost 1 ounce is ending up on his bib, hair, back & clothes!! What am I doing wrong?

Also yes I’ve tried all types of bibs including the thick ones

  1. How old is he?
  2. Which bottle are you using?
  3. Why did you change teat? Variflow can be fast.

You need a slower teat. Sounds like he cant cope with the flow.

QueenofmyPrinces · 05/05/2020 05:36

Have you had him checked due to the tie?

One of the signs in bottle fed babies is that they leak milk from their mouth whilst feeding because they can’t obtain/maintain a proper seal around the teat.

Try different bottles/teats would be my first suggestion. Also a muslin cloth folded or rolled up and hold under their necks are good for absorbing loads of dribble! (Use a bib too and clothes shouldn’t need changed)

Check for tongue tie and get a smaller flow teat

I had this problem when I was using Tommee Tippee bottles. I changed to Mam bottles and it was much better.

DontGetMeStarted1 · 05/05/2020 05:45

I too had this problem with Tommee Tippee and also changed to MAM on I think theirs is a 0 test, and it was much better and hardly and dribbles

Bibs are useless. You need something large and folded over several times. Use wadded reusable nappies under where the overflow usually goes to absorb more milk while you experiment with different teats.

I echo above and had this with tonnee tippie and changed to mam bottles, helped greatly with this.
