My microwave has served its time - where should I order a new one?

So my microwave has taken to producing lightening inside it whenever you put anything in.
Just wondering if Amazon or Argos or anything deliver microwaves?
Also, I'm on a smart electric meter and the microwave has up until now caused the meter to turn its orange light on whenever it's turned on.

Is there an energy efficiency thing for microwaves.
Don't want to spend big money - just a basic one is fine.

studio will deliver to you. we don't have a smart meter so couldn't recommend a specific one that I can be sure is energy efficient x

Argos / eBay / Amazon - all do delivery of microwaves

Smart meter - orange - thats still better than red (my kettle does that) - not likely to get a new one which doesnt change it to orange / red - that depends on the WATT / performance. The worst` I have seen was 700W and even that turned the smart meter to orange. So I limit the time I need to use the MW. Defrosting in the fridge, rather than in the MW...etc

AO or Currys are delivering

Allsloppy · 04/05/2020 21:47

Just replaced mine from ao.com this week after mine died. Smile

Elouera · 04/05/2020 21:52

Have you cleaned every surface inside? Ours did this a few years ago, and turned out there was a some food stuck on a particular spot inside which was causing the spark. I think it was a square panel on one side, but cannot tell you what it does. I assume you've also checked there isn't a tiny piece of foil under the glass turning plate at the bottom?

We used appliances online years later when we did need it replaced.

dentydown · 04/05/2020 21:52

I’ve just bought one from argos today. Got it delivered this evening.

Nottherealslimshady · 04/05/2020 21:53

Currys are delivering. I just ordered a dishwasher off ebay and its bloody brilliant as was the delivery!

Prontoe · 05/05/2020 00:26

It's funny, I had just cleaned it, so pretty sure it's clean. I tried to microwave a potato first and it had the lightening so I figured it didn't like the lone potato, but then tried a plate of dinner and it had lightening with that too. I'm not willing to try it with anything else, so it can go in the bin I'm afraid! I honestly thought it was going to explode and set fire to the place!!

Looked at AO thank you but they don't deliver until Saturday. Will check out the other websites.
Christ. Just what I need at the moment. Everyone looking for money from me. TV licence due, washing machine on its last legs, now the microwave goes ffs.

Argos normally do same/next day delivery so I'd look there first OP!

Not sure about deliver times, but Boots is another one you may not have thought of:

The piece of silver card on the right hand side is a microwave protector if food gets stuck to it , it burns and hence the lightening. You can buy a replacement from aMazon for a few pounds, cut to size, take out the old one and I sert the new one. Problem solved.

WishMyNameWasWittyNotShitty · 05/05/2020 06:46

If you do your shopping at Morrisons, Tesco, Asda or Sainsburys they tend to sell them in store.

Imoan123 · 05/05/2020 07:24

I bought my new microwave from asda, I wanted a flatbed one (no turntable so easier to clean) asda was the only place that had one at a reasonable price.

ao.com

Our hoover went up in a puff of smoke on Saturday, got a new one coming this morning.

itstrue · 05/05/2020 07:50

Mine did this as well. It was a problem with the mircowave wave card as someone said above. I brought another and cut it to size and it was good to go! They are really inexpensive.

Student58 · 05/05/2020 08:07

I don't have one any more after getting tired of not being able to clean them properly and them rusting on the inside very quickly. It saves lots of worktop space too!

Littlecaf · 05/05/2020 08:08

Ao lets go! Had great service from them in the past.
