To think we shouldn’t be expected to buy uniform for the next school year

It’s a ridiculous expense at the best of times but it may barely get worn

@sarahtancredi I agree with most of what you’re saying but no kid NEEDS 75 quid school shoes ! You can get kickers boots at Wyndsors world of shoes for 30 quid ! Or decent lace up kangol leather shoes for £20 ! Sports direct is your friend !

Labels and logos arent usually allowed. Schools are very strict about shoes.

No boots allowed either which having two children with high in steps and who need the ankle support as they roll their ankles , would solve everything.

My kids are wearing their school shoes for playing out in the back garden. They need new trainers and I don’t like ordering shoes online. So yeah, they’re stuck with school shoes for now Grin

DTS start secondary in September (well hopefully as only one has a confirmed place as yet they will be going to separate schools) dt1 hasn't grown much in the last 3 years.. hes 11 but in 8-9 clothes and still a size 1 shoe so his school uniform will work out about £400 .... His twin (with no named school) grows as you watch he's taller than me in 14/15 clothes and has a size 7 shoe.. I will be waiting untill the last minute to buy his presuming he actually is allocated a school...and buy it slightly bigger than he is :)

Tattoocrazymum · 06/05/2020 11:51

I must be one of the odd ones out who bought my 8 year old all new school clothes, shoes etc last week.
BUT....
thats because his shoes dont fit anymore, his other inform also is ruined (Hes SEN) and i cant send him in to school (when they do open) with stained and paint on his uniform when ive had plenty of time to replace it

You actually made me remember anityer point which frustrated me. With jumpers and cardigans in primary you can get away with buying bigger they get taken off and tied round waist in summer anyway.

But the blazers have enough shoulder padding that if you try and buy bigger not only looks ridiculous, but actually inhibits their movement too as it's just kinda everywhere in the way.

Just why...

Luddite26 · 06/05/2020 12:14

I totally agree with you worldsworst.
Also as children get bigger VAT is added to the cost of the clothes.

Many kids because of their genes start wearing adult size clothing from the start of secondary school. Costing parents 20% more than some of their peers.
If we are still on quite strict social distancing I wouldn't want to be doing the back to school mayhem uniform buying.

twinkletoedelephant · 06/05/2020 18:08

Not huge....my mum bought me and my twin each a blazer that "would do us for the 4 years" ... I could not do that to my child.... dangling sleeves for years..then too short sleeves for the remaining time I mean one that's just up one size ... I expect he will grow into in a couple of months, although he should be going to a specialist school so hopefully polos shirts and jumpers for him ;)

I've got 5 summer dresses I bought last summer. I doesn't look like they will be worn by dd as she's bound to have grown by next year. It looks like someone is going to get a bargain at the charity shop. As for Sept I will wait until nearer the time.

Redwinestillfine · 08/05/2020 20:30

At best they'll be going in once a week for 6 or 7 weeks, probably not even that. I won't be buying uniform that

SpokeTooSoon · 08/05/2020 22:29

This thread inspired me to check my children’s school shoes. Have just ordered next size up in both so they have shoes that fit if we suddenly go back in June.
