To be confused about Sainsbury's delivery slots?

I've been shopping online at Sainsbury's once a week for around four years. At the start of lockdown I was no longer able to log into my account as I'm not a vulnerable person (which I completely understand!)

For the past five or six weeks I've been shopping at Tesco and Asda when possible instead, but today I decided to take another look at Sainsbury's. To my surprise I'm able to see a huge amount of delivery slots for the next week, and I could even order a delivery for tomorrow morning if I wanted to.

Is this a mistake? From what I've read Sainsbury's policies haven't changed and delivery slots should still be available only to vulnerable people. I went on Twitter and saw a lot of vulnerable people complaining (understandably!) that they still can't log onto the site as they aren't on the priority list. So why am I?

Of course I'm not going to use any of the slots, as I'm sure this is a mistake. It's also worth noting that I'm not a Delivery Pass holder, although I probably should get round to it after all this is over!

Anyone have any ideas as to why I'm suddenly able to see all the slots?

Sainsburys online is back to normal for us now, we had a delivery on Saturday. The only thing I noticed is I can only have a delivery once in a seven day period and I can only book slots for the next day.

Kitten9 · 04/05/2020 12:49

Oh, that's good to hear! It seems strange that some vulnerable people still aren't able to get slots, according to Twitter. Hopefully they're rolling out an update that will slowly allow everyone to get slots again!

Sainsburys have worked very hard to up their game. I was chatting to one of the drivers (safe distance!) He told ne they had staged it, first vulnerable, then elderly ( who had previously shopped) then existing shoppers ( thise who had no nectar card had no record) and then the rest. They have employed extra drivers and shoppers. Use the slot

StrawberrySquash · 04/05/2020 12:51

It could be that they've managed to expand slots locally, and the twitter people live elsewhere, but are still struggling. Although that doesn't explain them not being able to log in.

I just tried to log in. I can. But the message is slots reserved only for vulnerable customers. I could book a click and collect for a week's time.

SimonJT · 04/05/2020 12:51

I checked it by chance on Friday, obviously it may be area dependent (centralish London here).

Kitten9 · 04/05/2020 12:51

That's fantastic, thank you so much for clearing that up. I was feeling very guilty!

If the slots are there, use them. I don’t understand why you wouldn’t. Supermarkets have taken on more staff to pick orders and deliver them, to meet increased demand

Kitten9 · 04/05/2020 12:52

@SimonJT We'll centralish London too, so that might explain things!

I have gotten a slot every week apart from one when we got click&collect. We are not old or vulnerable but we have been using Sainsbury's for years.

Redcherries · 04/05/2020 13:26

It won't let me even see the delivery selection page and I am shielded and on the list!

Tesco has me sorted though :)

Mummyshark2019 · 04/05/2020 19:35

I just checked. Can't book anything. Says I have not been identified as a vulnerable person. Can only do click and collect.

Lionsleepstonight · 04/05/2020 19:56

This is so odd. Ive been able to get a slot once a week since the start. At one point it was only giving me a slot the next day, but tonight I've been able to get a slot for Saturday. The cynic in me thinks its due to me being a big spender due to buying for two elderly family members ......

BelfryBat · 04/05/2020 19:58

Sainsbury's are doing very well. I prefer the range offered by Ocado, but it's still impossible to rely on getting a slot with them. Sainsbury's have my business for the foreseeable future.

BelfryBat · 04/05/2020 19:59

@mummyshark19 it might depend on where you live?

Lozza70 · 04/05/2020 20:00

They have increased their capacity and as this will be on a store by store basis some of us will see those slots available and some not. Once all vulnerable people have a slot they open them up. If you can see a slot I would use it.

tiredanddangerous · 04/05/2020 20:05

I think it very much depends on where you live. There are no delivery slots available to me in my area. They’re showing a week at a time of click and collect slots, but I haven’t managed to book one.

Ghostlyglow · 04/05/2020 20:13

It will only let me on to click and collect, and there is never any slotd. No good to me anyway as I don't have a carAngry.

MintyMabel · 04/05/2020 20:18

No slots available where I am. Says I'm not recognised as a vulnerable customer so can't have a slot.

kingis · 04/05/2020 20:20

There is loads in my area. I can pretty much choose when I want it delivered. North west city.

lynsey91 · 04/05/2020 20:23

No slots in my area. Says you can only have delivery if you are vulnerable. I live in The Midlands

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 04/05/2020 20:29

Same here - we have done a Sainsbury’s delivery fortnightly since we moved here five years ago, now just get a message saying they are sorry, they know I am not vulnerable, try click and collect. Click and collect us no use because we don’t have a car, but there are no click and collect slots anyway!

Kingjarvis · 04/05/2020 20:32

I’ve managed to get a slot every week, no problem

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 04/05/2020 20:32

I just checked again out of interest - they are still sorry! We’re in a big city in Scotland.

thegirlanachronism · 04/05/2020 20:45

I've been wondering the same thing as suddenly there a lots of slots showing on my Sainsbury's app. I haven't booked one because I feel as though other people might need them more but if they are now just available for regular shoppers I might do it. I'm slightly wary that they won't have much of anything or it will all be substitutions.

Headbangersandmash · 04/05/2020 20:52

Sainsbury’s is my backup shop when I can't get Tesco and I had a look out of interest and they are only showing me click and collect slots. Luckily Tesco have been giving me slots so I don't need Sainsbury’s
