To think this woman just embarrassed herself

Just back from a dog-walk. My neighbourhood is very quiet, virtually no cars on the road. A woman comes towards me on a bike, on the pavement, I stand to the side but she brushes my elbow on her way past. She cycles on about 20-30 yards, stops cycling and yells, "FUCKING CUNT!" at me, then wheels her bike into her house. Presumably her neighbours will have heard her. Class. Sorry, just had to vent as it kind of upset me. I know people are having a tough time but there's no need to shout abuse at people in the street.

technically warrants reporting to police Hmm

@TinySleepThief hahaha!

deydododatdodontdeydo · 04/05/2020 13:18

I've noticed lots more people than normal cycling on the pavement, recently. They really shouldn't. I think it's people who don't normally cycle so they are afraid to cycle in the road.
Then again, I've noticed pedestrians walking in main roads too.

Who knows what issues she has going on in her life though.

No excuse. Everyone might have this excuse. There are a lot of twats about, that's all.

Elouera · 04/05/2020 13:22

I had a similar incident last year. A man ran a red light on his bike while I was crossing the street (I was on a green man!) he came close enough to run over my foot. When I said 'watch it', he wheeled his bike back around and spat in my face!!!

Be grateful the women didn't do that!!!

dontdisturbmenow · 04/05/2020 13:24

Who knows. Maybe she just got on the pavement as she was just going into her house. Maybe you made a point of suddenly getting into her way, or extend the lead of your dog so that it covered the whole pavement.

She clearly thought you did something unpleasant, maybe you did or maybe she's just a moron.

Lynda07 · 04/05/2020 13:25

What a horrible woman! I honestly don't understand what gets into some people. It sounds like you did everything right so try and put it behind you.

HarlanWillYouStopNamingNuts · 04/05/2020 13:25

Not in East London, no. I didnt want to describe the area initially because if comes across a bit Hyacinth Bucket, but it is a quiet, fairly affluent area which I know has a few curtain-twitchers.

Yes to people walking on the road, too! My DH did it last night. It's like some bizarre game of chicken.

Wow.
Try to put it down to her being a horrible individual who has forgot that her stabilisers were taken off years ago (maybe) and move on.

Yes lots of us are struggling but being a complete knob to a person walking on the pavement is unacceptable. Why do so make people make excuses for poor behaviour.

ravenmum · 04/05/2020 13:25

I'd assume drunk or unwell - not as an excuse, just as an explanation, as otherwise I can't imagine what she might be on about based on the story. I once helped a very drunk bloke who was having trouble staying on his bike. He told me that his son had just committed suicide. Not as en excuse, just as an explanation.

Poppi89 · 04/05/2020 13:26

She has definitely embarrassed herself!

And I am so glad you didn't respond as I probably would have and then lost the moral high ground. She must feel like such an idiot now!

She shouldn't have been on the pavement.
Could she not have used hazard perception, seen you and moved on to the road whilst she passed you. Why do you need to move on to the road!

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 04/05/2020 13:31

No excuse. Everyone might have this excuse. There are a lot of twats about, that's all.

I think the best thing to remember about people like this is that you have the momentary unpleasantness of having to encounter them once or occasionally and otherwise get on with your day like a normal person; they have to (or choose to) live like that their whole lives, with that gross stupidity and uncontrolled, irrational anger 24/7.

Methtones · 04/05/2020 13:35

Why do people feel the need to cycle on the pavements just now. Surely cycles belong on roads unless it's a shared path?!

Maybe she was just talking to herself to remind herself not to cycle on pavements any more.

Icannotknit · 04/05/2020 13:43

V unpleasant behaviour. However, it was just words. Let it go. Everyone is under a huge amount of pressure at the moment. There is never an excuse for behaviour like that, but in these circumstances I'd be inclined to be a bit more understanding as to why she might have lost it.

Poppi89 · 04/05/2020 13:46

THIS!!!

greenyblueeyedgirl · 04/05/2020 13:47

did anyone else open this thread worried it was going to be about something they'd done without realising?! not that I go around swearing at innocent passers by!

TheUnquestionedAnswer · 04/05/2020 13:59

Tourettes?

CallMeOnMyCell · 04/05/2020 14:11

A similar thing happened to me, I was pushing my DD in her pushchair down a narrow path, a cyclist stopped so I could pass and I was about to say thank you, she said “a thank you would be nice you stupid bitch”. I was stunned. She shouldn’t have been on the path in the first place.

nevermorelenore · 04/05/2020 14:13

What a charmer. Take comfort in the fact that one day she'll call the wrong person a fucking cunt and will get herself in a lot of trouble. These idiots always do.

It's crazy. Apart from the matter of the law and common consideration to pedestrians, pavements are usually narrower and have kerbs and obstacles on them. Apart from traffic lights and give-way junctions, roads are designed for the free flowing of vehicles - pedestrians have to keep stopping and waiting whilst giving priority at the edge of every block. Of course, children lack confidence and awareness, so they need the slowness and the safety of a pavement over a fast road, but why an adult would make that choice is completely beyond me.

DollyDoneMore · 04/05/2020 14:20

make a note of where she lived

Why? What were you going to do with it.

The correct response was to yell “Fuck off, you fucking idiot” at her.

OneandTwenty · 04/05/2020 14:20

Looking at the way people are driving around here, I don't really blame cyclist to feel safer on the pavements. I must have missed the memo about speed limits being lifted during the lockdown.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 04/05/2020 14:24

one day she'll call the wrong person a fucking cunt and will get herself in a lot of trouble.

A stick or umbrella swiftly shoved in her spokes could easily see her in A&E with neck pains and the results of flying through the air and landing on tarmac. And that's not including any physical attacks made directly to her person.

When that day comes, what's the betting she'll be all over SM and the local news as the poster-girl 'victim' campaigning for better awareness and treatment of cyclists and, in so doing, stir up hatred and accusations against a great many responsible and considerate cyclists and pedestrians.

Kaykay066 · 04/05/2020 14:27

They can feel safer on the pavement all they like, bikes are for roads, we pedestrians need to worry some eejit on a bike is going to hit us or out kids or dogs just so a cyclist is ‘safe’ they need to walk if that’s the case.

I was walking on a pavement recently and I was nearly run over by a cyclist flying round the corner he couldn’t see me I could jump out of the way but older person or even blind or disabled person he would’ve ploughed into there’s no need whatsoever for that level of carelessness and entitled behaviour. Adults should never be on a pavement whilst riding a bike

Windyatthebeach · 04/05/2020 14:27

Start carrying a small twig op.
Next time shove it in her spokes and loud tinkly laugh as she is catapulted in the bushes...
And shout 'back at ya' as you walk off..
