Will I be going on holiday to Greece at the end of July?

We have booked flights and accommodation (in a private villa) separately. We can cancel the villa until the end of May and get a refund, bit would go if it was feasible. What do you think are our chances?

No.

crustycrab · 04/05/2020 10:49

Zero. Why would you want to travel during a pandemic? It is very unlikely that you'd be covered by your insurance for a start

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 04/05/2020 10:49

I’d bet no

ImFreeToDoWhatIWant · 04/05/2020 10:49

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

No.

BlueSuffragette · 04/05/2020 10:49

Slim. Don't think it is very likely. Sorry.

Flippetydip · 04/05/2020 10:50

Slim to none I would say but no-one will be able to answer your question at this point in time. If it were me, and I could cancel without financial penalty I probably would.

Silenceisnotgolden · 04/05/2020 10:50

Not if I’m not.

PinkiOcelot · 04/05/2020 10:51

I’m supposed to go on 12 July but have resigned myself that I won’t be going.
To be honest, I don’t think the holiday would be the same anyway with social distancing etc being in place.
I’ve also read that Greece will be allowing travellers from July but not from the UK. Don’t know what that’s about exactly.

missyB1 · 04/05/2020 10:51

No we should have been going as well. Skopelos on 10th July. We know it won’t happen.

juicy0 · 04/05/2020 10:52

If the airline was operating the flights then I would go. Clearly I'm in the minority here though!
We have been to Greece for the last four summers with the same company. They sent an email out yesterday saying that the Greek government are very enthusiastic about getting the season underway in July. We are due to go mid August and if the flights depart we will be on them.

Movinghouseatlast · 04/05/2020 10:54

The Greek government have a plan, but it does involve having a health 'passport'. They certainly want to be open, that is their aim.

I would cancel and get your money back. I love Greece and I'm desperate to go, but I don't think it will happen from the UK.

Merename · 04/05/2020 10:54

I’d go if flights/ services were available, however I think the likelihood of it being doable is slim. You’d probably have to quarantine at either end, if flights are running by then.

CaptainBrickbeard · 04/05/2020 10:58

Am in the same situation and I just can’t see how it could happen safely. I am sure that Greece will do everything they can to be able to open as much as possible but I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t let in travellers from the U.K. given that we are the worst hit in Europe and too risky for them. I would love to go but it would be terrible to get ill abroad. I’m assuming it won’t happen this year.

vanillandhoney · 04/05/2020 11:01

I very, very much doubt it.

Badoukas · 04/05/2020 11:02

I think not.

MorganKitten · 04/05/2020 11:03

Nope

shinyredbus · 04/05/2020 11:04

I’m off to Dubai and Asia end of July - I think we would probably go too - unless they cancelled my flights.

blue25 · 04/05/2020 11:08

Zero. Would you really want to go on a plane in July?

crustycrab · 04/05/2020 11:08

@shinyredbus so how does that work? You quarantine for 14 days in Dubai, then 14 in wherever you're going to in Asia (possibly multiple destinations), then quarantine for 14 days on arrival back in the UK.

All the while probably not covered by insurance should you be come sick.

Crazy

BarbaraofSeville · 04/05/2020 11:14

I would go if:

There isn't an FCO 'do not travel' restriction in place.

There were no restrictions going there or coming back in terms of quarantine period.

Supermarkets, bars, restaurants and any attractions/activities I would be wanting to do are open and not likely to have to queue for ages to get into anywhere.

Whether the situation will be like the above I don't know. The Greek (and Spanish and other Mediterranean countries that rely heavily on tourism) are very keen to not totally lose the main summer season and I would hope that their governments only allow international tourism if it's considered that the risk is acceptably low (what we need to remember is that all the restrictions are about reducing risk, not eliminating it) but whether or not that will be the case in two months time, I have no idea, nor does anyone else.

PumpkinP · 04/05/2020 11:16

What do people think about September? I have a holiday booked for then and need to pay the rest off in a couple of days.

AldiAisleOfCrap · 04/05/2020 11:18

You may as well have asked the question “will I be going on holiday to the moon in July” the answer is the same sorry.

BeardedMum · 04/05/2020 11:20

No and my guess is no travel or holidays this year

StCharlotte · 04/05/2020 11:41

I’ve also read that Greece will be allowing travellers from July but not from the UK. Don’t know what that’s about exactly.

Can I ask where you read that?

I've got FCO updates for Greece on my phone (also have a trip there booked) and at the moment, they're only allowing residents onto the islands.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 04/05/2020 11:49

I would say that if I could go I would, I just don’t think travellers from the U.K. will be allowed
