Would it be really common to put the trampoline in the front garden ?

I do have enough space in the back BUT the neighbours two doors down used to Moab when the kids sang in it, presumably they were getting wankered on Prosecco in their back garden

@lipstick You could be me! My neighbour has also put their trampoline in their front garden right next to my living room. No fence or hedge, just a low metal chain fence. Bloody thing is so squeaky and then the pads all bang against the metal springs. I hate it. They're okay though as they're living room is down the other end of the garden Angry

Bluntness100 · 04/05/2020 07:59

It really is a weird British thing that front gardens are never to be used, they are there for show only.

I think if you and the kids are comfortable with it there and for them to use it there, then go for it.

cologne4711 · 04/05/2020 08:01

I'm the same hedgehog, I don't like it either. But I think it's because I don't like people staring at me when I walk past. Kids bouncing on a trampoline is less of an issue, they're not remotely interested in passers by. But if you have room around the back I'd put it round the back.

thepeopleversuswork · 04/05/2020 08:03

Bluntness innit. I loathe this sort of prurience about anyone showing any element of their life to the outside world. So repressed and needlessly judgemental.

Also the people who pay the most attention to this sort of thing are commoner than anything and can’t see the irony of the fact.

ANoiseAnnoys · 04/05/2020 08:06

I’d just tell your neighbours to fuck off (but I AM common!)

Mummyoflittledragon · 04/05/2020 08:12

There is a trampoline in a front garden I drive past when going to the shops on an estate just off the city ring road (dual carriageway). My take when dd was 6/7 and it appeared is I would never have that there because I’d be too scared of my dd getting run over if she ran to see someone or kidnapped. Wouldn’t give a shit about the trampoline. Dds friend otoh has her trampoline set back in the front garden down a small road. It is no annoyance to neighbours, whose house is nowhere near the trampoline. She and her dsis are both at secondary school. The front garden is big, the back one small. I couldn’t see an issue with having it there.

Hedgehog44 · 04/05/2020 08:13

@poshme argh!!! I just can't cope with it! No! You must stay out the back!!!

poshme · 04/05/2020 08:15

@Hedgehog44 sometimes we even BBQ at the front. Shock

m0therofdragons · 04/05/2020 08:17

Our trampoline is in the back but the sound of their giggles and talking are clearly heard in the front. Neighbours without children tell me they love hearing them play - I think they’re all very middle class and polite. Mine get so much use out of the trampoline so just get it for the front garden and be seen as common on mnet for a few years. Doing what works for your family rather than worrying about status.

HopeYouStepOnALego · 04/05/2020 08:19

Considering burglars who hurt themselves trying to break into your property are able to sue you, I'd be reluctant to have it out front in case someone took it upon themselves to have a go and had an accident in the process.

Macncheeseballs · 04/05/2020 08:22

Aren't the kids a bit young to be getting 'wankered on prosecco'?

Itwasntme1 · 04/05/2020 08:25

I had trampolines in front gardens - looks really untidy.

But put the trampoline wherever suits you best. Probably will piss more neighbours off if it’s in the front garden😊.

CatLadyP · 04/05/2020 08:26

Unless your kids are singing loudly late at night on it then your neighbours have no right to complain. If you live somewhere with other houses and gardens adjoining then you can't expect silence in your garden. I'd just ignore their complaints and keep it out the back.

letsdolunch321 · 04/05/2020 08:28

Fuck the neighbours, put music on to drown out there moaning

ChrissieKeller61 · 04/05/2020 08:44

I’m loving the thought process. I think we stick to the back, we’re not short on space and as others have said kids can play in their garden ... they aren’t belting out nessun dorma at 11pm

diddl · 04/05/2020 08:54

Moab when the kids sang in it?

Moan when the kids were on it?

Presumably the kids weren't singing as the obvious thing would be to just tell them to stop!

Do you get lots of kids wandering by who will want a go?

As for people hurting themselves-wouldn't you just need to put a sign up?

Maybe the back is easier, Op?

GetOffTheTableMabel · 04/05/2020 08:57

I can’t even tell who’s joking!
Are we really concerned that a trampoline might distract drivers? Who are these people? They must be continually careering into things. Who the hell peers into front gardens while they’re driving?
And are we honestly concerned that the OP might be sued by a burglar who hurts himself while he tries to bounce into her home and steal her stuff? 🤣😂

NeutralJanet · 04/05/2020 09:00

Make sure its weighted down well if you do move it. My neighbours had theirs round the front and it ended up on top of two doors down van one day when it was windy.

spatchcock · 04/05/2020 09:06

@GetOffTheTableMabel

I’m with you - I’m not sure if this is satire. It’s very funny though!

I also wondered about the drivers who somehow manage to navigate cars pulling out of driveways and roundabouts but drive off the road at the sight of children on a trampoline.

Also think this is a very stereotypically English problem*...

*not a problem

EricaNernie · 04/05/2020 09:20

no, i dont even see the children on the trampoline, just the trampoline, and i worry that they will bounce off, over the netting, into the road

Davespecifico · 04/05/2020 09:26

I’ve seen some front garden trampolines. It really depends. If the area isnt busy and the the garden is fairly big, I think it looks fine.
There’s a front garden near me with 3 football goals in it but it fine because the area is quiet and during these times, everyone understands you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do to keep the children occupied.

ALovelyBitOfSquirrel · 04/05/2020 10:30

I know I'm a horrible snob but I hate people doing stuff in the front garden. Trampolines, deckchairs, people smoking in their dressing gowns...

Oh you're not alone! I do too Grin

Lynda07 · 04/05/2020 11:29

You're not a horrible snob, most people don't like it which is why it isn't generally done. The op doesn't have to do it, she has a perfectly adequate back garden and her children aren't going to be out there, squealing, from dawn 'til dark. If she did put it in the front garden she would feel obliged to be out there too in order to protect the children.

peoplewhoannoyyou · 04/05/2020 11:34

Yes, it would be as common as shit. Front gardens aren't for enjoyment, they are for keeping tidy. If you're willing to let the kids trampoline in it, then you're on a slippery slope - next you'll be drinking in it, smoking in it, and leaving a knackered old sofa you can't be arsed to take to the tip in it.

MitziK · 04/05/2020 11:43

Depending upon the area, it would

Be nicked on the grounds it had been put out the front like recycling.

Blow away in the first puff of wind compared to in the shelter of a fenced back garden and cause significantly more damage to cars/cause an accident.

Have local kids/drunks bouncing on it at midnight or attract rough sleepers/pissheads wanting a kip or the local addicts might use it for a quick bunk up.

Of all the possibilities, the idea of it smashing into a moving vehicle because the wind's picked up a bit is the one that would bother me the most/would be the most likely outcome.
