There is a parent voice questionnaire being shared on the DfE Facebook page. It’s not been widely publicised hence the closing date is tomorrow at 9am (Monday 4th May). Had my friend not just shared in her page I wouldn’t have known if even existed.

The results will be shared with Government this week to help inform their decisions. The very last question allows parents to state when they want schools to reopen.

I am not sure if I am allowed to post the link to the questionnaire below but if you search DFE on Facebook, they posted it some when yesterday.

AIBU to think this should have been better publicised?

Interesting, yes, that should be more widely available.

Tigertrees · 03/05/2020 21:17

I'd prefer the government were guided by medical staff and school staff to be honest, not parents.

doubleshotespresso · 03/05/2020 21:22

I saw this earlier and thought it was interesting- I agree too it's been very quietly introduced!
I disagree on only the government officials having a say here, I think given the way they've generally treated the public it's about time parents are provided some sort if opportunity to voice their opinion.

kimlo · 03/05/2020 21:25

I found it intresting that July was given as a choice for when do you think you would be happy to send your children to school.

Rainycloudyday · 03/05/2020 21:25

I'd prefer the government were guided by medical staff and school staff to be honest, not parents.

This. 100%.

Ilikefresias · 03/05/2020 21:30

Thank you, I've filled it in. I want Sept! No sooner

twilightermummy · 03/05/2020 21:31

Thanks for sharing this Smile

Namechangervaver · 03/05/2020 21:36

Submitted!

Grasspigeons · 03/05/2020 21:38

I filled it in. It was a bit odd.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 03/05/2020 21:41

Parents views are important.

If doctors etc think it's fine to reopen schools, but actually most parents are cautious paranoid and say they won't send their children til there is a vaccine, it would be illogical to open schools knowing only a handful of children will turn up.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 03/05/2020 21:42

Ilikefresias

Why? Are you a doctor or someone with inside information? Why is September any safer than July?

People have fixated on a need to isolate for months where there is no evidence this is necessary.

Brownsauce83 · 03/05/2020 21:43

That survey is by Parentkind, the PTA body, can’t see anything about it being DfE?

MrsMigginsPie · 03/05/2020 21:45

Is this a DfE funded survey? Looks like it’s a survey run by Parentkind?

doubleshotespresso · 03/05/2020 21:46

Was shared on the DFE website

SpeedofaSloth · 03/05/2020 21:48

Thank you, I have completed it.

CoronaIsComing · 03/05/2020 21:49

Thanks for sharing, I’ve completed it too. It’s interesting that July is mentioned while to rumour mill is going crazy about a 1st June return.

hopeishere · 03/05/2020 21:53

It's not a government survey but I filled it in anyway.

Ted27 · 03/05/2020 21:58

Its a Parentkind survey, its up to them to publicise it not the DfE.
The DfE will be receiving all manner of representations about when schools should open.

Ugzbugz · 03/05/2020 22:00

What is going to be different in september? It wont be eradicated by then and we wont have a vaccine?

oblada · 03/05/2020 22:07

Hopefully the government will make an informed decision based on scientific, economic and social data. Not 'parent's views'....
I have completed it tho it was a bit silly tbh. There was a question about "homeschooling" and there didn't seem to be an option to say 'im not homeschooling because I'm flipping working FT thank you very much'!

Applesandpears23 · 03/05/2020 22:09

Thanks, I completed. The last question was weird because it was asking about 3 different things. 1. How soon do you guess it will be a good idea for schools to go back 2. Who do you trust? school or govt and 3. When in the progress of the epidemic should schools go back?

I said vaccine but would also be happy if the numbers infected are really low. No-one know how bad things will be in July/Sept yet so how can anyone answer that.

Ciwirocks · 03/05/2020 22:15

I have just completed this. It made me realise how little guidance we are getting from dc’s school. I don’t know how anyone could give a fixed date of when they would be happy to send their children to school, it depends on the numbers of new cases surely. In any case is highly likely to be safer for children to be in school now than it was before they broke up and hopefully will be safer still when they do actually go back

MrsVMorgan · 03/05/2020 22:50

That’s very true.

OP posts:
pourmeanotherglass · 03/05/2020 23:00

@oblada there also wasn't an option to say 'I'm not homeschooling because my year 12 dc knows more than I do about her a level subject's and my year 11 dc hasn't got any work to Do.' Filled it out anyway.

middleager · 03/05/2020 23:15

Done, but I'll be guided by the DoH, not DfE.
