Bouncy castle?

NoRoomInBed · 03/05/2020 08:36

I'm thinking about getting the kids a bouncy castle for DS birthday for the garden. It uses a continuous air flow so a low hum while they use it.
Would only use it in the afternoon time.
AIBU to get one would it annoy neighbours?

Will be one of these so not a small toddler one.

Wouldn’t bother me as a one off for a kids birthday. You can always mention it to them if concerned. Have to be a right bloody misery guts to object.

BoomBoomsCousin · 03/05/2020 08:42

It will depend how loud it ends up being and how much the sound travels. Occasional use? YANBU. Everyday? You may be.

Sparklingbrook · 03/05/2020 08:42

It’s not a one off though is it?

Lovely idea but not sure about a low hum, how close are the neighbours? How noisy would your DC be on it?

NoRoomInBed · 03/05/2020 08:43

I do think in the beginning itll be used alot but only for a few hours at a time.

A lot depends on how big your garden is? Tiny where the castle only just fits- YABU
Massive and can be sited away from neighbours -YANBU

TidyDancer · 03/05/2020 08:44

I wouldn't do it personally. As a one off it would be fine and wouldn't bother me at all, used for hours at a time on a regular basis? It will annoy people.

Reginabambina · 03/05/2020 08:45

If you want to do something like this you first need to get yourself a garden big enough to be able to do it with disturbing neighbours.

NoRoomInBed · 03/05/2020 08:46

All of our nieghbours have kids with trampolines and general kid noise. My DS is non verbal (waiting for assessment) hes loved going to the weekly bouncy place before lockdown.

They are a lot of money for infrequent use.

TheFairyCaravan · 03/05/2020 08:48

It would piss me off.

A one off for a birthday party is fine. Kids out there screaming and shouting, day in and day out is annoying imo.

CelestialSpanking · 03/05/2020 08:48

I’d have no problem with it at all but I’m not a misery bum, there’s loads of kids on our street so lots of their noise outside anyway, and my kids would love something like that themselves (I can’t afford it). In fact, the youngest would be very keen on getting an invite to yours to play on it when lockdown is over.

Minnie888 · 03/05/2020 08:49

OP you haven't answered how big your garden is?

Sparklingbrook · 03/05/2020 08:50

Not wanting the hum ( or worse) of a bouncy castle and the associated noise of children playing on it during lockdown doesn’t make you a ‘misery bum’. Grin

Kezmum14 · 03/05/2020 08:51

We have one and they aren’t overly noisy (the children make more noise in excitement. We’ve been using ours sometimes regularly (every day for 3 weeks) and other times every couple of months with no complaints from neighbours. I didn’t even think of the noise levels as the continuous airflow really isn’t that loud anyway. We don’t let the children in the garden until after 10am and they are always in by 8pm but mostly 6pm anyway. I say get one and let them enjoy it :)

NoRoomInBed · 03/05/2020 08:51

Oh sorry garden big enough not to be up against neighbors fence. Big enough that we could fit this and a trampoline happily in the middle of garden.

Isadora2007 · 03/05/2020 08:53

If you can afford it and you think your lad would love it- go for it!!

Sparklingbrook · 03/05/2020 08:55

A bouncy castle and a trampoline. That sounds noisy.

Can you ask your neighbours? Just because neighbours don’t complain doesn’t mean they aren’t annoyed by the noise.

Cabinfever10 · 03/05/2020 08:55

Please don't.
My neighbour has 1 and it drives the hole terrace nuts.
Not the kids having that's normal it's the constant noise of the pump/motor.

Cabinfever10 · 03/05/2020 08:57

Noise not having

SerendipitySunshine · 03/05/2020 08:59

Pumps on them are really loud. I wouldn't.

NoRoomInBed · 03/05/2020 09:00

Yeah I mean I could fold away the trampoline while the castle is in use so they are only on the one thing. When theres a vaccine or treatment or whatever I could put it on the front green for all the nieghbours kids to play on too. Will give the kids someone to play with when it's all over.

DodgyTrousers · 03/05/2020 09:03

I think it would be okay for a one off but certainly not as a long term thing.

That would really piss me off. Not just the pump, but the children screaming in excitement whilst jumping on the thing.

No way.

Why should I have to endure that on a daily basis.

Other people's noise is the worst and I am are very mindful of this with my own children in the garden.

Other people don't want to always listen to other people's children.
It's not fair.

Call me a moany old goat, but that's how I see it.

Notso · 03/05/2020 09:04

The family behind us have one, I don't think it's too bad. No worse than the strimmer/pressure washer/lawn mower/power drill/sander that get used on a daily basis.

However I wouldn't buy one of the ones in the link, for the same price you could get an actual bouncy castle which is easier to clean, you wouldn't be using Sports Direct and you could hire it out or sell it on at a higher price.

DodgyTrousers · 03/05/2020 09:06

Kezmum

I'm so glad I don't live next to you.
Your poor neighbours.
