Bouncy castle?

I'm thinking about getting the kids a bouncy castle for DS birthday for the garden. It uses a continuous air flow so a low hum while they use it.
Would only use it in the afternoon time.
AIBU to get one would it annoy neighbours?

Going to sound a misery guts but if you put it in the green for others to use you will need to be responsible for it and supervise it whilst in use. It is very easy for children to get really excited and daft and potentially hurt each other or exceed the recommended number of children.

NoRoomInBed · 03/05/2020 09:19

Yep that's no bother to me 😊

Have you got a long enough extension lead to put it in the green?

You would literally have to stand there the whole time supervising. Could you be sued if someone hurts themselves? I really don’t know. 🤷‍♀️

TooMinty · 03/05/2020 09:26

Our previous neighbours had one of these, the noise wasn't a problem at all. They got quite a lot of use out of it, although they have three kids across a reasonable age range.

1Morewineplease · 03/05/2020 09:28

Surely you’d need Public Liability Insurance if you allow any child to use it in a public place? As well as permission from the council.
Do some research before you put it on your green.

SerenDippitty · 03/05/2020 09:31

If you put it on your green it will also be your responsibility to ensure that weather conditions are appropriate for its use.

NoRoomInBed · 03/05/2020 09:31

Ahh mabye not then didnt think of that. Thank you. Mabye just invite neighbours kids to garden. If we get one. The general consensus is not too atm.

Do you get on well with your neighbours? Have they got children? If they are retired or elderly they probably won’t appreciate the noise. (plus they can’t go out to escape currently)But if they have children of their own they might not care so much.

I'm also glad I don't live next door to Kezmum.

Ilovemypantry · 03/05/2020 09:35

I would say no, not unless your garden is huge. Please be considerate to your neighbours, especially at this time when many people are at home all day and might want to enjoy some peace and quiet in their own gardens.

Ilovemypantry · 03/05/2020 09:40

@Kezmum14

Omg....your kids are out in the garden making noise every day from 8am until 8pm 😱. Your poor neighbours, they’re nerves must be frazzled.

mum11970 · 03/05/2020 09:40

If you want one, get one. The noise of an air blower isn’t overly loud.

sowrj · 03/05/2020 09:43

I've got a similar one. We have had it year and maybe had it up about 10 times in the garden. It also fits in are lounge though so we have it up inside quite a lot too when the weather is rubbish.

SquirtleSquad · 03/05/2020 09:44

My friend has a very similar one, not super loud or intrusive but her children only use of for an hour every now and then. It's not something you'd want going for several hours regularly. I wouldn't buy anything from sports direct though but that's a separate issue.

BeenHereForAges · 03/05/2020 09:45

The ones from smyths pack away small & the blowers about as noisy as a hairdryer.

beansonbread · 03/05/2020 09:49

We’ve got a smaller version and we put it up maybe once or twice a week for an hour at most. We always pop our heads over the fence to tell the neighbours and they’re always fine with it. It does make me laugh though that we notify all our neighbours about the potential noise of the bouncy castle but they never feel the need to tell us when they’re going to spend hours strimming hedges, drilling down decking, mowing lawns, power washing patios etc. It’s all noise and it all carries but why is it acceptable for some garden noise and not others? Both the upkeep and playing are acceptable uses of a garden but yet one seems to cause more issue than the other on here. In my opinion, use common sense as your judgement call and just give a polite nod to your neighbours when you’re going to use it and let them know for how long.

grey261127 · 03/05/2020 09:51

I used to have a bouncy castle business. The pump isn't very loud really at all. The only thing I would say is I would not get one from sports direct, for that price you can get a proper one from a reputable bouncy castle manufacturer. The one you linked probably wouldn't last 5 minutes, and probably won't come with the correct length pegs to peg it into the ground correctly. If you do get one please look at the safety information regarding how to anchor them correctly and perhaps buy an anemometer (not expensive) to make sure you are using it in the correct wind speeds.

Kastanien · 03/05/2020 09:56

I think you should get it, it isn't any noisier than lawnmowers/hedge trimmers and DIY power tools. A lot of people in my area have had radios on really loudly too. I get that some people would like quiet enjoyment of their garden, but then others want their garden to be for children to play in. Peace and quiet is hard to achieve in a suburban garden.

TheHuntingOfTheSarky · 03/05/2020 09:56

Our old neighbours had one of these when their boy was little. Used to drive us nuts in the Summer as we could hear it droning even when we weren't out in the garden.

MamaTo7 · 03/05/2020 09:57

I've rented them a few times for birthday parties and you can only hear them if you are outside, it's really not an irritating noise either so I don't think it would be a problem.

NoRoomInBed · 03/05/2020 09:58

Ok so no sports direct. Any recommendations?

Forgot to say aswell every nieghbour has kids ranging from 2 to 11. Next door has a quad bike that he let's the kids ride round the garden so dont think hes bothered about noise.

Sparklingbrook · 03/05/2020 10:01

In the main mowing/strumming and power tools are not used for as long a period as the bouncy castle. (I know there are a few tales of all day DIY etc).

But it all depends on what your neighbours are like.

NoRoomInBed · 03/05/2020 10:01

Oh also would it upset dogs? One nieghbour has two lovely labs that tend to bark anyways. I dont want to stress them out

@DodgyTrousers Better to hear kids outside playing and having fun then inside all day watching tv or on their iPads.
