Netflix so dark

locomoco19 · 02/05/2020 21:22

Why is some of the things I watch on netflix so dark! Is there any way I can put brightness up on Netflix? Am watching on my tv. It's not my tv, as when I hVe it on normal tv it's bright, I went on to my settings and put the brightness right up and still on Netflix it's so dark and dim that I can barely even see their faces!

Can you get subtitles on Netflix?

Can you imagine how bad it would be if a company of that size didn't offer subtitles??

So yes, you can. They're very good subs too.

OP maybe it's something to do with your TV? If I watch Netflix on my TV, which is a 42" LCD TV but is 7 years old now, some shows/films are REALLY dark and hard to see. But I usually watch on my work monitor which is a high quality Apple thing and it looks great. Dark but visible and clear.

I'm watching Ozark and not really enjoying it. I gather that makes me some sort of pariah.

It gets better. Hopefully it does for you though. I had powered through a few episodes before I started binging.

chunkyrun · 03/05/2020 08:04

It is really good. I enjoyed it even though I spelled it ozarks Grin

Flavabobble · 03/05/2020 08:22

My son's been on at me to watch it. I'll find it infinitely amusing to refer to it as 'The Ozarks' when I do.

ChicChicChicChiclana · 03/05/2020 10:02

Yep, it's The Ozarks for me in this house from now on Grin.

The writers seem obsessed with 1. blowjobs, 2. breasts, 3. giving various major characters a long, theatrical speech that only a professional screenwriter could come up with. I'm too aware of the mechanics of the script ... just not buying it. Still, will persevere.

TwelveMonkeys · 03/05/2020 10:58

Watch Better Call Saul instead. It's much, much better.

SandrasAnnoyingFriend · 03/05/2020 11:35

This thread has really amused me this morning. Thanks to all the 'The Ozarks' fans and not-fans

jimmyhill · 04/05/2020 01:01

I prefer The EastEnders

ChicChicChicChiclana · 04/05/2020 01:14

I watched another episode of the Ozarks tonight. Still not feeling the love particularly. I mean, who am I supposed to be rooting for ... is it Marty? He's almost as unlikeable as the rest of them.

Thepigeonsarecoming · 04/05/2020 01:22

Have never watch the Ozarks, is it worth a go? I do notice the sound on some programmes on Netflix is weird, the voices are quiet but sound effects and music so loud. Don’t get this with sky or amazon

Glitteryone · 04/05/2020 01:28

Ozark is very dark. I thought there was something wrong with my tv, so I put it on my laptop and realised actually it’s just how it’s been filmed!

I found Ozark boring in season 1, better in season 2 and loving it now on season 3.

Glitteryone · 04/05/2020 01:30

I might actually start calling it the Ozarks now! lol

TwelveMonkeys · 04/05/2020 01:38

He's an anti-hero. So you're not really supposed to root for anyone, I guess.

InfiniteSheldon · 04/05/2020 06:18

Ruth that's wrongly should be rooting for

InfiniteSheldon · 04/05/2020 06:18

*who

ChicChicChicChiclana · 04/05/2020 06:22

Yeah, but if you don't like anyone or care about anyone it makes it difficult to engage I find.

I think part of my problem, coming to it late, is the fact that I know there are another 2 series coming ... so that tells me the major fact about the main characters whereas it would have been more edge of seat viewing if I hadn't known that iykwim.

To the pp who asked if it's worth watching ... I think it probably is! I'm not absolutely bowled over but everyone says it gets better, so am sticking with it. It's horribly violent and sleazy though.

UnabashedlyNeurodifferent · 04/05/2020 11:43

It's hard to root for anyone in Season 1 but towards the end of Season 2, you start having favourites (still not rooting for anyone as they're all insane). By season 3, it becomes a lot more obvious. It's very interesting but took me a while to get there. Now I can't wait for the new season of 'The Ozarks' Grin

SarahTancredi · 04/05/2020 11:56

Oh god yes.

I'm.used to what I watch being kinda dark anyway as I'm into horrors and things with vampires or aliens and demons etc so naturally alot of stuff is at night.

But even so it us difficult at times.

And agree with the sound. One minute it's so quiet the next you half ecoevtbthe neighbours to start banging on the walls. Even in the same show

jimmyhill · 04/05/2020 12:40

Ruth Langmore FTW

locomoco19 · 05/05/2020 00:14

All this mention of ozark, it rings a bell! So I checked and I did start watching that ages ago, watched about 6 episodes of season 1, I remember I had no idea what was going on, seemed boring and then stopped watching it. I feel like I should give it a second chance..

I'm thinking I might revisit this also, iirc I watched about 2 episodes but I wasn't sure about it and I have much more time now, also there is going to be less on telly now as new shows aren't being made so time to revisit some

Darkest and most mumbly programme for me has been The Handmaids Tale on channel 4.
