AIBU to think this twitter craze is really unhelpful

There's a recent craze, sweeping twitter where people are sharing their Amazon wishlist with everyone using a certain hashtag. The idea is to spread cheer by buying stuff for random strangers and they do the same back.
With Amazon saying they are struggling to fulfill orders and trying to concentrate on essentials, and delivery men working all hours isn't this rather unhelpful? I could order 6 things I need, or I could order 6 things, for 6 people, which would then be all separate deliveries. And someone posted that they got the same thing twice, from 2 people, this morning. What a waste.

I thought it was an influencer/vlogger thing to cheer each other because things are hard for the self-employed/freelancers?

They may live alone so be in need of "contact"

I get your point about not using Amazon unnecessarily though

Headbangersandmash · 02/05/2020 19:47

Is it possible that these items are from small businesses who need the money rather than Amazon itself?

HollowTalk · 02/05/2020 19:50

Oooh I've just seen a Coach handbag I like.... #amazonwishlist.

HoomanMoomin · 02/05/2020 19:57

I would understand if they were items people can’t afford, but these lists are ridiculous. £1 multipack of mentos, anyone?Hmm
Anyone who will order something like that, even just to be nice, didn’t understand what the lockdown is about.

I’ve bought a few things on wishlists for a few small non profits/charities - things like packs of envelopes, essentials etc, just to help keep them going

A couple of my younger relatives are obsessed with this. They must have spent a fortune. I don't get it. If you're lucky enough to have spare cash, treat yourself or your friends, not strangers off the internet! I agree with you regarding the delivery staff too.
