Neighbours keep using our bins!!

Now, I know this is definitely a first world problem, but it’s a problem nonetheless.

A few months ago the council changed bin collections to alternate weeks (general rubbish one week, recycling the next).

Our next door neighbour (we don’t know them well, but will say a polite hello - it’s London, to give some context!) are a family of 5. There is just the 2 of us (plus 2 cats) but we are still finding, with the alternate collections, we fill the bins to capacit.

The past couple of weeks I’ve noticed recycling waste that’s definitely NOT ours in our bin. I can see the neighbours one is full and our bins are kept in a passageway next to eachother (no others, and numbers are painted on them).

This has annoyed me a lot - we tend to keep our recycling in a box and take it out in stages - and given we are both at home 24/7 during this lockdown we do fill to capacity.

I’ve moved our bins down the passageway to behind our garden gate in the hope that sends the message. However, they also have a garden gate so I’m not entirely sure this will end the matter!

AIBU to be pissed off about this? I know from the council leaflets that as a large family they can apply for larger bins but clearly haven’t bothered. They just think they can use ours instead!

This happens to us too, I am generally easy going and calm but it makes my blood boil. I have moved the bins to my back gate and hope it helps.

This pisses me off too. I dont mind my neighbours putting the odd bag in my bin on bin day if it isnt full, especially at the moment as DD is living with her dad during lockdown so theres only me creating rubbish in my household and the bin is rarely full. However, our bins get collected on Thursdays and I went to put some rubbish out this morning on the way to work and there was already a full binbag in there taking up half the space Angry.

It was pretty easy to figure out who (theres 4 flats in my building and all the bins are stored together) as one bin was already full despite only being two days past bin day so I just took the rubbish out and put it on their bin. If it returns to my bin before Thursday I will be knocking on the neighbour's door and telling them that I will report them (my building and all flats are owned by a private housing company so we all have the same landlord) if it continues.
