Running tops

I am fairly well endowed of nork, although loss of weight has reduced them from 38DD to 36C, but I am finding it very hard to find a reasonably priced crop top for running.

I want a crop top rather than a bra because I often strip off to just the top, and don't want to look as though all my clothes have fallen off due to the speed of my passing - I want to look reasonably covered.

But. ALL of the tops I have found that keep my 36 inch norks firmly contained enough that they don't swing around and knock out passers by, have teeny tiny little cups which, by the end of the run, have inched up my boobage and lodged themselves around my nipples. Also have no stitching to keep said boobage separate, and therefore I am running with a unitit.

Anyone else have this problem? AIBU to believe that I should be able to buy a reasonably priced running top?

*highlighted because someone always comes on and recommends some running gear supplier who will charge me £150,000 for a top that could stop a Sherman tank.

Sorry but unless you are pretty flat chested you should wear a good running bra for running, not a crop top....cover it with a lovely yoga type crop top by all means though!

SweatyBetty stamina bras are crop top style and provide medium control though. Not enough imo for running but may fit your requirements!

sleepwhenidie · 02/05/2020 10:38

Just read-Reading and think the stamina bra would also give you the unitit effect. I think what you are looking for (a running bra with cup separation, that looks like a crop top) doesn’t actually exist - there’s a reason Smile

TeaAndASitDown · 02/05/2020 10:39

Can you get a good running bra and then wear a sports crop top over it?

Teabaseddiet · 02/05/2020 10:41

Agree with others - running bra with crop top over. I like sturdy by design bra tops/leggings.

Macncheeseballs · 02/05/2020 10:42

I wear a sports bra under a supported gym/running vest. No movement there. But there is no way I strip off to a crop top in public any ways. Not sure why anyone would have to

BobbinThreadbare123 · 02/05/2020 10:43

Nahhh, strap them down. I am a 32HH and those puppies are encased in two bras for exercise. I don't care too much about the monotit. If I didn't engineer my support, I'd have my own eye out. Not worth the sagging potential.

Sirzy · 02/05/2020 10:47

I lot of decent running bras are suitable for running in just them anyway (not that I would!) because they are substantial

Ronnie27 · 02/05/2020 10:51

I agree you need a properly fitted bra to run in but I wear something like this over the top, might be an option. I’m a 30F and tops with fitted cups are always all wrong for me too so I feel your pain! Grin

I’m 28E cup so pretty well endowed and run a lot. Under Armour training infinity, figleaves fuller bust wired sports bra and nike training rival high support keep them in place and look decent. TBH though i find a loose cropped t shirt over the top creates a breeze and keeps the sun off my shoulders - it’s actually cooler than just running in a crop!

Crocky · 02/05/2020 11:00

Could I just ask what size clothes you wear? From your description I’d hazard a guess that you are wearing the wrong size bra.

Zaphodsotherhead · 02/05/2020 11:45

I'm a size 10, Crocky and my boobs have gone as far south as they are going, at the age of 59 and having breastfed five kids! So they are loose and floppy, not full and pert.

I don't wear a 'crop top' as such, they are proper running tops. And I don't mind the unitit so much (although the sweatage is something cruel), I just want something that doesn't ride up my boobs!

I sometimes wear a running bra under a running shirt, but when I do a bit of a 'cool down walk' I like to get as much sun as this country as to offer on my body, hence the stripping down.

Is second what Crocky is suggesting though, have you been on the bra size threads and checked size? 36 anything doesn’t sound quite right with size10...although size 10 is of course highly variable!

TeaAndHobnob · 02/05/2020 11:49

I mean this in the nicest way but are you sure you are wearing the right size bra?

I'm a 12 and wear a 34 band, sometimes a 32 depending on fit. There's no way a size 10 person should be wearing a 36, just no way. A smaller band size & larger cup size might solve your fit issues?

sleepwhenidie · 02/05/2020 11:50

And that would also explain the band riding up....

LuvMyBoyz · 02/05/2020 11:52

Try Eleni Running tops. I’m 38GG and their size 3 is excellent. Been using them for 10 years. Oprah Winfrey reportedly uses them, too.

LuvMyBoyz · 02/05/2020 11:55

Enell! Sorry.

PhoneLock · 02/05/2020 11:56

I just strip off and don't worry about it. My sports bras are presentable.

geekone · 02/05/2020 11:56

Have a look at under armour. They have tops that are round necked and no sleeves and pretty much slashed from armpit to waist which should keep you cool and allow you to wear a sports bra.

LuckyDiesel · 02/05/2020 12:06

I’m not quite as well endowed as you are, but look at Queenie-ke on Amazon. I love their kit and I find them much more supportive than any other brand

Zaphodsotherhead · 02/05/2020 12:13

Thank you everyone for the input!

I am deffo a 36C. I am 90% boob at the moment and look like an advanced climbing hazard. The band rides up because I'm wearing S/M running tops from Cotton On (I bought them in Oz) and the size is fine to keep my boobs strapped down but the front size (there aren't really 'cups' as such) is too small. If I go up a size to allow for the cups, then the fit isn't tight enough to stop everything flopping about!

I'll give the advised brands a look. I've got plenty of tops, racing back T shirts etc, it's the support/bra top I'm trying to find. One that isn't purely cosmetic as so many seem to be (I run run, not, as some manufacturers seem to think, standing around posing). I need firm support! Not so bothered about the bolster-boob look if I just get tops that fit and stop the floppage!

Crocky · 02/05/2020 13:34

I’m a size 10 and a 28 band 😁

Zaphodsotherhead · 02/05/2020 13:38

I wonder if it's a difference in the sizing of bras and running tops? Bras have to give you room to move and don't need to hold everything quite as tight as running tops?

My bras are 36C and very comfy.

My running tops are M and ride up my nipples. Although I do have one proper running bra which is a 36D (the size I was before I lost weight) which is okay and doesn't creep up, but then it has proper cups and everything. But if I run in it and take my T shirt off I feel like I'm standing in my underwear, which I don't get if I'm wearing a unitit top.

I should point out that I'm trying to maximise my Vit D intake which is why I'm prancing around without my top on. Also, very very rural, not many likely to see me. Just one or two.

Triumph sports bras are incredible
And could work as a crop top

ifyoulikepinacolada · 02/05/2020 15:12

I agree with the PPs - check out the bra intervention threads on here, it’s v unlikely you’re a 36 band at a size 10!

TeaAndHobnob · 02/05/2020 16:35

I wear really thin loose vest tops over my sports bra - I think the extra material helps cool you down by flapping about!

I'm a 34D and there isn't a bra top/crop top on earth that is supportive enough for running without a proper sports bra. I don't know what you've tried but I have just resigned myself now to spending £££ on ultimate run bras. They are slightly uniboob but they do give you a bit of shape.
