Do I need to go to hospital?!

Pregnantandoversick · 02/05/2020 08:26

Put on AIBU for more traffic.

Had 3 hospital admissions for hyperemesis so far, I am 11 weeks.

Havent kept any food down at all in 5 days now, but keeping more fluids down.
Still vomiting excessively.

Called 111 the other day and they sent paramedics round, who pinched the back of my hand as a dehydration test and told me I was fine, that I could stay at home.

I've never felt this weak in my life.barely have the energy to crawl out of bed and go to the loo. Going up and down stairs takes it out of me completely.

So would I be unreasonable for calling 111 back and asking for a hospital admission? I think I need serious fluids and anti sickness via IV as it's just not staying in me orally.

YABU- dont call, stay at home, see if it improves
YANBU- call and ask for admission

Personally I’d just go to A and E if you’re feeling that unwell. Sounds like you need to be on an IV.

Stuffofawesome · 02/05/2020 08:27

Do call you need to be seen

CeeCeeEnnEss · 02/05/2020 08:27

Call the MAC (maternity assessment centre) at your hospital and see what they say?

Karwomannghia · 02/05/2020 08:28

I think you should be seen. Can you get in touch with your midwife first though?

cabinfever2 · 02/05/2020 08:28

Yanbu call them

Starduststatic · 02/05/2020 08:28

Do you have a contact for your midwife or midwife unit? I would contact them first, yes it sounds like you do need some additional support, accessing it without their back up might be challenging at the moment. But no, don't suffer.

Pregnantandoversick · 02/05/2020 08:29

Thank you, I will call 111 soon. Unfortunately it means going to a hospital in a different town as the maternity unit in my town has closed to make way for more coronavirus patients

Oh poor you. It’s so hellish. Have you tried ondansatron?

Pregnantandoversick · 02/05/2020 08:32

Am currently on ondansatron but it's not making much difference

nauseaandnipples · 02/05/2020 08:34

You poor thing. It really does sound like you need to be seen.

ScarlettDarling · 02/05/2020 08:34

You need to seek advice. We keep being told that the NHS is still open for non Covid issues. This could be dangerous, you need help.

thejoysofboys · 02/05/2020 08:34

Sounds horrific. Yes I’d phone them again.
My only other tip would be to sip “beef tea” (oxo cubes made up with hot water, or bovril), or make ice cubes with orange juice to suck to that you do get salts & vitamins in some form. It will really help

Toomanyapplesinthefruitbowl · 02/05/2020 08:34

I’d ring the early pregnancy unit at your local hospital and see what they say? I imagine they’ll want to jest your ketones and assess whether you need hydration on the back of that.

Sending you sympathy - HG was the worst I have ever felt in my life

Lougle · 02/05/2020 08:36

Perhaps see if you can be prescribed buccal prochlorperazine (Buccastem). It goes between your lip and your gum and dissolves through your gum.

OrganTransplant123 · 02/05/2020 08:38

You definitely need to go back in. Once you are hydrated then they can start again looking at what combination of drugs you need. I ended up on ondansatron and something else- I can’t remember the name but it was meant to speed up your digestion. It wasn’t miraculous. I still vomited at least once a day until birth but it lifted the nausea.

Are you nibbling crisps, ritz crackers, trying different drinks? Obviously the drugs are the main thing but avoiding an empty stomach does help.

Pregnantandoversick · 02/05/2020 08:40

Epau unit is closed in my town now:/
I think my hydration levels are okay as I'm keeping more liquids down than the last admissions, but not eating and still being sick constantly is making me feel so incredibly shit.

Sorry for the drip feed, I have prochlorperazine and a fair few other anti sickness meds, nothing is working or staying in my system though

Please call the midwife or our of hours gp and ask for advice. Flowers

Pregnantandoversick · 02/05/2020 08:41

Have frozen ice lollies and sugary squash, any solid food just comes straight back up though

AllianceOfCorcles · 02/05/2020 08:44

You need to be seen please go in

guiltandchocolate · 02/05/2020 08:45

Have you been given steroids alongside the ondansetron? It’s what I was given
Also not sure where you are but some hospitals have direct access FSH units for hyperemesis you can be in and out in a few hours they just hook you up to the drip as soon as you get there x

guiltandchocolate · 02/05/2020 08:45

Not sure why there’s an FSH in there ....🤣

MrsHoolie · 02/05/2020 08:46

You poor thing OP. I had just normal morning sickness (all day) and that was bad enough. I can’t imagine how terrible HG is for people.
Hope you get the help you need.

Ponoka7 · 02/05/2020 08:50

It isn't just about hydration. You need a urine sample for ketones to start with. Can you phone the unit directly? Or have you got a midwives contact number?

PrivateD00r · 02/05/2020 08:50

You cannot ring 111 and request an admission, you go to A&E. You might not even need admitted, they may be able to do bloods and if necessary give you IV fluids there. Go now, don't waste time ringing to request admission, honestly that just isn't how it works!

Seahawk80 · 02/05/2020 08:50

Don't feel guilty - you need to be seen. I found a lump on my chest and had a telephone appointment with GP who sent me straight to the nearest surgery that was open to be seen. Luckily it was fine but she was adamant that I should be seen and that the NHS is absolutely still there for those who need it, not just corona.
