How come everyone on MN is 'rural'?

I'm not rural

Confused
OP posts:
ViciousJackdaw · 01/05/2020 22:43

I'm not rural, I live in a terraced house off the High Street and it's bloody great!

Giggorata · 01/05/2020 22:44

I'm rural too. In a village, 6 miles from the nearest town and buses once a week, on market day.

MsAwesomeDragon · 01/05/2020 22:46

I live in a small city, but I work in a school where a lot of the kids are rural. They commute on school buses because the only public bus that goes through their villages are on a Tuesday for market day lol. I teach a lot of farmers kids. To be fair it's probably about half of the kids that should be described as rural, the other half come from a market town which has a regular bus service and a train station.

Not me, I live in a city in Scotland, in a gentrified rough bit

JamesNesbittsBrows · 01/05/2020 22:50

I'm rural and I love it! Not remote though. 10 minutes from a city.

I always think everyone on here is London.

Al1Langdownthecleghole · 01/05/2020 22:50

I know of people from E2 who moved to the country. They meant Loughton in Essex.

Some people’s idea of rural means the end of the central line.

I'm semi rural, live on a bridle way, no tarmac, next to a field of animals. Nearest train station and town is 8 miles away, I love it as I can run there across the fields . Teenagers hate being in the middle of nowhere though and they are not sensible .

nancyjuice7 · 01/05/2020 22:53

Semi rural
No Uber, no just eats, shit signal. Good 25 min walk to the hourly bus stop.
I walk out my front door 10 steps left and into fields for miles. Equally turn right it's only 10 mins drive into a market town with a train station.

I do identify with rural issues but also with town folk.

I like to call it the best of both worlds Wink

TheMostHappy · 01/05/2020 22:53

I'm not rural. I'm suburban. Nearly rural but definitely very much suburban.

SonjaMorgan · 01/05/2020 22:55

I always think the majority on here live in London. I am one of the rural people. We have a bus every few hours in the day, a small village shop with post office inside.

FunnysInLaJardin · 01/05/2020 22:56

Well we are rural. Live in a hamlet of about 5 houses, 45 mins walk from the local village and bus stop. Tis fine but rural Grin

FunnysInLaJardin · 01/05/2020 22:57

and sorry my teen is sensible! Although missing school and his mates

msmith501 · 01/05/2020 22:58

I am - 1899s village cottage - probably a mill or farm workers originally - in the North West.

mindutopia · 01/05/2020 22:59

Definitely rural. Live on a farm in a hamlet of about 10 people. But also oddly work in Central London (it’s a looong commute!).

JoeExoticsTiger · 01/05/2020 22:59

I live a rural Home Counties village with fields to the back of us... it’s heaven!

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 01/05/2020 22:59

Central London.

FlamingoAndJohn · 01/05/2020 23:08

Thing is it’s a self selecting group.

The only people who are going to post on a thread like this are people who want to say they are rural and do you have a problem with that and people saying they live in a flat.
It’s the same with threads about walkers for example. The only people who will post on that are people who have walkers go past the end of their garden.

I live in the suburbs. No one ever admits to that.

ErrolTheDragon · 01/05/2020 23:09

I live in a village, it's rural though we're not far from the outskirts of a city.
The first time I ever went to the (now closed) village shop I was mugged by a goat...

I think the OP is suddenly noticing the minority of rural posters because our ability to take long massively socially distanced walks is now a matter of envy.

PositiveVibez · 01/05/2020 23:09

I thought everyone lived in a very expensive yet tiny flat in London, but totally worth it "because of the museums

😂😂

I'm one of them Oop North where I can get more for my money on a miniscule salary.

I actually live in a 4 bedroom detached with a mercedes and room for a pony. My mortgage is £225 a month.

Osirus · 01/05/2020 23:14

We’re semi-rural. Our house is directly opposite a National Park and farmland.

We also own a 4x4 (but we do own our own forest so I assume that’s allowed Grin).

Justajot · 01/05/2020 23:17

What are the options though? Urban, suburban & rural?

I live in a big village. It isn't urban, it isn't the outskirts of a town, so not suburban, but I don't think it really matches my idea of rural. I think of rural as being nothing for miles around. We are surrounded by houses in all directions. It is different to my suburban upbringing. So I think it is the lack of categories.

CrocodileFrock · 01/05/2020 23:18

Everyone on MN who has a teenage child always describes them as “sensible”

And MN teenagers are always "sporty" and "growing like a weed".

Sparklingbrook · 01/05/2020 23:20

No sportiness or growing like a weed here. He's over 6 ft but I didn't really notice when that happened. Grin
