Movinghouseatlast · 01/05/2020 22:15

Yes I really do live in the countryside. What is the problem?

Woeismethischristmas · 01/05/2020 22:15

Im rural, pretty but boring, hence all the mumsnetting.

opticaldelusion · 01/05/2020 22:15

It's a place of extremes.

autumnmum · 01/05/2020 22:15

I'm rural and I have never used an Uber or Just Eat (but my teens are annoying)

mayawaya · 01/05/2020 22:15

Your choice, what is your point?

BadJanetsMobile · 01/05/2020 22:15

I can see the manchester skyline when im out walking the dog...not rural

HeadOfTheCongaLine · 01/05/2020 22:17

I thought everyone lived in a very expensive yet tiny flat in London, but totally worth it "because of the museums" Wink
From recent threads, all seem to work in an office and earn £80k+

Lucygucy · 01/05/2020 22:18

If we walk 10 minutes in the right direction we can get into fields, woods and public footpaths where you can walk for 10 miles and only cross country lanes.
However we live on the edge of a very large housing estate which then runs into other estates all the way to a medium size town. We do only have 1 bus an hour though and it's only run after 7pm in the last 3 years.
I don't class myself as rural but I can see how some could claim it as such.

sestras · 01/05/2020 22:19

I wasn't but now I am.

TowerRingInferno · 01/05/2020 22:21

We are rural. 5 miles from nearest (small) town

Mumof2bears · 01/05/2020 22:21

I live in a village on the edge of an old university city in East Anglia. Village has good community feel and it's only 15 mins drive (on a good day!) into the city but 5 mins in other directions certainly feels rural.

ScatteredMama82 · 01/05/2020 22:25

We really are rural 😆 little village with 3 buses a day. Surrounded by farmland.

Dullardmullard · 01/05/2020 22:28

semi rural

1 mile away from the village 3 miles to the nearest town works for us.

I don't have a husband that earns 1K though and I don't stay at home either. Well I do the now but not usually.

my teenagers where just that teenagers that I'd of love to strangle at times but we waved that storm

CharlottaCarlotta · 01/05/2020 22:29

The ones who are not rural all have parking problems though.

Violetparis · 01/05/2020 22:29

Suburb of Manchester here.

MoonBaby1 · 01/05/2020 22:30

scattleredmama hark at you with your three buses a day Grin. We’d be so lucky!

HeretoThereandBackAgain · 01/05/2020 22:30

I’m in rural America - I live in woodland. We get bears, elk and bobcats wandering through regularly. Nearest bus stop is six miles away. Beyond the woods are working ranches and horse properties. I’m about 20 minutes drive to a decent sized city. I do have a 4x4, because winter is seven months long and we get huge snowfalls - 15+ inches in 24 hours is not unusual.

I’ve lived in all sorts of places - remote island, new town, medieval village, various cities including London. They all have advantages and disadvantages imo.

lesbihonest · 01/05/2020 22:31

I live in a wee village - nearest city 30 miles, town 10 miles . One shop. Fifteen miles of unspoilt fields from my bedroom window and the North Sea from the front window ... absolute bliss just now .

SueEllenMishke · 01/05/2020 22:32

Define rural....
We've only just got Uber and justeat but they're very hit and miss. I can't get a dominoes delivery which in the current situation is hitting me hard!
There is public transport but it would take me about 2 hours to get to work if I used it.
We have a co-op, a shit load of pubs in and fields as far as the eye can see.

underneaththeash · 01/05/2020 22:34

I think you notice people whose views are the polar opposite to your own.
I remember during the election that I couldn’t believe the amount of people who were voting for JC.
I now notice the people who are unreasonably scared of the virus, who are white young and have no underlying health conditions and who don’t want kids to go back to school or them to

PenCreed · 01/05/2020 22:35

I live in London now but grew up in a Scottish town. My dad grew up on a Croft on the west coast of the Highlands - even they had neighbours within a mile!

SuperFurryDoggy · 01/05/2020 22:36

I’m genuinely rural, as in I live in an unnamed hamlet miles from the nearest village. However, we have a dual carriageway close by and are a 35 minute drive from the outskirts of the nearest city, where many people commute to work.

In normal life those people might be in their offices, popping into pret for lunch, etc. Now they are confined to their houses. Even people like me who work from home are used to popping in for shopping/theatre/children’s activities once a week.

Many probably didn’t feel all that rural until this moment.

altiara · 01/05/2020 22:39

I’m not rural. Also thought everyone was in London as it makes me laugh people say take public transport. I live in a big town not hugely far from London and public transport is not brilliant, better in some parts of the town than others.
Maybe as we’re in lockdown, the rural posters are now telling people where they live.

Unworthie · 01/05/2020 22:42

I’ve noticed a lot of posters who say they live in flats; that doesn’t sound very rural.

I live in a flat. In the North Yorkshire Moors National Park. And I have a big garden 😊 old shop split into two flats 🤷
Small village, surrounded by fields. Village pub, church and a farm shop/tea room.
20 min walk to nearest town with shop.
2 buses an hour normally until about 8pm then one until 10pm. One an hour at the moment and on Sunday/bank hol until 8pm.
But, the main road through the village (and many others like it) is the only one between the two major towns in the area (half an hour from both) so the road's busy most of the time.
Could walk to the beach in 30 mins one way and the Moors the other.
Semi rural I suppose?

justanotherneighinparadise · 01/05/2020 22:42

I suppose I might use the word rural when what I really mean is stuck in a shit village with zero amenities.
