Does it work? What’s it all about? I can’t work out what they do, bar lots of smiley people saying it works on psychology. I’m reluctant to sign up for their 14 day free trial, as these things aren’t really ‘free’ are they?

I looked at it, and at some reviews. I read that it’s incredibly difficult to leave / end your subscription so haven’t bothered.

Place marking as I'd love to know myself.

I did a months trial and my opinion of it is its very american. It uses happy clappy american motivational messages, and also all its data base is 80% american foods, which makes it hard to log your food with them.
I think it is massively overpriced too.
Id recommend myfitnesspal instead which has been around for years. Is basically what noom is based on, but is more international and has all the uk foods, plus is either free with ads or still a fraction of the price of noom if you pay for the premium version.
It doesnt have the sugary motivational messages though, but in my opinion its much better

I’m doing Noom!
I’m on my fourth week now. I did the free trial and then it was £109 for six months. Seemed reasonable to me, but I have spent a lot of money on ‘weight loss’ over the years.
It really appeals to me as I am a perfectionist and I like to complete every daily task 😂
I was doing my fitness pal, but kept going off track at weekends. I have stuck to this every single day for a month which is pretty amazing progress for me. Down about a stone so far (3 more to go).
It is very American - I am in a group now with other people at the same stage as me, I am the only non-American so I do feel a bit out of the loop on that front.
I haven’t had a problem with the food logging, it’s pretty easy to add stuff if it’s not on there.
The psychology stuff is really hitting home for me, so in my opinion it’s pretty good. Better than slimming world groups which is a similar price.

I did the free trial, set a reminder in my phone and then cancelled. It did work as made me more aware of was eating ( you log it) and it knocks it of your calorie count each day, track your weight. But the communication is via a bot and the recipes are all American, which made the cost not worth carrying on. If the recipes were Uk ingredients I would have carried on if I could afford it.

HattieMid2 · 01/05/2020 21:14

Yes I agree with your point about the recipes, I haven’t used them at all. Can’t get my head around the ‘cups’ measurements! Just give me the grams! Haha.
I read loads of reviews before I signed up and loads said about the bot communication. I don’t know if they’ve changed it but my ‘coach’ seems like a real person. But maybe I’m easily fooled 😂

SpoonBlender · 01/05/2020 21:22

Use the free MyFitnessPal first. If that doesn't help you then do you think having a pay-for motivational thing will? In which case try Noom.

Money for old rope if you ask me.

Cherrysoup · 01/05/2020 21:28

Grams! Lord, give me ounces! I actually have a set of cups, I think from when the dh was making American pancakes.

The logging of food is annoying but I liked the red yellow green categories

Cherrysoup · 01/05/2020 21:40

Yellow green? Like red and green on Slimming World? I actually found logging food and exercise was really helpful when I lost a lot of weight, but I was very active then, hardly at all now. 😳

I had a look but I thought it was too American and expensive. I've lost weight during lockdown anyway as I'm not eating from boredom any more.

GooodMythicalMorning · 01/05/2020 23:54

just use the free bit! I lost 6 stone just doing that bit.

justchecking1 · 01/05/2020 23:55

I'm on day 9 of the free trial. I can't decide whether it's worth the money or not. You don't get to try out any of the coaching or the forums during the trial, and I think these will the bits I like, but you can't tell without signing up.

How do people find the coaching/forum parts? What do you actually get?

HerRoyalNotness · 01/05/2020 23:58

I did 3mths and didn’t lose anything. It was easy to unsubscribe, I just said my head wasn’t in it. A friend did 3 months and got to her goal weight. She’s quite a disciplined person. I would work depending on your personality.

MulticolourMophead · 02/05/2020 00:05

I'm donig it and I'm finding it's working for me, have lost 8lbs in 3 weeks.

You can add recipes and foods to you list, and also change the measurements if necessary.

I'm giving it a go until the end of my first paid period then I'll evaluate. 2 weeks free trial wasn't long enough for me. I've currently got a few Americans, a South African, an Ozzie and a French person in my group, and the chat has been interesting.

lonelySam · 02/05/2020 00:24

I've done it for three months and I am down 1 1/2 stone. It really does work on psychology side of the losing weight and has been fine for me. Coaching and groups are American based and it feels a bit like HR objectives at work.
