Previously parental leave accepted - now cancelled

I’d booked a week unpaid parental leave for later in the year but my manager is now saying they’ll have to ‘find out’ whether I can still have it.
No real reason except for the fact I won’t be around that week and so I won’t be productive (obviously).

I applied for this in January and am only now being told this may be an issue.

Can they cancel it? I thought that they had 7 days to come back to me if the date isn’t suitable?

That can't cancel it but they can ask you postpone it if they have a specific legitimate business reason. Just because you wouldn't be available is not a business reason, however the reason they need you to be available might be.

If you're an ICU nurse then its understandable that it might have to be withdrawn

No it's not understandable in this situation. Unless you think it's reasonable for itu nurses to continue working during probably the most stressful time of their professional career, without a break. I'm glad the trust where I work recognises the importance of prioritising staff wellbeing and is honouring all leave

With normal leave, your employer can cancel it giving either the same length of time, or double as notice
I cant remember if its same or double, might be the same

So if you have booked a week off, they can cancel with a weeks notice
