To want to sell up and buy this house by the sea?

caramara · 01/05/2020 13:40

Lockdown boredom has set in and started looking for somewhere to buy with what I could roughly have in equity if I sold my house.

I know Jaywick is a bit rough (I'm the opposite side of Essex currently so know the area a little) but still, can it really be that bad? The idea of being mortgage free is quite appealing, and the house looks like it requires no work at all, plus I love the kitchen.

And I could walk to the beach!

the house

Please tell me I'm BU/ point out all the faults with my plan!

I don’t know jaywick but I’ve googled it and it’s says it’s Britain’s most deprived town, no shops and says the houses are crumbling away. From that description alone I can see why that house is so cheap. I wouldn’t OP.

I saw the Jaywick programme, and it did look a bit depressing down there, But was shown to have some good community spirited people living there. It would not suit a lot of people who write on here, for various reasons. But some people are not bothered about a so called perfect place, and I am one of those types.

You need to give things a lot of thought, and if you are really personally swayed toward the house and area, then just go for it.

vanillandhoney · 01/05/2020 14:05

Google Jaywick Sands. None of the photos on the first page of Google look remotely appealing.

You can buy a house for 140k in plenty of nicer parts of the country!

NoAdventureNoTime · 01/05/2020 14:07

Unless you had 20foot walls all the way round the property, you'd be broken into regularly sadly.

I'm actually surprised anything would even have so high a price tag in Jaywick. And that doesn't even get you the sea views.

However the beach is nice, but still...

AnyFucker · 01/05/2020 14:08

There is a body under that purple bedcover

ChicChicChicChiclana · 01/05/2020 14:10

What is on the floor by the bath in picture 12?

Jaywick isn't just "not perfect" - it's the most deprived area in the country!

airedailleurs · 01/05/2020 14:11

As other PP have said, research Jaywick first online and then in person when you can.

Fluffybutter · 01/05/2020 14:12

Oh my god ,no! Jaywick is a shithole !
The house is scruffy too ... and tiny

ChicChicChicChiclana · 01/05/2020 14:13

Sorry, picture 11.

Msmcc1212 · 01/05/2020 14:14

Give it 20 years it will be under water with sea level rises Hmm

ZaraW · 01/05/2020 14:14

Never in a million years would I choose to live there.

NoddingTulip · 01/05/2020 14:15

No way would I choose to live in that area. Even if the house was in a different area, it is very pokey and the rooms are too narrow. As a minimum I'd be wanting to knock the living area through into bedroom 2, too open it up a bit. Bathrooms are tiny and I'd want at least one to have a decent bath in it..... what's with the one in the red bathroom? It's very weird.
Agree with PP the units on one wall in the kitchen look like morgue fridges.

georgialondon · 01/05/2020 14:16

You can't have seen those tv programmes! No way.

caramara · 01/05/2020 14:17

I didn't think the house was that small, the room sizes are similar to 3 beds round here. I honestly thought it was lovely.

The only 3 or more bed places I can find for under 150k are in need of loads of work, even those much further away (I've looked all round the south, and as far north of me as Lincolnshire).

Are you the vendor, OP? I can’t fathom any other reason for wanting to move into that house in that area, of all the houses for sale all over the country.

undercoveraessedai · 01/05/2020 14:18

Nope. Absolutely nope. The beach in that direction is glorious but the area terrifies me. I'm a 20 minute drive away and that suits me - best of both worlds! OP could you look slightly further inland where you're still closeish to the coast? Or further up like Brightlingsea maybe?

vanillandhoney · 01/05/2020 14:19

Do you need three bedrooms if you have no DC living at home?

AJPTaylor · 01/05/2020 14:19

Look elsewhere.

BeenHereForAges · 01/05/2020 14:21

We saw this place on a programme years ago.
Made a mental note never to go there.

Shoxfordian · 01/05/2020 14:21

That house would need the same amount spending on it and you'd still be living in a shithole

Queenunikitty · 01/05/2020 14:23

mersea or brightlingsea is better surely

SoapIsYourFriend · 01/05/2020 14:24

£140k? ShockShock

caramara · 01/05/2020 14:24

3 beds - room for me, one for student DC (at least for the foreseeable will have a room here) and another as a study cum spare room so I can work from home.

I'm definitely not the vendor. Just watched too many programmes about people selling up and going mortgage free, but I think they probably have a bigger budget than I do.

Tiny living room. You can sit on n the sofa and see the dining area. You wouldn’t be able to watch tv with the washing machine on.

Is that mouldy Astro terf out the back? Tiny garden. The purple throw bedroom is small. They must have to duck under the tv to walk to the ensuite.

Who would sleep in the downstairs bedrooms? Just seen bedroom 1 with the purple throw & ensuite is right next to the kitchen.
