For me, it's 'and rightly so'. It sounds so bloody sanctimonious and grammatically it just feels wrong! 😡

OP posts:
piperatthegates · 10/05/2020 23:35

No one has mentioned my pet peeve yet. When posters say something 'needs done'. No it 'needs to be done' it makes me cringe every time I read it.

DeeCeeCherry · 11/05/2020 00:57

'batshit crazy'. What does 'batshit' have to do with anything? I have never ever heard anyone use this phrase in real life

NameChange84 · 11/05/2020 09:47

@DeeCeeCherry I don’t think I’ve used “batshit crazy” on MN or in person but I’ve certainly heard it a lot in person. I think it’s been around as a phrase since the middle of the last century.

In terms of why “batshit” is used as an adjective; the excrement of bats contains a fungus which can infect the human brain, causing them to become psychotic.

Oilyoilyoilgob · 11/05/2020 10:01

That ‘fuck the fuck and off and fuck off some more’ one. Detest this, it’s like someone’s trying to be hard and smug and they just sound an annoying twat.

Sanpro

I woke the baby laughing

Actually there’s loads I can think of, lots of sayings annoy me on here 😁 Most of the time I’m thinking ‘you can’t speak like this in real life surely’

trixiebelden77 · 11/05/2020 10:08

‘Blue lighted to hospital’.

Usually meant to imply poster was seconds from death. So melodramatic.

TobyDeLaris · 11/05/2020 10:10

Not specific to Mumsnet but "a new normal" is a bit irritating

madamedesevigne · 11/05/2020 10:12

“It’s a no from me”

Ipadipod · 11/05/2020 10:16

Cockwomble, twatbadger etc, I imagine someone sitting in front of their keyboard feeling ‘a bit naughty ‘ for using a rude word, just call them a cunt and be done with it !

TobyDeLaris · 11/05/2020 10:20

I don't like it when someone starts talking to another poster about someone else on the thread rather than addressing the person they are bitching about directly.
It's like bitching on the phone about someone who's nearby and can hear!

Hellothere19999 · 11/05/2020 10:26

I hate all the acronyms. Darling partner, darling child 🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤮 gross. Also everyone seems to be a judgemental prick but I read it for the lolz.

EarlGreyT · 11/05/2020 13:25

Dippy eggs, aargh, say soft boiled eggs

Agreed. I hate the term dippy eggs.

ThisIsNotARealAvo · 12/05/2020 09:41

When people start with "Ooooh" as in "Oooh, shiny new thread" or "Oooh can I have the recipe for that?". Sounds silly.

Singinghollybob · 12/05/2020 10:05

What fresh hell is this..
When he tells you who he is, listen
That doesn't work for us/this works for us

Singinghollybob · 12/05/2020 10:06

narcissistic ex/mother/father etc etc.

penberrh · 12/05/2020 10:12

That doesn’t work for me
(a friend said this once and it sounded incredibly rude but I knew she’d got it from MN so just raised my eyebrows)

Now
As in:
Ambulance. Now.
Police. Now.

derxa · 12/05/2020 10:17

That doesn’t work for me And the equally wanky 'It works for us'
A clear implication of superiority.

penberrh · 12/05/2020 10:18

Also: I’m going to Aldi- what should I buy?

Just buy some fucking food! And, if you fancy it, an angle grinder/trumpet/deep-sea-diving outfit or whatever else they might have in the Aisles of Randomness that week.

Chocolateandamaretto · 12/05/2020 10:21

Vile.

Generally overused all over the bloody internet!

mrsBtheparker · 12/05/2020 10:33

Not a dig at you OP but 'getting on my wick' drives me up the wall for some reason

I was just about to post that 'getting on my wick' is something I haven't heard since my Dad died 30+ years ago, made me feel quite emotional!

Iamthe1andonlyyyyy · 12/05/2020 10:34

'Being subject to the Male gaze'

Ok some bloke dared to look at you

HappyDinosaur · 12/05/2020 10:36

I find some people can be a bit rude but try to hide it by saying things like 'Or did you think that ...'

KuckFnows · 12/05/2020 10:37

Are you on glue

derxa · 12/05/2020 10:58

'Myself and DP' I do judge... Grin

PeskyRooks · 12/05/2020 11:01

Shits and giggles..I don't get it?!

Toothsil · 12/05/2020 11:16

It was a dick move
I couldn't get worked up about it
