In the process of separating from miserable husband. I’ve realised that I am not the reason for his unhappiness and I cannot live like this anymore. Two kids, one turns two soon and one will hopefully get a space at grammar in 2021.I don’t know what budget is but Solicitor wants to make a claim for 600 K. How realistic this is, I don’t know. So I am thinking if we get half of that Id be super happy. My Family live in Fleetwood, Lancs so need to be close to there, but also in catchment for Lancaster Girls Grammar and a good back up secondary. Budget GBP 200 K to 300 K ? A lovely garden and a home with a happy vibe.. How realistic are divorce solicitor’s estimations ?!?

Would it be possible for you to stay in the family home until the youngest is 18?

NewHorizons2020 · 30/04/2020 18:20

Sadly no. I will need help from family and we are just too far away. House needs to be sold.

Are you wanting to stay south of Lancaster if possible?

Are you in the area now or is it going to involve a big move?

NewHorizons2020 · 30/04/2020 18:22

A big move, we are just outside London.

Without knowing your circumstances, no one can comment on whether that figure is reasonable, but think 50%+ of whatever your joint net worth is. It’s not the bare minimum he thinks he can get away with, whatever he tells you. Make sure you’re fully informed about all your finances, he doesn’t get to ringfence whatever he fancies. 💐

TheCumbrian · 30/04/2020 18:28

That budget will get you something really nice in the area.

I suppose I'm wondering why the importance is being placed on LGGS, It's a great school but there's also other good schools in the area. Realistically though there is nothing for teens to do unless you can get into Lancaster or Preston easily and if you are set on LGGS you probably need to be closer to Lancaster so friendships can be developed.

How well do you know the area, have you got any areas in mind you would prefer to avoid or look at?

reefedsail · 30/04/2020 18:31

I like this one.

Looks friendly.

NewHorizons2020 · 30/04/2020 18:32

I don’t know the area that well. We were aiming for grammar In London before the split and I suppose that’s why I’m still a bit fixated, DD is preparing for 11plus right now. I really need my family close, they all moved to Fleetwood a few years ago. As I don’t know the area I just want to make sure that it’s a decent area with a lovely garden and a very good back up secondary if grammar doesn’t work out.

NewHorizons2020 · 30/04/2020 18:33

@reefedsail thank you 😊 I’ll have a look at that. Was hoping for a bigger garden and a semi or detached but I’m very grateful you are looking !

This one is a little over budget (£345k) and needs work but much more spacious than the most of them under £300k from what I can see www.zoopla.co.uk/for-sale/details/54202186?search_identifier=0322e890f2398ab0eb655248a74b461f

Is dad willing to allow you to move the children that far?

reefedsail · 30/04/2020 18:45

Needs some TLC. Too rural?

Garstang every time for me. A lovely little town.

NewYearNewTwatName · 30/04/2020 18:48

surprised no one has linked this one yet it's in Lancs WinkGrin

JeSuisPoulet · 30/04/2020 18:50

Btw I've aimed a little higher because I think there will be leeway for manouvre with the housing market and surveys Wink The first I linked to is £325k not £345 as I previously posted. Other people are suggesting much newer houses though!

NewYearNewTwatName · 30/04/2020 18:51

Sorry I couldn't resist. it's in Lytham st Annes, and this is the on going thread about it.

You say you need your family close. But Lancaster and Fleetwood aren’t that close: 25 miles or so apart. So probably a good 40 min drive. So when you say close, is it for practical childcare reasons, or just to have a family network nearby?

handbagsatdawn33 · 30/04/2020 18:56

I don't wish to sound negative, but if your family are already in the area surely they can sort the wheat from the chaff?
