To not be able to agree on this 'simple' question

Please help me answer, to DH, what has been an ongoing discussion for at least 4 weeks:

A shop closes at 12pm (midday) and reopens at 2pm the same day. 12pm on the dot, 2pm on the dot. How long is the shop closed for, in hours?

There's no riddle behind it, nothing to bend time, stop clocks etc etc

It's also not a trick question, we just can't agree and I can't find another way to explain this

Don't know why people are surprised he has a degree and very senior job! Have you seen the state of the government? Oh god, is you DH Boris?

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 01/05/2020 08:06

2 hours

AtrociousCircumstance · 01/05/2020 08:08
Shock

Your DH doesn’t understand numbers, or time. That must be a drawback.

ItsPeanutButterJelly · 01/05/2020 08:10

Like others I'm curious to know what
Diagrams you've used to explain this already.

Can you explain it in real life terms - like lunch breaks. Three people working in the shop so how many would be able to take their lunch break over that period between 12 and 2 if they went one at a time.

Downunderduchess · 01/05/2020 08:24

LTB

NotSorry · 01/05/2020 08:38

Just say what I say to DH when he’s being a wind up “you know best” Then I walk away

No grown man with a degree and holding down a job can really believe it, so he must be on a wind up - are you coming back OP?

CookPassBabtridge · 01/05/2020 08:41

This is hilarious! God those arguments where someone says the grass is blue and won't change their mind are the most frustrating.. because you can't argue with stupid.

Scoobydoobywho · 01/05/2020 08:55

So for example if your dh went to bed at 22:00 and got up at 10:00 he thought he would of had 13 hours sleep. 🤦‍♂️

SimpleKindofLife · 01/05/2020 09:10

Has the OP come back?

Germ1360 · 01/05/2020 09:47

OP, is your DH 'TheJosh'?

This is from my year 2 DC's maths.
Assuming your husband is older than 7, he really should understand this by now!

WHAT. THE. FUCK.

Puddlesplasher · 01/05/2020 12:43

I've just asked DS aged 9. He is dyslexic, has dyscalculia and really struggles to tell the time. He instantly answered two hours!

mummmy2017 · 01/05/2020 18:54

The Mirror and Twitter have picked this up.

imsooverthisdrama · 01/05/2020 19:52

Ha ha brilliant @mummmy2017
I wonder if the op will ever come back and tell us that her husband has admitted he's wrong ?

notchickenagain · 01/05/2020 20:04

Can he do basic math? ie if he has 12 chocolate buttons but he actually craves 14 how many more does he need? Because if he can do that, convert to the 24 hour clock and repeat. 🤣

IamtheDevilsAvocado · 01/05/2020 20:08

Um... 2 of course.....

I knkw we ALL make mistakes... But this guy is a graduate and INSISTS he's right...

Get him to ask his pals on FBGrin

amusedbush · 01/05/2020 20:20

This reminds me of the time DH and I had a huge argument because he said the tips of North and South Poles touched at the other side of the world. I couldn't believe he could be so stupid and I was pulling up globes online to prove him wrong.

It turned out he was winding me up but he was very convincing, and he kept it up for about half an hour Grin

Iarla · 02/05/2020 11:04

I teach in an infant school and some children struggle with counting on using the number line. You might check how he gets on with a 0 to 20 numberline before teaching him the clock.
If he really struggles you can do actual physical jumps on a giant numberline or clock on the floor to demonstrate you're counting the movement or the 'jump' not the numerals.
He seems to be the child who puts their finger on each number: in this case 12, 1 and 2 and counted them.
It might seem a bit extreme for a grown man but needs must. He could also carry a laminated numberline and a plastic clock with moveable hands in his pockets so he won't get caught out looking a bit foolish when he's out and about Wink

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 02/05/2020 13:26

Dh once told me, completely seriously, that there are two tubes coming down the penis - one for wee, the other for sperm. He did biology at school, but I can only assume he slept through the lesson on the Male reproductive tract. He was gobsmacked when I told him he was wrong.

FizzyGreenWater · 02/05/2020 17:19

Presumably he was winding OP up.

... and he'll now be sniggering at how clever he is to, err, be able to do that.

Can you imagine being married to that!! Shock Grin Hmm
