This is becoming absurd.

When will kids go back to school?
When can I go on holiday?
When will hairdressers re-open?
When will the pubs open?
When will there be a vaccine?

When, when, when, when, when?

There is a very simple answer to all of the questions:

NOBODY KNOWS. ABSOLUTELY NOBODY KNOWS.

MNetters do not have access to some sort of secret information that nobody else in the world does, and also MNetters do not all live in one place - or indeed in the same country/continent so even if they did have a definitive answer it might not apply to you.

Who pissed in your cornflakes ?

FlamingoAndJohn · 30/04/2020 08:25

I tried to start a thread like this.
No one listened and it just turned into a thread about when the schools will go back.

DaphneFanshaw · 30/04/2020 08:26
Grin Dude, just chill out a bit. People are scared, they know their not going to get an answer. They just need to be able to talk about the possibility of what may happen.
MarieQueenofScots · 30/04/2020 08:27

Just hide threads that don’t interest you. There’s a very simple way to make your MN experience better.

People naturally want to discuss an unusual situation.

user1495884620 · 30/04/2020 08:29

People are discussing it because nobody KNOWS. If there was a worldwide timetable, there would be no need for threads about it.

RitaConnors · 30/04/2020 08:29

Whilst I know what you mean and I agree that nobody knows...people are just talking. On a forum.

A forum isn’t a search engine. It’s a place for conversation and opinion. Nobody knew who shot JR but they still talked about it.

You should stay away from forums if you don’t like inane chit chat.

DaphneFanshaw · 30/04/2020 08:29

I might start a thread asking people to stop moaning about people asking when...?
Although I am pretty sure that would be atat though, and I don’t want to be in trouble with HQ

Thighmageddon · 30/04/2020 08:31

You sound as grumpy as my dh.

Whenever the journalists start asking questions on the daily briefing, my usual non swearing dh starts yelling at the tv screen with multiple "you fucking morons, no one knows" Grin

DaphneFanshaw · 30/04/2020 08:32
Grin
TokyoSushi · 30/04/2020 08:37

But I quite like the speculation though...

bulliedintonamechange · 30/04/2020 08:39

Calm down babes

BarbaraofSeville · 30/04/2020 08:39

People are scared, they know their not going to get an answer. They just need to be able to talk about the possibility of what may happen

But the threads always fill up with lots of 'the schools won't go back until September' and 'they can't be off until September, they will go back after May half term' type comments and people take them as actual fact.

No-one knows and there's really no point discussing anything more than 2/3 weeks ahead, because nobody knows. People need to work on accepting that as fact rather than going round in endless discussions of 'what ifs'.

userxx · 30/04/2020 08:42

Chill ya jets sister.

Seetheprettysnowdrops · 30/04/2020 08:47

Calm down babes?

Chill ya jets sister?

Am I missing a joke or have I wandered onto the wrong site?
GrinGrin

DaphneFanshaw · 30/04/2020 08:48

If you don’t think there is any point in discussing it - don’t discuss it.
I think it’s fine if it helps people to go around in endless discussions of what ifs.
There are lot of things that other people do that I find pointless and annoying, I wouldn’t dream of telling them to stop and do things my way.

DaphneFanshaw · 30/04/2020 08:49

Oh, just incase you’re out there pedants I know I used the wrong they’re .
I hadn’t finished my first cup of coffee and the dts are resisting my suggestions of breakfast then Joe Wicks.

lockdownbirthdayhelp · 30/04/2020 08:52

People can discuss whatever they like within the rules. You're not obliged to read the threads.

Redcherries · 30/04/2020 08:55

I have to agree about the journalists, even more so if they repeat a question already answered but word it slightly differently like that will change the answer.

I think speculation is just a way of projecting forwards to when we regain some normality in our lives. I don't think anyone thinks anyone has the answers, it just makes an end to this current situation a little more real if we discuss it.

ThisGunsForHire · 30/04/2020 08:55

I agree op. Pointless speculation.

HandfulOfFlowers · 30/04/2020 08:56

Just scroll on past. Personally, I don't engage with threads about divorce and step children. It doesn't mean people can't post them!

AmelieTaylor · 30/04/2020 08:57

Yes, it's tedious. Very fucking tedious &
NO ONE KNOWS is the obvious answer.

But people WANT to talk about it & that's their perogitive.

If it's not this it's Brexit/MIK's/how often you wash your bedsheets 🤷🏻‍♀️

Just find a corner of MN that interests you and hang out there. You can only change YOUR behaviour not millions of others

Plus YOU started another CV thread 🙇🏻‍♀️

ANoiseAnnoys · 30/04/2020 08:58

I agree that speculation is fruitless however I quite enjoy reading people’s differing opinions - for instance on a thread yesterday someone was convinced schools will be open in May which I find hilarious yet fascinating! I mean, why on earth does she think that?

If she turned out to be right (she won’t) however I would eat my hat and kiss her feet - my dc’s are slowly turning feral and I’m worried their brains will have turned to:porridge by the time they return to school.

thejollygargler · 30/04/2020 09:01

That's me told then Grin

Yes I am grumpy. Very, very grumpy.

I shall go in the greenhouse and oil and sharpen all my garden tools.

When do you think it would be OK to come back?

OP posts:
DaphneFanshaw · 30/04/2020 09:02

NEVER!!!

BumBurnerBum · 30/04/2020 09:04

I agree with you and find the speculation unhelpful and often alarmist (especially when conducted by the media masquerading speculation as fact).
