Are MLMs on the increase or have I just been unlucky?

Just that really- I thought they were disappearing but I'm not on FB anymore so maybe just don't see it as often... ignorance is bliss. I have had three "hun" WhatsApp messages from different people (2 off acquaintances and one from a close friend) in 8 days to buy their products and sign up to a mailing list of some sort. One then text me a few days after to make sure I'd got the WhatsApp. I've just ignored 2 of them but with the closer friend (who sent a very long message about showing support due to her drop in income etc) I had to gently remind that my business is shut indefinitely and my DH has also taken a wage cut to keep his business running. I wouldn't mind if it was Avon where you can get a few bits without it costing a fortune but this was some mascara at like £30 or something. Think she's got face on now.... these things are a nightmare!

Nope. If anything since lockdown, MLMs have increased their "recruitment" targeting.

They know that many people will have lost their jobs or will have reduced income, thereby targeting vulnerable people (mainly women) and convincing them to join their company, spend their own money on "start up kits" or whatever, and ultimately try to recruit more people to do the same thing. They sell the "work from home, live the dream" ideal, when the reality is far from it.

I swiftly block anyone on Instagram who messages me with an attempt to "recruit" me.

Urgh I find it really sad from all angles. They're obviously trying to earn extra money but surely they don't think that some of these product are worth the inflated price. I feel bad saying no because I want to support her- hell I'd giver her £30 if she spent it all on herself rather than line someone else pockets further up the line but I'm also really pissed off- I feel a bit used in truth!
