Confusedasusual78 · 28/04/2020 22:17

The 1984 control of disease act has been changed on the 27 April (yesterday) obviously due to coronavirus.
Has anyone else read the ‘Laws’ that have been put in place, and aibu to be scared by this?
Can’t link i’m sorry, if anyone can that would be great.

You'll see that the usual suspects on Facebook are now deleting this as it's so easily shown to be false. Some of them are being applauded by their ignorant followers for showing 'due diligence'. Due diligence is what you do before sharing provably false information to thousands of people, many of whom commented that they were "terrified", "scared" and had "a sleepless night" because of the fake information they had been fed.

The video also linked to a shady 'petition' that required people to share lots of personal information. Many filled this in blindly, without having a clue who had started it who who they were sharing their data with. More fool them.

Conspiracy theories are dangerous and irresponsible.

@ItsGoingTibiaK
I saw this video and tried to research it. I found this post which was helpful. Don't get it removed. It's not a good idea to censor everything. People need to be able to talk about concerns so they can educate themselves. Don't condemn people for asking questions, there is so much going on that people have a right to be concerned. The original poster was not spreading misinformation but questioning it - there is a big difference. Anyone else who finds this post will now know that the video is false. Mission accomplished.

Confusedasusual78 · 29/04/2020 15:09

@kickinside Thank you! I definitely wasn’t trying to share false information. I would hate to deliberately make others feel as anxious as I have been recently, but needed to query it, as much of the language in the governments acts/bills can be confusing at times.

@ItsGoingTibiaK You were harsh in your response there.

@confusedasusual78

Not harsh at all. The subject of your thread is presented as a factual statement. Your OP is presented as a factual statement. Your only question is asking people if they're scared by this. You shared something, as fact, that you clearly don't understand. That's dangerous and irresponsible.

I hope you learn from it and are more careful about what you share in future. I hope others do the same because I, for one, am heartily sick and tired of people lazily sharing things that even a small amount of scrutiny would prove to be false.

I am entirely unapologetic.

Confusedasusual78 · 29/04/2020 15:25

It wasn’t like that at all @ItsGoingTibiaK

I definitely wasn’t trying to share false information

So don't link to a randomer on YouTube then, FFS!

It's bigger bollocks than Buster Gonad.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 29/04/2020 17:28

OP next time you done something like this post it with a question... is this for real or is it just more disinformation?

The way started this thread could only really be read as startling, misinformed and adding to the general batshittery.

It's easy to be scared by such shit. Don't let it get to you.

Confusedasusual78 · 29/04/2020 23:13

You’re right, I actually wasn’t trying to provoke any anxiety and stupidly took it to be completely genuine, therefore posted it without a question mark etc. I think there’s a lot of questioning going on recently and I’m getting sucked into misinformation.

Hi Confusedasusual78,
I think you are correct to be concerned. It's excessive, extensive and shocking.
Some people on here are refering to March rules which are not the ones that you are refering to dated 27 April 2020, changes made to the 1984 Act.
I hope it becomes more normal to think critically rather than consuming the half-story fed to us on the news all day every day.
Questioning and investigating is the way forward. It's time consuming and frustrating as the main stream media hinder the truth, YouTube obviously is limited as you then must check the facts and the facts are very hard to find! There's lots of hearsay about manipulation of statistics by corporations and the WHO each with their own agendas.
As any investigator will tell you , follow the money. There is unfathomable quantities of money bobbing about in this mess.
I say this with the sincerest respect and sympathies for the loss and suffering going on.
That in fact is what drives my thirst for the real dynamics of this war.
I'm not a nut job, I live a very ordinary life and I follow the rules of lockdown.
Don't you just wonder sometimes how we got here?

ItsGoingTibiaK · 02/05/2020 03:35

@spongemix

There were categorically no changes to the Public Health (Control of Disease) Act on 27 April. You are absolutely and completely incorrect.

Notthefutureyet · 02/05/2020 06:26

There's lots of hearsay about manipulation of statistics by corporations and the WHO each with their own agendas.

The keyword here being "hearsay", do you have anything more than that?

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 02/05/2020 07:14

Are you sure you didn’t get the date wrong. Are the changes you are talking about the ones made on the 22nd April by statutory instrument?
