AIBU to ask about the creepiest thing that has ever happened to you that you cannot explain?

I realise threads like these have probably been done to death but I am super bored and struggling to find anything to watch/read.

I’ve had 2 weird experiences, one as a child at school aged about 11.
My friends and I, about 3 or 4 of us saw some orange peel type shapes floating in the air, coming down towards our heads, in the playground. We put our hands out to catch them, thinking that they were leaves or flying insects. I think it was sunny, so we may have been squinting because of the brightness. Our hands went through the shapes, which floated down to the concrete floor and disappeared. We all looked at each other saying did you see that too, what the hell was that. We all saw the same thing and 50+ years later I’m still baffled what we saw.

The other incident was a dream after Eric Clapton’s son died in that horrific accident in New York. In my dream I was reading a newspaper about it and the article said that EC had another child, a daughter who he’d be reunited with. When I woke up I told my husband and a close friend about the dream, saying wouldn’t that be a nice thing to come true as the poor man must be going crazy with grief.
Sometime later, I can’t remember exactly how long, I think it was a few months, I opened a newspaper and there was the same article as in my dream. EC discovered he had a daughter and was arranging to meet with her.

I was doing the washing up and looked up at the kitchen window. I saw a kangaroo, no shit, looking straight back at me.
Quite possible if you're Down Under, but not very likely in Cheshire!
At some point I blinked and it disappeared, but I saw it staring at me for 2 or 3 seconds at least.

Clearly some kind of hallucination, my one and only, but a kangaroo? WTF was that all about?

Ive had a few experiences. Went to country estate for a few days. Myself ex and our girls and another lady were in an annexe of the main house. Heard door closing and several footsteps on stone steps. Spoke to lady next day she was In bed before us. Sounded like metal seggs on stone and there was a strange smell of peat burning in the middle of the bed.
Yrs before I woke from a dream soaking in sweat and saw an older lady sitting at bottom of bed looking over ex husband. When I des ribed her it was his gran. I had never met her as she had died before I met him.
Was in my house with bf and he heard a child giggle on staircase. His son and my daughter weren't with us at the time as at their other parents. He heard the giggling twice.
In my previous house my bf and I woke up to my bed being in the middle of the room. It had been pushed/shoved down from a wall to touch TV unit.

I had a friend whom I used to visit regularly (and at one point rented a room from him). When going upstairs to use the bathroom I always used to get the feeling I was being watched and it felt very disaproving in nature and this started from the foot of the stairs (which were directly opposite the open kitchen door). I didn't like walking past the kitchen when it was dark or the lights were off. One evening whilst having a conversation with my friend who owned the property, we somehow got to the subject of ghosts/the supernatural and I asked him if he believed in them or if he had ever seen one. His response was yes; his dead mother had appeared to him a few times over the years and always in the kitchen. He would be doing something, turn around and she was just there quite often with her back to him doing something. It also appears that when she was alive she was quite controlling and hated him having any visitors over and would often glare at his guests from the kitchen as they were walking up the stairs.

I worked in a hotel till just recently, one day myself and another member of staff were working together on the 1st floor, another member of staff came upstairs to get something from us , he looked all over the 1st floor and even in the room we were in but couldn’t find us, but we were right there on the same floor as him, in the room he had looked into, but he said later that day that when he looked into the room it was empty 😬 also on this same floor sometimes you would sense someone walking past and then immediately look to see who it was and there would be no one there, all the girls refused to work on this floor alone...

Mine still makes my skin crawl to this day. We bought a house that was built in 1959 by the original and only previous owners. They didn't have children and he died in hospice and she died in the house having fallen over.

We had lived there exactly a month (at which point I was starting getting the builders in to evaluate what we could do) when I had a very vivid dream about a woman marching in from the woods that backed onto the house, coming straight into the sunroom and marching up the stairs. In the dream, I was at the top of the stairs. She then screamed at me to get out of HER house and it would never be mine and I woke up. One of my children had similar dreams too.

And THEN my neighbour showed me a photo of the original homeowners and I'm not kidding, it was the same woman. I don't believe in any woohoo crazy shit but we didn't ever feel at home there and sold it as soon as we'd finished the renos. Admittedly, I know my neghbour had already described the original owner in very vague terms, but the photo was the same woman as in my dream. And she was a BITCH! :D

When I was younger, myself, DH and 2 other couples went away for the weekend to Wexford.
On returning back to our hotel we seen this huge house/mansion. It was really impressive to see. For some reason we decided to go into the grounds and knock on this door as it looked spectacular. There was something there but didn't know what or why we wanted to knock.

So we knocked and a woman came out and invited us in, we explained about the urge to knock and see the house. She invited us in. Have to be honest from the minute I walked into the house I felt such dread, my hairs on my arms were standing up and my fight or flight had kicked in. I was looking at my friends and they were saying we need to get out of here.
We were all experiencing the same sick feeling. One of the men said we would stay 5 minutes as it wasn't fair on the woman who had let us in. She brought us into a sitting room, I was dragging my feet, I felt sick. No joke I was terrified. I kept telling my DH we needed to leave.

The woman proceeded to tell us the history of the house in which it had changed hands many times and at one time it was an nunnery, another a orphanage. She told us that there were a lot of children buried on the grounds and the house never had any luck with people who lived there. Something always happened.
There were newspapers on the table, all dated over 12 years old.
After a few minutes we said our goodbyes, she was asking us did we want to view upstairs, not a chance, my stomach was rolling.
I couldn't wait to get out. When we left, we stopped outside the gates and I asked how did they all feel. Everyone experienced the same feeling of fear, dread and darkness in the house.
We got back to our hotel, straight to the bar were we spoke to the barman. We told him of going up to the big house, and asked what it was. He told us no-one ever went up there as it was evil and there was no-one there. We explained about the woman. He said no-one lives there.

Months later after the weekend I seen the house on the television and it was coming up as one of the most haunted houses in Ireland.
I really don't think its a spoof as I know how I felt on entering and leaving this building. I think they do tours there. It's called Loftas Hall. There's not a chance I'd go back in there.

There are wild wallabies in the UK @Disquieted1 although not sure about Cheshire. Wild/escaped populations in Isle of Man, Peak District, Devon, Kent and East Sussex

Raccoon2020vision · 29/04/2020 02:33

@ladymalfoy Chillingham Castle is one of the weirdest places in Northumberland (the least populated county in England. Although an ex boyfriend reckoned Norfolk ran it pretty close). Some SERIOUSLY unpleasant things have happened there in centuries gone by. The family also used to own a castle in Ireland which you might want to look up....

Downunderduchess · 29/04/2020 02:36

Years ago in the house I still live in, I got up to go to the loo in the middle of the night. Walked back into my bedroom & as soon as I crossed the threshold I smelt a very strong smell of lavender. Unmistakable. I am not a fan of lavender so I don’t have anything with that scent in my house. It stayed for quite a few minutes & then just disappeared. I have no idea what it meant.

I have had a few other things happen over the years in this house, feeling my cat on the bed etc. turning the light on to find he wasn’t even in the room. I’ve never really been scared though.

LittleViolets · 29/04/2020 02:46

tazzy73 your story gave me the creeps reading it Shock I googled the name you gave, is it that HUGE looking mansion?

When ds2 was little he used to get very ill with his tonsils on a regular basis and often needed hospital treatment.
One such night my DH was away for work and my best friend came over to help me take turns watching ds during the night.
Earlier that day we had received the sad news that my uncle had died. He was a giant of a man and very funny (if a little inappropriate at times).
Anyway we were up talking while the dc has gone to bed, it was late. Ds2 came down the stairs upset and cuddled up to me. His pain relief was wearing off had his temperature was creeping up again. Suddenly he bursts out laughing starring at and engaging with the empty chair in the corner.
My friend and I look at each other as it was very strange. When I asked him what he was looking at he said the funny giant.
We were terrified. The thing is when my uncle had visited he had sat in that chair as it was the only chair that could accommodate his size! DS had never met him as he lived a good distance away and rarely visited.

I was visiting my niece who was working on a boat at Airlie Beach in the Whitsundays, Qld. She had a campervan and was writing a book, which I was reading through, checking for errors. One warm night we were sitting in the campervan in a huge caravan park just out of Airlie Beach. It had small roads with street lights, grey nomads, back packers, all sorts of people camped there. Next to the caravan park was a supermarket and some shops.

Late one night I was sitting at the end of the bed and she was sitting near the front of the campervan facing me. We were quietly working on the book when she yelled out to me to look. Next door there was a large car and caravan, the car was parked away from the caravan and about about three metres from us. She looked frightened and said she saw a dark figure walk from the other side of the caravan, past the gap and the car, then it walked across the road in a semi circle. She said she though it was casing us. There was a small street light and she said it disappeared as two people walking along the road past my niece’s campervan came into our view. My niece is pretty gutsy and said she would show me what she saw. She went outside and walked behind the next door camper van, then I could see her walk past the gap and past the car and then she walked the semi circle.

We talked about it for awhile and finally got back to the book. About ten minutes later I felt hot and took my jumper off and as I pulled it over my head I glanced towards the small open window. This thing was standing right outside the window and looked like it was about to come in the door. It was so close I could have leant over and touched it through the window.

I have seen many strange things but I have never seen anything that freaked me out like this. It was a dark figure with a round head. As I shrieked out it disappeared.

The next day my niece spoke to some backpackers about what we saw. One of them said haven’t we noticed the bad vibes around the caravan park. My niece and I had seen people arguing, even the friendly older couple parked across this road from us had been in a shouting argument with two other people.

We only stayed a few days after that, it was on our minds. A visit o the toilets in the middle of the night meant a walk down this road. I think it would still have been around though we wouldn’t have known.

The night my mum died we were all sitting in her room, myself DS and DF, it was 1am, we had settled dad down on a chair with a blanket, I went and bought tea and my sister went to the loo, that was adjoined to my mums room. I came back, settled in a chair holding her hand, when my sister flew out of the bathroom because the shower came on by itself, the noise woke my dad, I sat up and my mums breathing changed and slowed, and stopped, I said to my dad that I thought she had gone, and she breathed again, grunted “ not yet” breathed for 5 minutes and then slipped peacefully off.
The following night, my grandad stood at the foot of my bed, told me that he had come for my mum but she heard my voice and wouldn’t leave, but she was safe and well in their care now.
My grand daughter was 3, we were taking her to a park near where I grew up, my mum had died before she was born so there was no link to that area at all. As we went past the bottom of the road she sad “ nanny, do you remember when we lived there......and I was your mum?” Both myself and DH made her repeat it twice!

Hollyhobbi · 29/04/2020 03:10

@tazzy73 it's Loftus Hall, known as the most haunted house in Ireland.

ClientQ · 29/04/2020 03:14

I have a few. We lived in a pub that used to be a courthouse, the cellar was a mortuary at one point. There was also a priest hole, a hidden tunnel and there is a memorial on the moors for someone that was killed by a gun borrowed from the landlord of the pub at the time
To add, my dad is the least woo person ever and ended up naming the "ghost" Matthew. When ever anything went missing we would be "FFS Matthew, put it BACK" BlushGrin

My dad has locked up the pub, and there was a hallway to the toilets with a sort of frosted glass door. He saw a shadow and stood back saying "after you" as we always did, before realising the time and everyone had left. He opened the door and the shadow vanished

Again, pub locked up. Candles on every table and it was end of night habit to put the candles out then turn off the lights to check none left burning which would set off the alarm . Dad put them all out, went upstairs and the alarm went off. Went back downstairs to find a candle lit. Blew it out, and chucked the candle out the holder. Went back upstairs, alarm went off. Back downstairs, candle back in holder and lit. Dad "Matthew, I'm tired, stop it" Grin

Waitress spotted a small child on her own and went to see if she was lost as she was crying. Child vanished, crying carried on. Waitress handed her notice in Blush

The weirdest one I experienced there was I kept catching a glimpse out the corner of my eye of a man holding a knife up, raised as if he was going to stab me. I ended up going in to my parents room sobbing because this vision/thing wouldn't go away. Must have been about 19 and I was so terrified I slept on the floor at the end of their bed

Recklessrocket · 29/04/2020 03:32

The strangest thing that’s ever happened to me was tonight!
At around 1am I was woken up by my daughter talking, she was sitting up awake in her cot ( she can’t not sit herself up) I freaked out and put her straight in bed with me. Come 2am she’s woke up screaming and is sitting up on the floor! Not the type of oh I’ve fallen out of bed I’m hurt scream but the type of somebody’s woke me up and now I’m P**D scream. I woke my DP who was asleep on the sofa who then came running in to say something freaky has been happening to him in the living room too!! ( he had been having dreams of a ghost dragging him around ) a hour and half later and I still can’t get back to sleep.

Recklessrocket · 29/04/2020 03:35

I keep trying to convince myself that she learnt to sit up in her cot and that she fell out of bed, nothing more nothing less but it just doesn’t add up!! The worst thing about it which is keeping me up is, on the 24th my uncle who I am not close to past away and it would of been his birthday today. He never knew about my daughter.
