AIBU to ask about the creepiest thing that has ever happened to you that you cannot explain?

I realise threads like these have probably been done to death but I am super bored and struggling to find anything to watch/read.

@RedAzalea

That used to freak me right out.

I'm always interested to hear the 'Savernake Forest' story.

When I lived in Swindon about 12 years ago me, Dh and DD's went camping in Savernake forest when I was pg with DS now 11 - apart from it being very cold in the middle of August it was fine.

I've heard anecdotally from a nurse friend of mine that she's seen things in the middle of the night on the main road that runs beside it between Hungerford and Marlborough, she had worked in a few nursing homes in that area at the time.

Where does it actually say it's Savernake forest in the story? I know it says it's in the SW but there are a lot of forests in the SW, I'm sure I read the original op and she didn't mention that it was actually Savernake Forest, can anyone shine any light on that bit of info that got attached to the story? Tia

RyanBergarasTeeth · 28/04/2020 22:29

@notsureneversure its weird isnt it? I was on the original savernake forrest thread and she mentioned it there but i dont remember if she mentioned it in the actual story or mentioned it after when posters asked where it was.

My ex lived by savernake forrest. I refused to go there after reading that story lol

RyanBergarasTeeth · 28/04/2020 22:31

@Wagsandclaws the more i think the more i feel the writer of the savernake forrest story told people after when they asked its location. Someone needs to find the original thread as there was some wild stories on there. Some super creepy.

Girlinterruption2020 · 28/04/2020 22:32

Yes, the music and the silhouette - I can still remember it very clearly.

The 70s were a weird time

Wagsandclaws · 28/04/2020 22:33

Yes that would be good because I can't remember seeing it on the original thread but then again I could be mistaken as every time it's re-posted it does say it's Savernake Forest?

notsureneversure · 28/04/2020 22:35

@RyanBergarasTeeth the thread seems to have been deleted.

Not exactly creepy but my aunt has always had a knack for sensing things were about to happen, I remember once her running two blocks to the park suddenly because she felt she had to go and it turns out she disturbed a mugging. Another time she saved an old guy from falling down the stairs because she just felt something was going to happen. Pretty useful and possibly just being extremely clued in.

The creepy thing is though that she often gets approached by complete strangers telling her she shouldn't ignore "her gift" or that she has a spirit friend. She absolutely hates it and it happens everywhere. She's not a woo looking person at all so I'd love to know a rational reason this happens so often.

My partner and I had been together about a year and decided to rent a place together. Found a lovely Warner flat in Walthamstow and all was good for about a year. Bizarre things started after my Uncle passed away suddenly, although shortly before we moved we discovered the upstairs neighbours held a ouija board party so who knows?

I'll be the first to admit that this story sounds just that, a 'story', but every word is true and it was bloody terrifying.

Anyway just so you can place yourself, the rooms on the flat all ran off to the left with the main corridor on the right. You'd come through the front door, lounge, spare room, kitchen, bathroom, main bedroom.

It was a Sunday night, about 9pm, partner was out with friends and I was in the kitchen washing up. There was no door to the kitchen, just an arched doorway and suddenly I was aware that something was at the front door. I knew it wasn't a person, I can only describe it as a huge rolling ball of crackling evil energy and it was slowly coming down the hallway.

To the left of the sink was the backdoor however our landlady was super safety concious so as well as the regular lock, there were top and bottom Mortice locks plus top and bottom bolts. I knew that I wouldn't have enough time to get all those locks undone and force open the always sticky door - plus if I did get out into the garden, what would that achieve?!

I remember standing at the sink, shaking as this thing slowly rolled closer and closer to me - I refused to look to my right and just gripped the edge of the sink, my legs shaking so much my knees were actually banging into the cupboard door underneath.

When whatever it was drew level with the archway I felt such pure evil radiating from it my legs almost gave way but amazingly, it carried on slowly moving down the hallway and went.

There were a number of spooky things that happened in that flat but that was the absolute worst. I have no idea what it was, where it came from and I hope I never encounter anything like it ever again.

A few years ago, my partner and I went to Edinburgh for a few days for a birthday treat. We’d never been before and love ghost tours/spooky talks (pre-kids) so booked ourselves onto a few different ones. One of them was into the underground vaults on Halloween. We set off with a big group, you can imagine it was pretty busy. Everything was going great until we got into this one particular vault, it felt really cold and weird. I was standing at the edge of the group and took my phone out to take some photos to look for orbs later on. As I held my phone in my hand, the battery just drained away and went dead. Like I saw the power going down in front of my eyes. I showed my partner quickly but he just shrugged it off. The tour ended and we left the building, so I took my phone out to check it and the battery was back to 75%. We commented how spooky it was but tried to laugh it off.

When we got back to our hotel that night, we got sorted and climbed into bed. About 20 mins after we turned the light off, we heard a noise like the door key card being inserted and rattled around. We initially thought someone from next door was coming back but didn’t hear their door open. It happened again and then the door handle went down as if someone was trying to open the door. As we were staring at each other, the travel kettle switched on by itself. It was the other side of the room to us and just came on and started to boil. My partner jumped up and switched it off before diving back into bed, and then the worst part happened. We heard footsteps inside the room coming from the door towards the bed. We hid under the covers wide-eyed and motionless and listened as they walked around the bed to my side, then back round to his. The floor creaked in the pattern that it had been doing when we walked on it so something was definitely inside the room. After a minute or so, they faded back off to the door and we finally took a deep breath. Now my partner is a 6ft 19stone powerlifter whose not normally easily spooked but he was terrified.

After we got home, I researched the different vaults where we’d been and that particular one had had stories about the ghost following people home.... Confused

When I was a teenager one boxing day afternoon I suddenly felt very warm and 'knew ' it was my greatgrand mother and that she had died.I cried but although sad I felt very calm.
When the phone went an hour later I went down stairs where my mum was answering. When she put the phone down I hugged her and said that I knew.
Apparently she was at my Grandparents, had eaten a nice meal, leant back in her chair ,smiled and breathed out.
My mum remembers that I knew and was there to comfort her as I had done my crying.
My dad, when I was older lived in a cottage that had originally been 3 small ones.Bits of that house were definatly unfriendly, enough for my dad to block one set of stairs off.
Late at night though most of us at one time or another heard foot steps come down the stairs ,across the kitchen to the yard at the back.We only ever heard them go one way.For a few years we all thought we had imagined it until, for some reason askedy dad if he had a bladder problem as there was a toilet by the yard door.Thay started s big discussion because he'd heard it,as hany stepum and brother. We phoned others later and most of us had heard it but not thought anything of it.
The last house I lived in,grade 2 listed had dark ,creaky stairs thaty DD was scared of when she was tiny but it only ever had a warm friendly feel,no cold spots.I don't like the dark but somehow felt safe there.

I was sat on the sofa eating a packet of crisps when my ex (bf at the time) phoned me and said, I hope you enjoyed those wotsits.

OK so it wasn't woo, he had connected to my doggy cam and been watching me. Pretty creepy eh.

LittleMissTeacup · 28/04/2020 22:52

@Wagsandclaws - I read the original thread for Savernake Forest and the poster came back later after posting the story to say it was Savernake Forest.
I also remember this as I used to drive often late at night/ early hours of the morning through there on the main road, as I lived in a village the other side of Savernake Forest (opposite side to Marlborough but before Hungerford).
The road always unnerved me during that drive, I was always in the car alone and breaking down on that stretch was my worst nightmare - thankfully never happened! It’s one of those roads where you can almost imagine something besides you in the Forest - I put it down to the Forest being right on the edge of the road on both sides.
I read the Savernake Forest story after already feeling creeped out about the road - for several months after, whenever I made that drive, I’d put on the most upbeat music I could find and sing loudly through that stretch of road. Thankfully, we’ve since moved!

FlamingoQueen · 28/04/2020 22:55

My DH and I were coming home from in-laws one night (before dc) DH was driving. Along a country lane I saw a young man dressed in WW1 clothing step back into the hedge. At exactly the same time my DH put his foot on the brake. I remember looking at him and saying ‘did you just see a man in WW1 clothing’ and he said yes! As we passed the spot where we’d both seen the man, we slowed down (refused to stop) and it was a stone wall with brambles over it, there was no gate or break in the wall. It was nearly 20 years ago and I can still remember it.
My heart rate has gone up writing this and DH is not home tonight (key worker) and I wish I hadn’t read all of the stories!!

A couple of years ago, I had run out of canes to tie in my tomatoes in the greenhouse just after I'd planted them in for the summer. For some reason, my Dad's old walking stick was in one corner of the greenhouse. At this point, he had been dead for about 10 years. The walking stick had been put there when I was clearing out his things and had never shifted. I used the stick as a cane and secured it to the wooden support and tied the tomato to it. I was thinking about my Dad at the time as he loved gardening and the next thing I knew, the stick had fallen over and tapped me on the shoulder. I jumped but then had a lovely feeling of calm all around me. I am sure it was my Dad.

This is not exactly creepy, but weird nonetheless.

My grandmother died suddenly. Healthy one day, gone from a heart attack the next.

About two weeks after her funeral, I had a dream that she called me. She was (cheerfully) aware she was dead and said just wanted to check on everyone. She asked a lot of detailed questions about those she'd left behind, which I duly answered.

She continued to "call" me once a month for the next six months "to check up on things".

However, with each passing month, her questions got a little more vague. She would forget more names, more details, and there were longer pauses between inquiries.

By the last month, she was speaking quite absently, like a person who called someone and then forgot why. She did say she loved everyone. However, I got the distinct impression that she was in a hurry to get somewhere or do something else. The dream never happened again.

To this day, I believe that (the universe/God/deity of choice) gives a person time who might have passed suddenly or was having trouble "crossing over" time to let go of the ties they had on earth. I am aware that might not comfort everyone, but it does me. Smile

I had a late miscarriage and 3 months later me and dh were followed for 8 hours by a small dog on holiday in Italy that just wouldn’t leave us alone - no matter how much we tried it for it off

Totally nothing but felt “something” at the time
