To ask if you've been stopped by police and asked why you're out?

I've been out and about a LOT during lockdown. My reasons are legitimate (doing deliveries is the bulk of it) but that wouldn't be immediately obvious to a bystander when I'm driving around in an unbranded hatchback.

I've not been asked why I'm out of the house by a police officer even once since lockdown began, which surprises me. I live in a very urban area, and have seen plenty of them. I don't know anyone who has been stopped and asked. I'm curious to see if this is widespread.

YABU = I've been stopped by the police since lockdown began
YANBU = I haven't been stopped by the police

Hi i havent but exh has 😂

Noworrieshere · 28/04/2020 13:14

I was standing on the beach watching my 12 yr old swim in the sea and got told to go home. I had done my swim but he was swimming a bit longer so I was waiting for him. The police officer said that if I was standing still I needed to go home because I wasn't exercising. She was right I suppose, but I was a bit annoyed all the same. I walked up and down until ds was finished.

Littlemissdaredevil · 28/04/2020 13:14

No I haven’t

sonjadog · 28/04/2020 13:15

My Mum has been stopped a few times by police when driving to ask where she is going. She has always been on her way somewhere to go for a walk. It has never been a problem.

Ponoka7 · 28/04/2020 13:15

I haven't but my Gardener, walking around locally with a lawn mower has. So have a couple of his mates. One has aged relatives, doesn't have a car and i think he'd been seen a few times that day, but he carries their shielding letters with him (mainly so he could do bigger shops if needed).

The Police have been breaking up gatherings where I live.

lastonetime · 28/04/2020 13:16

Not me but my parents have, on their way to a hospital appointment

Bluesheep8 · 28/04/2020 13:17

No I haven't either. But I don't think I've done anything that would warrant it. I honestly don't think standing on a beach supervising a child who is exercising is a good enough reason tbh.

BogRollBOGOF · 28/04/2020 13:20

I saw a police car parked by the woods, and a van driving through a village on one of my early runs.

I saw a PCSO walk past my house a couple of weeks ago.

There's been a few police cars passing by on blues.

That's all folks! I always said it was a dozy neighbourhood Smile

EdamFantastic · 28/04/2020 13:20

My boyfriend has. He was taking his dad out for exercise, they live together. His dad has a long term health condition so they were driving somewhere flat for him to walk.

StopMakingATitOfUrselfNPissOff · 28/04/2020 13:20

Not me but I saw an officer asking a teenage boy on a bike where he was going. Policeman wasn't officious and took the lad at his word that he was off to work

Janaih · 28/04/2020 13:20

Dh has bern stopped going to work, but was 5:30am.

Fedhimtotigers · 28/04/2020 13:21

No.
Police once cheered my sons goal that he scored against us in a family game of football.

And on another occasion they told my daughter what a beautiful Elsa she was and how they were happy to meet a princess. (She was in full Elsa costume)

I've seen a lot of police out and about but they seem to just be keeping morale up. They've been great.

Penners99 · 28/04/2020 13:22

Not stopped. Saw two police officers walking the town streets, first I have seen since moving to the town 8 years ago!

IsadoraQuagmire · 28/04/2020 13:24

No, and I've hardly seen any police officers either. The last time I did, 2 of them were coming out of a police station, there was a man sitting on the wall of the police station enjoying the sunshine, and they walked straight past him, ignoring him (this was a few weeks ago, when they were saying people should be moving when out, not sitting on benches etc - before the rules were clarified)

OldEvilOwl · 28/04/2020 13:25

No but I've definitely noticed more of them about on foot and in cars. I'm in north Wales so they are mostly stopping families/groups of people in cars or any camper vans.

ReadilyAvailable · 28/04/2020 13:26

I haven’t been stopped. But I’ve only been out on a bike for what is clearly just exercise with my family. So i can’t imagine anyone wanting or needing an explanation.

Today I get to go on my bike and go to a medical appointment. So that’s exciting. 😆

Windyatthebeach · 28/04/2020 13:27

We need police here. Took ddogs out last night with the dc. Passed a couple with 2 dc enjoying the new play park on the sea front. Passed 3 teens having a Bbq on the beach - car parked on the path at the sea front....
Bonkers.

HugeAckmansWife · 28/04/2020 13:28

No but slightly surprised that they aren't on the motorways more. I travel a long distance to take kids to ex. Was fully prepared to be stopped or questioned at services but haven't been so far. I'm not concerned as I'm not breaking the law but I warned the kids it's a possibilty

GREATAUNT1 · 28/04/2020 13:29

No, but I saw 2 coppers out on the beat move a couple along who were sitting on the grass.

Rhayader · 28/04/2020 13:30

My mum got stopped by armed police (NI) on the way to the post box.

Isawamagpie · 28/04/2020 13:32

Not me, but my partner, landscape gardener has had his truck stopped and asked.

12stepCAKE · 28/04/2020 13:33

There was a huge police van outside my house this morning. 2 officers inside. Just driving up and down. We live in a very quiet village so not sure why...

Cocolapew · 28/04/2020 13:33

Yes I was coming from Tesco and was stopped. He just said "been shopping then?" And laughed, I had rather a lot of beer in the car.
They were stopping every car on that road.

jjejed · 28/04/2020 13:33

They blocked a huge main road here and made everyone stop and say why they were out before they could be let through

x2boys · 28/04/2020 13:34

No.,we went out twice last week for a,drive to a couple of local beauty spot,s to go for a walk ( which is acceptable under government guidelines as ds2_has severe autism and learning disabilities) I took ds DLA award and his blue badge but it was,nt needed and the second time there were lots of people sunbathing etc and a coup!e of police officers were actually walking through the country park and didn't appear to question anyone
