Piers Morgan and his interviewing style

chomalungma · 28/04/2020 12:36

I didn't see it this morning - but have seen the twitter and DM article.

Victora Atkins, the Safeguarding Minister, was on to talk about Domestic Abuse during this time.

I don't know if she got a chance to talk about that.

However, Piers then did his usual discussion about how prepared the Government was - talked about PPE - and clearly she wasn't clued up about that.

The headlines are about a car crash interview.

Did she get a chance to talk about domestic abuse?

I know that Piers and Susanna have an act. She does a few questions and then Piers takes over.

It's tricky - OTOH, he does hold people to account in Government and he doesn't let them escape

OTOH - it would be a shame if an interview got hijacked just for his own end and the domestic abuse discussion got overshadowed

Yes she did talk about abuse. I'm not normally keen on his style but just at the moment I think lots of interviewers are giving them an easy time, waffle answers, avoiding the question etc.

I think her avoiding questions about Operation Cygnus in 2016 and eventually admitting she'd never heard of it was a bit breathtaking. She later said she just didn't know the name but really there has been so much talk about it I would have thought anyone asked about an operation in 2016 would have realised what he meant.

To be honest I felt he went a bit easier on her than he would normally.

Just to add after Panorama last night I would have thought she'd be expecting some tough questions.

species5618 · 28/04/2020 12:58

My DP yesterday declared a sneaking admiration for Piers. We're now socially distancing!

chomalungma · 28/04/2020 13:16

Good to hear she got to talk about domestic abuse.

I wonder if Boris Johnson will appear on his show. Sorry - I meant GMB

I think Boris would probably rather hideout somewhere far far away than face Piers at the moment but if he does go on it would be very interesting.

species5618 I know what you mean but it says alot for the rest of the media when you have to turn to Piers to see ministers being properly challenged, although Sky News are doing a better job than the BBC, I think it is the Kay Burley show, she is more polite but she keeps on at them like a determined terrier, not as loud as Piers but quite effective.

squeakandknock · 28/04/2020 17:09

Piers is awful at the moment. He invites people on and then doesn't let them speak. Pointless.

1forsorrow · 28/04/2020 17:26

No he doesn't let them do their rehearsed speech which isn't answering the quesiton.

User7764217 · 28/04/2020 17:30

I actually agree with a lot of his points but I just can’t watch him when he is interviewing

DGRossetti · 28/04/2020 17:30

Apparently Simon Hoare MP has taken to Twitter to protect the reputation of MPs, calling PM "Chicken", which has prompted an invitation to appear on GMB.

It's fascinating how PM appears to have become the Voice of Reason these past few weeks. When a disparate collection of broadly left wing comics are praising him, you do find yourself wondering if you died overnight and this is in fact some form of afterlife.

inwood · 28/04/2020 17:32

His style is awful but I actually agreed with him this morning.

ExclamationPerfume · 28/04/2020 17:46

She did talk about abuse. He is fantastic he is trying to get answers out of the liars. None of them can answer a question. They answer the question they would have like to have been asked. She didn't have a clue about the previous pandemic investigation.

Doingtheboxerbeat · 28/04/2020 17:57

He is a broken clock and this Piers love fest won't last forever, can it 😳?
At least he has managed to extract his head from Agolf Twittlers arse.

Emmacb82 · 28/04/2020 17:59

I actually agree with a lot of things that he says, but I cannot abide the way he talks to people. If you are going to invite people on, at least give them a chance to answer your questions. He borders on being a bully and Susannah just sits there not saying anything. He would get a lot more respect from me if he didn’t love the sound of his own voice so much.

LagunaBubbles · 28/04/2020 18:07

Did she get a chance to talk about domestic abuse?

Yes she did.

I can't stand him, but at least he's asking the questions needed. If that makes him a broken clock it's because the media haven't taken the Government to task and the love fest is on Boris. Have you seen last nights Panorama programme?

It is weird isn't it, I can't believe it when I hear myself agreeing with him.

Doingtheboxerbeat · 28/04/2020 20:58

@LagunaBubbles, I completely agree with you on all fronts hence my broken clock being right only twice a day.
He does come across as someone who would start an argument with a dead animal though.

Mummyshark2019 · 28/04/2020 21:46

Some of his interviews are a bit cringe BUT, these politicians who have made a complete shit show of the pandemic need to be help to account. We don't want to hear them waffle on, avoiding answering the question and dodging everything to make them look good. We just want to honest truth. Even if that means putting their hands up and admitting where they've made mistakes, which they are resolute not to do. Even the French government have done this. It is this honesty which will help unify the nation. They need to realign the government and bring in people who know what they are doing. These guys are simply not up to the job. They don't know her numbers, they don't know how many deaths in care homes or when PPE will arrive. They have no idea what the exit lockdown strategy will be. All we can do is sit at home and wait for an effing vaccine. So Piers should give them a hard time. If they agree to go on his show, they know what to expect and they should come on with a good explanation.

TruffleShuffles · 28/04/2020 22:05

I just don’t understand how every politician that goes on GMB appears to be so underprepared? He asks them the same questions everyday and none of them can ever answer them or even attempt to answer them, it’s so bizarre.

Mummyshark2019 · 28/04/2020 22:10

They're underprepared for everything @truffleshuffles.

Growingboys · 28/04/2020 22:10

I can't bear to watch him

1forsorrow · 29/04/2020 16:52

He can be nice, he was lovely to a little girl on Monday's programme and matched what she had raised, I think it was nearly £2k. She was thrilled. She was about 6 I think and had lost her limbs to meningitis. I saw a different side to him then.
