Discount for NHS workers...

Ok ok,
I'm prepared to be told I am being unreasonable and flamed for this.

Today on Facebook I saw a new build housing company are offering 5% discounts on their new builds if you are an NHS worker. This is a long term plan so not just for the duration we are under this crisis.

Now as much as I think it's a nice idea,
And I wholeheartedly have the upmost respect for NHS worker at the moment, Would I be unreasonable to think if you work in the NHS you will still be receiving your full wage so would be in a better financial situation to buy a home anyway as apposed to someone who has had to pause their savings for a deposit due to furlough?

Are NHS workers far more important than every other frontline worker? Yes I know they are saving lives, but supermarket workers are helping us kept fed, care home staff are also on the frontline but no discount for them!

Thoughts please?

My friend was given £10k towards his house as an NHS worker. He had to stay in the house for ten years and was then allowed to keep it. This was well over a decade ago. It isn't a new thing.

Companies don’t very often offer discounts out of the goodness of their hearts.
It will mostly be good pr plus attracting business from some of the only people with guaranteed job stability at the moment.

It’s all too much tbh. Everyone and everywhere appears to be offering huge discounts and freebes to all nhs workers. Some who work in nhs do not have face to face daily contact with patients, also many have not been touched by Covid. What about supermarket workers? They didn’t go into their jobs expecting to be put in very vulnerable situations, every single day.

They do, however, offer discounts to employees of big companies. I get a 15% discount with Vodafone by virtue of who I work for. So, incidentally, do NHS workers.

We have many other offers available to us too - eg, we can buy vouchers for shopping at some supermarkets that give us cheaper shopping - eg, we can buy a voucher for £100 worth of shopping for £90 - that kind of thing.

DSis works for the NHS, on the management side. She already gets discounts for all sorts of things too.
