Is UK post delivery taking longer?

Not an AIBU at all but posting here for a range of opinions. I need to post a birthday card soon which I hope will arrive on the receiver's actual birthday. I know these things are never guaranteed anyway, but does anyone have experience of whether first class delivery is still expected to be next day, or longer? If relevant, I live in the same town as the receiver.

pink I understand it's a bit like Xmas?

Everything is arriving eventually so I'm not fussed. I never usually see my postman tbh, it's nice to give him a thumbs up through the window a couple of times a week at the moment.

A friend in the North sent me a parcel second-class on Friday, arrived through the door to me (midlands) this morning!

I posted 2 letters first class on Thursday; one to stay in my city and one to go to my hometown. The local one arrived the next day (Friday), the one going 50 ish miles away arrived today (Monday)

We're onlÅ· getting post every 2-3 days. There's been quite a discussion about it on my local "next door" page.
My dad posted DS's birthday card last Monday first class, from 250+ miles away, and it only arrived on Friday (DS's birthday was Wednesday) so definitely post as early as possible.

@megletthesecond He said it is far worse than Christmas. Much more stuff to deliver and their office has 31 members of staff absent!

Then certain things have to be prioritised (e.g. the boris letter that came out a while ago) so everything gets even more behind.

I'm glad we posted DBIL his birthday card nice and early. We're in England and he's on one of the scottish Islands and their post comes over from the mainland on the ferry service which I know has been disrupted.

We have only been getting post twice a week

lifeisgoodmostofthetime · 27/04/2020 16:14

It's taken 4 weeks for 2 separate parcels to arrive. They were sent 2nd class and finally arrived today. I'd recommend sending signed for as they seem to be arriving quicker

My postman told me this morning one area had no post for 3 days as they had no post-people available.
